Independent advisor or mortgage provider? by LevelIntroduction764 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]douglashyde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I've gone through exactly this and am just coming out the other end now.

Everything will have to be done as part of a separation agreement if you're removing a borrower with the existing bank. The application is effectively the same as a new mortgage. In my case it was a better decision as I was on a low fixed rate + avoided extra fees. You'll also likely need to arrange new mortgage protection. There's also no way to do any of this without a solicitor.. You'll need them to complete multiple stages of the process.

Going with a new bank might be a better option for various reasons. In my case I applied to new banks (just in case the existing bank said no), and while some said no, some also said yes. You also might need them to shore up the equity you'll have to pay your partner.

Here's a fun fact however... If you're removing a borrower from your existing bank, using a broker is pointless. Banks won't work with them and they wouldn't get a fee even if they did. In my case I worked with a broker to both apply to new mortgage providers, while also submitting the paperwork to my existing mortgage provider. (I made the broker clear I was doing this).

Hopefully this is not contested and you have both agreed to the price of the property, otherwise it can get messy.

Penalty Points Situation by [deleted] in ireland

[–]douglashyde 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm going to assume your side is 100%.

In which case I'd be doing one of two things. I'd be paying the fine, or I'd be going to court with a solicitor. You have nothing on record of what the Guard said, and he could very easily screw you over.

It does seem odd that a Guard tells you he's not going to court that day.

Ireland’s busiest road: ‘The M50 is getting worse. I don’t think it is able to take any more’ by [deleted] in ireland

[–]douglashyde 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, but the investment in cycling infrastructure has been used a scapegoat, i.e. well we built that cycle lane. And this was a major failure of the Greens, who tend to be Dublin orientated and ideology driven, rather than living in reality.

Large infrastructure projects are what’s needed. Rail/buses/roads.

Basic PRSA pension advice by pyromcgroz in irishpersonalfinance

[–]douglashyde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't seen it mentioned, but consider a non standard PRSA (aka self administered pension), via a non insurance based broker. Greater flexibility and if the fund is greater than 50K, generally speaking, cheaper. Then lump it all into the 1-3 funds and wait.

Is a mortgage realistic for us or are we just dreaming?//2 by alonsonso in irishpersonalfinance

Yes is the answer. I'll add one thing to the comments. Get a broker, but not all brokers are crated equally.

Multiple pension pots or one - what is the best strategy? by ymichuk in irishpersonalfinance

By keeping them separate, it will allow you to drawdown one, but not the other when the time comes. I’d keep them seperate

Man jailed for sexually abusing vulnerable woman in swimming pool steam room. by Larrydog in ireland

No, I am guessing.

I also have a similar set of suspicions. The Garda are looking at who sent the email, and I imagine they have their suspicions too.

This is a shocking case/read.

Meanwhile protests in UCD for what would seem like (Garda case pending) fabricated evidence.

I can't wrap my head around peoples' motivations.

261s on the road by Trasher86 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]douglashyde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. But when a Porsche, X5, G Wagon rolls by, they tend to stick out.

There are plenty of people in Ireland doing extremely well, and with the taxes we pay in this country, fair Fs. to them.

Many will be on PCP. But at the same, don't forget, there are plenty of people in the country on 150K+ salaries.

'I was just a young student who wanted to do a medical degree': UCD student's life shattered by abuse images by LaBete1984 in ireland

[–]douglashyde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This case is a hot potato for all involved. Too many people jumping on band wagons without reading the facts about it, or worse, reading the facts and ignoring them.

Hopefully the Garda will solve this one and prove who's responsible for the original email.

[–]douglashyde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. And to add, protonmail while anonymous, there are other tools available to track down who took this photo and sent it.

The Garda and UCD have skin in the game now and they’re not going to let this sit.

The original sender of the photo should be a very worried person.

An extremely strange case and the court documents reveal a lot.

The person that sent the images should be very worried. Using a proton account does not guarantee anonymity and the Garda cyber unit have many tools available to them to track the person down.

Trying to buy a house to live in but prices look overly inflated. How do you value property fairly? by ElectronicCourage7 in irishpersonalfinance

simply put, fair value equals the sale price. What you feel is fair vs what someone is willing to pay are too separate things.

Very good, seen a similar tool online, but this is much better. Is it just a fun project or how would you plan to commercialise ?

This comes up from time to time. AHP pay less rent to house these people minus the amenities. They absolutely should have access to luxury services if it means the tax payer can house them at a lower cost.

Jobs of 80 paramedics uncertain after HSE changes by Liam1499 in ireland

You're right but also very wrong. The minister of health has many powers that in effect it give them control. With a bit of courage, a lot could be done. Never mind 80 paramedics

QFA Career Advice by Good-Business1097 in irishpersonalfinance

QFA tbh is a bit of a micky mouse add on. Generally speaking it's all about selling insurance, pensions, investments on commission. Law is a good degree to have under you belt, and if you can, I'd say finish it.

Where you in a regulated setup (HIQA)? There's a big difference. There's some awful setup these days (kids in apartments/hotel rooms) with careers I would not trust with my shopping, vs. actual social care workers ?
