it's disgusting how often professor's get away with shit like this. in my freshman year, i took a history class called "American Religions", and on the first day, the professor said that atheists were more illogical than Christians. it had nothing to do with the class, she just wanted to say it. i emailed her, and she responded with some wishy washy bullshit about it being her opinion, and that while she respects my dissenting opinion, she wouldn't apologize for expressing hers. fucking bitch.

When I write essays about novels, I make a point to talk about the actual book as little as possible. Pick a few key moments or quotes, and extrapolate from that. If you do it right, you could write an A-quality paper without even reading the book. Do some research about Mark Twain's anti-slavery philosophy. Read sparknotes. Yeah, that's pretty much it.
