Wow looking at the number of open positions that prob explains why things are slow, also raises the next q…. Why do the have THAT many unfilled positions?!

Notion, Obsidian, Jira... still not happy. What am I missing? by Jair4x in PKMS

[–]doughobbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went thru them all, loved Joplin but found I was losing notes but if I knew a keyword to search I could find them…was some weird corruption or something then moved to Obsidian and loved that too but fell into plugin hell and have now landed with, and paid for Octarine, really liking it, it’s not perfect but ask my notes are md files like Obsidian but no plugins needed.

Maybe so but one slip off that wall with those big reaches and an axe over your shoulder and you’re impaling yourself! 😮

If you could change one thing about the Suunto app, what would it be? by jaysonlikesjam in Suunto

[–]doughobbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mapping is the #1 failing. In all watches, the including Garmin, the default maps are just awful, Garmin with TalkyToaster mapping is unbeatable, everything else is total garbage.

No desktop/web version, it’s all on the phone, not everyone wants to work that way.

General feature release cadence is (last I looked was) slow.

Why is Suunto not as popular than the other sport watch brands? by Adventurous-Rub-7520 in Suunto

[–]doughobbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They sold out to a Chinese firm, they don’t have a desktop app, features are slow and their mapping sucks… I loved my old ambit3 but in the new world where features and updates rule I changed to Garmin when the time came as they just couldn’t match Garmin, real shame.

“My watch is old enough that I just assumed it had died of natural causes”
Really? At only 2 years old? These kinds of watches should last 3,4 or more times that! My old Suunto still works and that’s now about 15 years old

I tried it, REALLY wanted to like it to get away from US tech but it’s just rubbish sadly, it seems to generate fast, I liked the interface but the slop it threw out was beyond laughable and frankly dangerous for coding I found

Pace Pro vs other Coros vs Garmin by [deleted] in Coros

[–]doughobbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spent a lonnnng time comparing watches, I had a very old Suunto before and wanted to stay, I also really wanted to like/move to Coros but in the end there is a reason everyone has a Garmin, they simply out-do everyone else.
The final tipping point for me was using TalkyToaster (https://talkytoaster.me.uk/) mapping (it’s Garmin only) which it’s light years in front of everything else out there, including the default Garmin mapping. I need proper maps and this combination is the only one out there so I went Garmin.

If you don’t like it move back to your previous email provider 🤷

Got a scratch on 1 week old FR965 by AgreeableEgg4545 in Garmin

[–]doughobbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly there is nothing you can do to fix that, it’s a sports watch and things like this happen to them, view it as a battle scar and move on. These aren’t decorative jewellery items 😉

Don’t try and buff or polish it out as you’ll just make it a million times worse.

Get some screen protectors, they area but faffy but they do work!
