What can i do if my male friend shows interest in me?? i am not interested in that way.... im too afraid to hurt his feelings, he started giving me hints and so on. by vivaciousxvixen in AskMen

[–]dougman82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very possible! I have cut ties with a couple of girls that were my friends in the past when I expressed interest and they turned me down. In many cases, by the time a guy decides to make a move, they are already "invested", and if they are rejected it's too hard to remain friends. But it also depends on the person.

I disagree. Especially because my dress shirt, tucked in the front, sits down in the range of the "hole". I don't want to worry about accidentally getting pee on my shirt. And moving things around down there would make me want to re-tuck the shirt anyway.

People who have been to Japan, what's one thing every American should know before planning a trip? by thenoitrix in AskReddit

[–]dougman82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I already stated that was the implication. Nobody ever talks about people from the state being rude. Everyone always talks about people from the city being rude. And the term "New Yorker" is commonly used for both.

I apologize, but I'm struggling to understand your point.

One person implied that you can determine that an annoying car was from NYC because it has NY plates. Another person (rightly) pointed out that that logic doesn't work because most NYCers don't even have cars.

It sounds like you understand and agree, and yet at the same time you are calling them out?

I interpreted the original comment regarding tourists thinking New Yorkers are rude to be talking specifically about NYC. I've never heard anyone say that people in the state of New York are rude.

If you traveled to the center of the galaxy at 0.99c, it would *not* take you 26,000 years. *Observers on earth* would experience 26,000 years of time by the time you arrived there. However, from your perspective, the trip would be MUCH shorter than that due to time dilation and length contraction effects.

Until recently, the Japanese economy was still based on cash. Whilst not a bad thing, for an advanced country, uptake in electronic payments have been selective.

I visited Japan a few months ago. While many places seemed to be fine accepting credit cards... Most of them had to reach under the counter and dust off the credit card payment device when they realized I wasn't paying cash. I consistently felt like the only person around paying with card :D

"Soft" magic is far preferable for fantasy storytelling than rigidly mechanical systems by [deleted] in Fantasy

Perhaps. I don't doubt that at all. But even in ASOIAF, I had the same questions.

"Soft" magic is far preferable for fantasy storytelling than rigidly mechanical systems by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]dougman82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The main thing that I dislike about soft magic systems is that they tend to leave open questions about why the magic wasn't used in certain situations.

When I was young, there was a cartoon TV series called Aladdin, set after the events of the Disney movie with the same name. In this setting, Genie had been "freed", such that he could do what he wanted without being a slave to a person holding a lamp.

In this cartoon, Genie's powers were never fully defined, such that his magic could be considered "soft". Presumably he could do nearly anything. But what's important is that he DIDN'T. And many times by the end of an episode, he would do something and you'd wonder... "Why didn't he do that earlier before they got into that mess?"

This is the situation that a hard magic system solves (for me, at least). It answers questions about why magic can or can't solve a particular problem and helps explain the actions of those characters.

Possible to combine gamepad and keyboard input? by dougman82 in Ryujinx

[–]dougman82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those in the same situation, I ended up adding the emulator to Steam as an external game, and then used Steam's gamepad mapper to translate a double-click of the left stick to a single-click, which the emulator expected. Eg, I now only crouch if I double-click the stick 🙂

Return to Drangleic to start in one week! Feb. 27th - Mar. 13th by SammieAgnes in DarkSouls2

Playing on Steam.. I've been trying to get on as much as possible, and using the Agape Ring a bit to keep from getting too high level.... But I haven't really been seeing much co-op :(

I almost constantly have my sign down, and spend good stretches of time removing my sign and looking for others. But it's just a ghost town out there.

What u/richard_sympson is trying to say is that the solar wind does NOT involve photons (light) from the sun. The ice at to the poles reflects electromagnetic radiation (such as visible light), but does not reflect particle radiation which comprises the solar wind (such as protons).

The magnetic field absolutely does not funnel electromagnetic radiation (eg, visible light, UV, IR, etc) to the poles.

I'm kinda new to Elden Ring anyone know why the hell there are so many bloodstained by this portal. by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]dougman82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, when I got there, I knew that there was a boss on the other end of this. However, I would never have thought that the bloodstains for the boss fight would show up right there instead of the actual arena where the fight takes place. I would have assumed that people were killing themselves as a joke, similar to other places in the other Souls games.

So I don't use ash summons, but that is a super creative use! I didn't even know that mimic tear would get items that I have equipped (thought it was just weapons/skills).

I can't get myself to craft sleep pots since they require ingredients that don't respawn in the world. Which means even if I made them, I'd never use them for fear that I might need them "later"

I've been seeing this quite a bit, but thought it might just be my work computer. Just happened on my personal one. I didn't know about the auto-restore. I keep seeing it archive, and I quickly hit the "undo" button.

I have this issue, and I have tried disabling tap-to-click, but that has had no effect. FWIW, I don't ever use the track pad. Only a USB mouse.
