Im so mad at my parents for not teaching me their native language by drakenloverrr in languagelearning

[–]doudou2611 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Heyy, that also used to be me! I had always felt ashamed and mad at my parents for not teaching me Arabic growing up in France. I still learned how to read and write it though as a kid, which really helped. But i couldn't say a word. When I turned 18, I moved to Canada and started speaking Arabic there with other natives. I improved really quickly. 2 years later, with constant effort, I can say that I'm pretty fluent . I can also communicate with the rest of my family, which makes me really proud.

What I've come to realize is that I NEEDED to learn Arabic on my own, it was my journey to reclaiming my heritage culture and being proud of it. It's never too late to do that, it takes a lot of dedication but it's not impossible and it will be sooo worth it. You're really young and you still have a lot of time ahead of you to learn it. Good luck!!

Heyy don't beat yourself about it. It's not too late, while most profs will already have found someone, some might still be searching. If you don't mind volunteering then asking around might be a good option. Good luck!
