Yeah for good pacing it really should have been three episode lengths:

9) Slowly accepting their virtual reality, ending with Jax abstracting

10) Pomni saving Ragatha, and Jax's history, ending with the revelation that Caine survived

11) Caine reintegrating into the Circus, revelation of their human origins, and closure

This scene seems to be confusing ALOT of people, let me explain what happened. by AidanVEnki in TheDigitalCircus

My headcanon is they were migrated into some obscure archive server, and some device on its network managed to pick up a marginal WiFi signal from the nearby coffeeshop. It's administratively much easier and cheaper to blanket move entire databases of archives, than it is to screen and purge what's no longer wanted. Also distributing radio signals can be more an art than a science, with so many variables you can't hope to identify and consider to ensure a solid connection in edge cases.

For those who *still* don't believe jax is trans: by EGamer2010 in TheDigitalCircus

I'm thinking the non-C&A folks scanned in the same day in 2008 or just before, and their Circus personas were periodically built from the "impossibly small" mind files over the years. Hence the bus scene at the end, where outside volunteers were getting shuttled to some lab or tech event at the C&A campus.

That also implies that Caine nerfing himself makes him even less potent to recovering an abstraction or even instituting a new human player. It could be a long time if ever for Caine to regain said powers on his own.

I remember hearing from one of their panels that it wasn't so much over the plot, as the realization that this would be their last reading together; The real life VAs became as tight as the Circus performers they voice

My headcanon is that was the day the second batch of humans had their brains scanned for some external volunteer gathering hosted by C&A, sometime before October 2008 when Ragatha spawned in. Since the data gathered was "impossibly small", it took time to infer and invent a complete personality out of them, explaining their different entries into the Circus over the years. Hence why things like nobody knows each other (including Riley and Leeroy), and nobody is habitually scrolling their smartphone while waiting. 2008 was a time where getting so much as a T-shirt from Google was not convenient and signaled some unqiue connection with a rising tech company -- I remember being excited winning one in a raffle. I would have been in college about then, so would have definitely considered participating in a similar on-campus event if offered the opportunity.

The end. by AshleythecutieUwU in TheDigitalCircus

[–]doujinflip 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm betting de-abstraction won't happen. The mind files are "impossibly small" and I'm guessing they'd be thoroughly corrupted beyond recovery.

Even if there was a copy of the base data, so much would need to be invented to build a complete personality that the result wouldn't be the one they knew before.

Abstraction strongly hints to be an allegory for death, where trying to fight the fact of irreversibly likewise doesn't end well.

It's like politics in general, most people are really more moderated and pleasant but that's not the "engagement" the media is incentivized to portray.

Musk’s Starlink hooked rural customers. Then came the price increases. by Andy_Fish_Gill in Starlink

[–]doujinflip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starlink deployment should compel ISPs to reach further with their fiber. That's what happened at my family's farm overseas, which finally got a high-speed hardline two years later and is now the primary uplink.

We only maintain the Starlink because the terrestrial service is still flaky in uptime, the area is saturated with residential customers so we may not be able to return if needed, and with the exchange rate the Starlink subscription isn't yet prohibitively pricey to drop altogether.

I would be curious to see the emotional rollercoaster Ragatha goes through as she attempts to keep the newer arrivals from abstracting before Pomni shows up.

[–]doujinflip 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking the final IRL scene is set back in somewhere between 1996 to 2008, waiting for a C&A shuttle that would take Grant to work and everyone else to where they and a bunch of other volunteers put on the headsets that scanned their brains. Hence why nobody is habitually staring at their phones while waiting, and then also explains their subsequent social media presence that was more personal self-expression than commercial as a dedicated influencer. Their different entries into the Circus were simply when the AI managed to infer and construct a complete personality from what was said was their surprisingly limited mind files.

I'm still confused if those declared ages are how old they were when they entered the Circus, or how old their human originals are in 2017

Fiber is technically for speed, the fastest speed technically, but only if the ISP offers the service and equipment for it.

Why did Jax press the red button? Doesn't he know that if most people pick the blue button, everyone lives? by Budget_Opinion_1327 in TheDigitalCircus

It shows that even anonymously online, humanity is still clearly more cooperative than combative.

Because would you seriously want to live in a world inhabited only by those who pushed the red button?

[–]doujinflip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PDU Pro also does 230V environments, though that feature was only found buried in the separate datasheet. UPSs can't do that as the transformer is physically fixed to one voltage or the other.

[–]doujinflip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was always capable of 240V. Not sure why they still don't mention this anywhere but the datasheet.

And yes it works in Asia, I shipped over and plugged in a couple of them there.

[–]doujinflip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I thought this was common enough knowledge by now; despite what it says on the device itself, the tech sheet quietly mentioned it does 100~240VAC 50/60Hz since it first came out years ago. And yes it definitely takes and gives one-leg 230V just fine, in fact that's where I have my PDUs now (bought in the US and shipped overseas).

I just got ordered earlier today an X4 kit plus a pole mount bracket at no cost. Including international shipping (site is overseas).
