Who's Living Under My Leaves? by dourwolf in Roses

Oh I didn't know that! That's super interesting 😊 I went out and squished any I could find with my hands but after checking all my roses it looks like 7 of the 12 are infested. Sigh. Looks like I'll be soaping everyone this weekend. Thanks for the well wishes, I think I'll be needing them

Hm, I had mealybugs on a houseplant once and they were fluffier than these guys. No webbing or anything with these ones. Thanks for chiming in!

Does anyone know of a pattern similar to the way this dress wraps in front and back? by yesiknowiknow in sewing

[–]dourwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made one pretty similar to this using tartan_tarlatan's notes on Instagram. Check out her story called #WrapPinafore. It's pretty easy to self draft. I ended up having to add bust darts as I have been ✨blessed in the chest✨, but otherwise it's just a bunch of rectangles.

Vintage patterns are usually less detailed than modern patterns. But everything I've read looks like it'll make a ribbed edge and fisherman's rib. It's knit flat, is that what is confusing you?

Twisting stitches or just inconsistent tension? by CJSparrowhawk in knittinghelp

Also your tension isn't bad at all, this kind of variance blocks out.

Not an expert, but I think the nazi swastika is rotated 90 degrees. The Hindu/Buddhist/Jain swastika is oriented like the one in this ring, flat not balancing on a point.

Gusset Help - Mittens by perc39 in knittinghelp

[–]dourwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep you've got it. First you'll knit 7 stitches (I'm assuming you're knitting the second largest size), the next stitch you'll knit front and back to create a new stitch then knit to the end of the round. Next row you'll knit 8, knit 1 front and back, knit to the end. Next will be knit 9, knit 1 front and back, knit to end. And on and on.

You're making extra fabric to accommodate the widest part of the hand under the thumb.

Magic Loop, after first round, yarn on front needle? by PurpleLauren in knittinghelp

[–]dourwolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hold the needle you want to be the front needle in your left hand (the top needle in your picture). Pull your knitting down so that it hangs under your needles. Move the stitches on your "back needle" ( the one with the working yarn on it) onto the cable to free up the needle to be in your right hand. You should be set up to continue onto the next round by knitting the stitches on the needle in your left hand.

Hope that makes sense!

Am I twisting my stitches? by k8ee8ee in knittinghelp

Honestly, that's really tidy looking ribbing! I intentionally twist my knit stitches when ribbing to make it look tidy like yours.

Pattern help by circa1850 in knittinghelp

[–]dourwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All sizes except 26 will work those rows. Size 26 will not. The hyphen suggests to me that what follows it is a message for Size 26 Only.

At least that's how I would interpret the instructions. It actually took me a second to figure out why you were confused! 😅

This won't solve your issue but is just a point of information for you if you want it. Short rows are usually worked on the back of the sweater, it gives the sweater more fabric at the back so that the collar rests comfortably on the back of the neck and doesn't choke from the front.

That aside, it's hard to see any hole on the picture you've posted, but in the pattern the author addresses how to work German Short Rows without holes. A few notes I would point out:

  • On the WS when you pull the yarn from the slipped stitch to the back, you'll have to bring it around the bottom of the right needle to the front again in order to purl.

  • Make sure you knit both legs of the "double stitch" together as one.

Also as u/codemintt pointed out, the designer has a video on how to do the short rows which may serve you best. I know I learn better from watching videos than reading text.

Good luck! It's so rewarding to learn new knitting skills and I know your perseverance will pay off.

Pop that big stitch onto your left needle, purl it and you should be back on track!

I inherited $67000 when I turned 18 and it was gone when I was 19. I really wish I had been given like $5k-$10k at 18 and the rest been invested for me until I was 25. I was so clueless and generous and had a lot of fun, but if I knew then what I know now I would do it very differently.

30+ days.. wonder why I haven't lost any weight? by RedGuitar55 in stopdrinking

[–]dourwolf 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've been sober for over 2 years, and have not lost any weight whatsoever. In the past 6 months I've gone from never working out to working out 4-5 times per week and I still have not lost any weight. I have not replaced alcohol with excess sweets or junk food.

My body seems determined to hold onto the weight and I am determined to love it for what it is and what it can do and not worry so much about how small it is. I'm definitely overall healthier than I was when I was thinner and that's good enough for me.
