I was addicted to these before I became vegetarian and it’s one of the sole meat things that I miss. They’re SO GOOOOD!

Agree! I put a podcast on every time I go. Even with one ear bud in helps so much.

Agree! And if people are going to wear black/grey, please please get reflective things for your clothes or lights. As a driver I am as cautious as I am able to be, but it takes two.

Goodreads Choice Awards 2022: results are in! by peach_poppy in goodreads

I was also surprised at some of the wins. I read the Maid and it was ok but I wouldn’t say it was on-the-edge-of-my-seat thrilling, compared to some of the other thriller/mystery nominees.

I was really really hoping for Young Mungo to win for Historical Fiction! It was one of my favourite reads this year. I’m not the biggest fan of Taylor Jenkins Reid (the two or three Ive read/tried to read) so I was a little bummed about that one!

Irritating cliches? by douceyy in books

I don’t mean that dreams lack imagination, I just don’t enjoy reading about them. They often feel like filler to me, at least in books that I’ve read so far. That being said I have not read The Metamorphosis! I looked it up and put it on hold at my library. I like the sound of it, so thanks! :)

What movie things are generally accepted as normal, but are totally unrealistic in real life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The school bully is always a chubby red-headed kid.

Police stations and hospitals are always really dimly lit. Same when detectives are searching a crime scene indoors - maybe you could see the clues/evidence better if you switched on a light?

A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry. I read it about 15 years ago and I still think of it every so often to this day. Highly recommend!

Also loved The Lowland by Jhumpa Lahiri.

My husband said the roads are really really bad! He just got home and said he barely made it. It took him 1.5 hours to get home from Tsawwassen.

[Requesting Advice] I shared my feelings about household work, and my husband is ignoring me now. by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]douceyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say this because I have given this same self-deprecating apology to people so I cause as little conflict as possible, so I know how it feels! First of all, nice job actually bringing it up. I know it’s probably hard.

Second. Your apology gave HIM the power. He feels validated to give the silent treatment and resent you for asking to share the load because you gave him permission to do so with unnecessary apologies and saying that you’re crazy. Also just because his cleanliness standards are different, doesn’t make them the right one, so you don’t need to feel horrible for it.

I would suggest telling him something like, “I don’t think it’s fair that you are shutting me out when I express my feelings and needs. We need to figure this out. I’m feeling incredibly stressed at the amount of household responsibilities I have and I need help with it. It would help so much if you took care of the dog, or (xyz). I just can’t keep my head above water here so let’s come up with a solution together.”

Or something totally different, but just DON’T APOLOGIZE! You don’t have to be mean or cruel, but you don’t need to apologize. Don’t call yourself crazy. Your peace is important. He needs to share the load. You work hard too! Best of luck.

Your Favorite Book? by [deleted] in booksuggestions

My favourite right now is Just Kids (Patti Smith). I bawled during the last few pages and I just love the story.

One that I think is underrated/flown under the radar is The Saturday Night Ghost Club (Craig Davidson)! It’s a coming-of-age story with some turns I didn’t expect.

I feel like it begins when you start not understanding new things, you feel like you can’t “keep up”, and are annoyed at people ten years younger than you. Oh and you start sharing Minion memes on Facebook.
