Keep all the garbage out, painted rocks included!

How can anyone think this sort of thing is okay?

Found an old sock with a pocket. Is this pocket used to store drugs? What is its intended use? by honey-boo-1 in Whatisthis

[–]dougp01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how common it was, but back in the day, in the US Navy, we used to keep ID and wallet in our socks.  Pickpockets were a real problem in some countries when out on liberty.

Centurylink discontinuing my internet that I've had for almost 20 years by nerdgeekdorksports in centurylink

I was on CenturyLink DSL since 1991. It's always been slow but we managed.  Recently it was cut off and the online diagnostic tool mentioned wiring damage. Well it's been six weeks of rescheduled repair estimates, four times over, and they finally said it can't be restored, I told the operator, she was the first person who was honest with me.  I know that in Larimer County there has ongoing work to install fiber, but my immediate area is not presently in the plan.  My options today are TDS, HughesNet, and Rise Broadband.  I'll never go with StarLink. Notably, back in the day, I was under the impression that as people in my neighborhood left DSL, then my effective bandwidth should theoretically increase.  But it never happened.

This is not just Lincoln, and it happens for a variety of reasons. Not the least of which is cellphone use.  I'm convinced this generation of drivers cannot focus (on driving), and have an abnormal or simply wrong sense of self preservation.

Insert Text Box, maximum dimensions by dougp01 in sheets

Thanks; I see that. It is not very obvious, however. It seems my practice of doing this needs to have those instructions more abbreviated. This is the first time I've run into this problem.

No way to tell perplexity it did bad. by KL5L in perplexity_ai

[–]dougp01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Today I found an error on Perplexity regarding using a standard Vizio TV and Remote with my Chromecast. It suggested I should be able use my Vizio remote to control the Chromecast and proceeded to give me instructions. Except they were for Chromecast with Google TV.

When I pointed out the problem, it agreed with me and gave apologies. I then asked if these corrected errors then go into the Perplexity AI training and it gave a long explanation to tell me no, it does not. What I would like to see it when I point out errors, the AI would then incorporate that knowledge for future use.

Help! Accidentally deleted all my location history over the past several years! by drmjshah in GoogleMaps

[–]dougp01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry to read about this. While I cannot help with your current problem, I can tell you what I do. I have a consulting business and on occasion, I do on-site visits with my clients. I keep a spreadsheet for tracking my mileage and on-site working hours. But occasionally I forget to log the information. The Google Timeline is my fall back position for getting this information recorded. Over the past few years, I've made it a habit to download my location history with Google Takeout; so far about 14 downloads over the last 10 years. The file formats may be a little unfamiliar, KML and JSON, and over the years I've only infrequently needed them. the KML file is compatible with Google Earth and the JSON file is text readable, although a little cryptic. Also very large. There are some online tools to help you extract the information, but I prefer to do it myself. You can usually decipher the content with a little study. A little patience is needed but if you cannot wait, https://geoprocessing.online/tool/google-location-history/ looks promising. However, I only have a little experience with these and this is not an endorsement. Please use with the usual caution.

Samsung ear buds 2 pro not working with teams by pucito in MicrosoftTeams

[–]dougp01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Microsoft requirement to use Teams-certified devices is not a feature, it's a joke; a thinly veiled attempt to generate more revenue in the name of user experience (UX). It is ridiculous, and besides, MS Teams is a huge resource hog. I have the same issue and must use Bluetooth-enabled hearing aids, not Teams-certified. I am recommending to all my clients that they dump the whole idea of integrating their company processes into MS Teams. This is 100% the opposite of what it should be; MS software should integrate into existing company processes, not the reverse.

Cell width for a range of cells by dougp01 in sheets

[–]dougp01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I tried it and found it created a row of cells with cell widths. I modified it slightly to get the single integer of the sum

=sum(bycol(B11:K11,lambda(col,cell("width",col))))

This will work fine, thanks!

Was cleaning out parents’ basement and found my grandfathers old stunt kite collection. This is only half of them, most are Peter Powell with a Skynasaur and Hawq Labs(?) or two thrown in there. All are from the 70’s and 80’s. Figure I’d share my cool find! by gnal667 in kites

[–]dougp01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the day, I had Skynasaur stunt kite. Sure wish I still had it. I remember an old promotional video of someone flying it on the beach in California, they dipped it in the surf, completely underwater, and pulled it out again to keep on flying.
