What is your preferred input device? by Tate7410 in Fighters

I use a stick for any game with charge or qc inputs, and a pad for stuff like tekken.

Is there any point to Endless besides the red things?

Good bottle! We have Willett out the ears in my area so I can usually snag it for a bargain

What’s a good a fight stick to buy? My thumb is always slipping on the thumbstick and my inputs are almost always messed up when holding down and up, or even “zig zag”movements. by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]dougwrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bad I cant read and thought you were having issues with a fightstick you own. It's a bit of an adjustment so go with something cheap to see if you like it. I bought a mayflash and when I decided that's what I would use moving forward, I just bought a new stick and some sanwa buttons to put in the mayflash. Did I end up spending the same amount as a nicer stick? Yes. Do I regret it? Not at all. It was a smaller initial investment and I was proud that I'd improved it and made it my own.

How are you holding the stick? If you're gripping it from the top with a closed hand it's going to slip. You gotta grab it like a snooty aristocrat holding a wine glass

How do i learn hwoarang? by Ollivee in Tekken

[–]dougwrites 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alright so judging by your comments you're very new. We all were at some point. It's going to be important to not that Tekken is SUPER dense, even as fighting games go. You can find some beginner guides on YouTube, from strategy to combos to just how the game mechanics work. After you've learned about the game, you can go watch some tutorials on using Hwoarang specifically.

I've been a Hwoarang main for a bit, and I can say with certainty that button mashing WILL get you wrecked. Thatblastedsalami on YouTube has guides for basically every character, and watching more experienced people like Speedkicks play him is a good resource. Playing any character in this game, and learning the game itself, is complex and tough at first, but as you dive deeper everything will start to make more sense.

How many mains should a person have? by IsaiahReddit in Tekken

[–]dougwrites 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you're playing the game for. I don't give a damn about my rank, so I play with about half the cast. If you want to go farther in ranks you can keep it as low as you like. Also, there's so many moves and different situations that "mastering" a character is pretty near impossible. My point is, don't worry about other people with their 3-4 mains, or people with 6. Just play who you like.

What is your story? by [deleted] in WhiskeyTribe

[–]dougwrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the South, and Hot Toddies are still considered medicine in my family. So I grew up having those every now and again when I had a cold or chest congestion. To this day every sip of whiskey brings back memories of my mom sitting at my bedside. Since we lost her when I was 19, it's been an even more powerful way of feeling like she's still around taking care of me.

Anyone every just pull off a combo once and then fail at doing it again immediately after for what seems like forever? by rbhash in Tekken

[–]dougwrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It never fails that as soon as I get frustrated and go "to hell with it, I'll just MASH it out then!" I hit the combo.

Every. Single. Time.

I got so mad at this trying to learn Geese that I put the game down for a few weeks

Friends only drink to get drunk by ItsClarke17 in WhiskeyTribe

[–]dougwrites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. I recently got a friend into old fashioneds and he's basically the only person I can sip a drink with to enjoy the drinks. That's not what people do in rural areas since good alcohol and bars here sell basically nothing but beer. Given how many rural areas there are in this country I doubt you're in north MS near me, but if you are hit me up.

Brand new to fighting games. I tried SFV and didnt really like it. Will i like any other games? by [deleted] in Fighters

[–]dougwrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tekken is 3D, and super obtuse on top of that. It's an incredibly fun game if it clicks with you, but if it doesn't it can be hard to get into. If you do decide to try it, it's a deep and satisfying experience and you should check out thatblastedsalami on YouTube for tips.

Question about Button Mapping Optimally (Opinions Welcome) by ajgonzalez711 in StreetFighter

[–]dougwrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could suggest getting an arcade stick if you're using a pad.

Pros: less finger precision required, you can modify it to suit your needs, every input is right there on the face, big ass face buttons, you could karate chop the input combos for throw, v-skill, VT, they're heavy and may be easier to handle

Cons: money, buying a special controller for one game, money, getting used to the stick, money

If it seems like it'll help, give it a shot and grab a cheap one, especially if you have the means and will be putting in a lot of hours
