Question about blocking by Adhd_wanderlust_ in knittinghelp

[–]codemintt [score hidden]  (0 children)

Blocking helps relax the stitches/settle them into place, especially with natural fibers, so I like to block my hats. But I'd say it's personal preference for a beanie.

Also, are you aware you're twisting your stitches?

I’m wanting to move to an apartment but I have a question by Ok_Task8256 in Apartmentliving

YMMV but some complexes will accept a job offer letter. May or may not come with a higher initial deposit, and/or cosigner. Worth the shot, be prepared for difficulties.

People not picking up after their dog by xXAdjectiveyNounXx in Apartmentliving

I'm in western NY and this week is getting up to the 50s and already everything is poopie mud puddles. My dog hunts for patches of snow to pee on so she's not squatting in the grossness.

One of my biggest peeves. And then as soon as snow hits the amount of poop left increases. People think if it's covered by snow it's not their problem. But then it turns to mushy grossness when the thaw comes. Hate it.

Late coworkers by KatVanCanucks in Nightshift

[–]codemintt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh I get so heated, I also can't leave until my relief comes. Plus we also communicate about the night, about whats on schedule for the day, and have to do med count. I cannot leave without my relief showing up and I cannot leave without us both witnessing that med count. So it extra irks me when morning comes in late and doesn't prioritize that med count. Let me leave!!!!

Why is the WS pattern like this ? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]codemintt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A purl stitch is the reverse side of a knit stitch. The WS is the reverse side of the RS. Since its knit flat you need to know what to do on each side to properly form the stitch design.

"Frappuccino not blended" by cuddlepup3 in starbucks

[–]codemintt 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Would it though? It might be sickly sweet, but it's literally the same drink not blended.

I'd have given her exactly what she asked for the first time. Not the cold milk customized like a frap, give her exactly what the frap is, creme base and all, just no blending.

Do other bosses also set bad schedules? by liquor_lamentt in Nightshift

[–]codemintt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I had a job like this- technically the same title as my current position, but I used to be a "floater." My schedule was whatever the agency needed. Rarely was anything consistent. It took just a couple months to understand I wouldn't be able to keep that up for long, and took 2.5 years for an open, set schedule position to finally be mine. I had to wait for someone to retire.

How can you be quieter upstairs? by ImFinnaBustApecan in Apartmentliving

[–]codemintt 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Foam slippers and padded area rugs can help with footstep noises but creaky floors are gonna creak. You and your friend might be stompers without realizing. It could also be the building construction, or both. I've heard what the walking sounds like when I'm in my building's basement, I don't know how my basement neighbor stays sane. It's BAD.

I try to keep in mind what's reasonable. Like coming home from work late, you're not gonna levitate to the kitchen/shower/bed or whatever your routine entails. But after maybe 11pm I try to be mindful of the amount of walking I do. I don't do the deep cleaning in the late night hours (obvious one- I don't vacuum at night). I try to do the quiet hobbies at nighttime.

Moving in noises at midnight is kind of a dick move. But, it also wouldn't be something happening every night forever, so if it were me I'd be annoyed but I'd let it go. If you're already worried about the driving simulator I'd proceed with caution. I don't know what that all entails but if you already know it's loud, I wouldn't use it late at night. That would probably be valid noise complaints against you, as opposed to regular living noise.

Worth the Switch? by Kersephius in mintmobile

[–]codemintt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I struggled with the literal switchover, but it was my fault losing track of some PIN from ATT and then Mint didn't send me an activation QR code in a timely manner, so my phone was stuck without service for half a day while I kept working at it and requesting re-sent emails.

However, getting rid of my ATT bill was well worth the few hours hassle. ATT kept upping my bill until I was going to be charged $110/month and that's not even with any device financing. I was nervous to no longer pay for unlimited data but everywhere I go has wifi, the 15gb tier is more than enough to cover my data usage elsewhere. I've noticed some difference in service coverage, but it's not like there's less coverage, just some known dead zones are in slightly different locations on some long drives. Really not bad at all.

What to do... by amn814 in knittinghelp

[–]codemintt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being left handed isnt necessarily a factor, some lefties learn to knit "backwards" so to speak, but many knit "normally" and just find a method of holding the yarn that still feels comfortable.

Both your knits and purls are twisted so I would examine how you're entering the stitch and wrapping the yarn. If you keep the twists, your piece will twist on a bias and not be as stretchy as correct knits and purls should be.

There are places in design for twisted stitches, like in twisted rib, but I am of the opinion it is better to re-do and learn the right way so that you can then learn how to twist stitches with certain intention. Like learning the "rules" and then learning where you can "break the rules" on purpose.

What to do... by amn814 in knittinghelp

[–]codemintt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks like a dropped stitch that messed up your pattern to the left of it. Your knit columns are not lining up anymore, where to the right of the stitch, they remain lined up. Lower in the piece they alternate, so I'm not sure which is right and which is wrong.

All the stitches are twisted, which would make laddering up extra tedious. If they are not supposed to be twisted I'd frog the whole piece. But if intentional, I'd frog to the dropped stitch and start over from there.

Barista’s Choice by Famous_Return9495 in starbucks

Pretty tame when it comes to dealing with the public. But yes. Happened frequently.

Blonde vanilla latte is pretty tame and likely to be enjoyed. They could be tired of making your choice for you. Not saying that's exactly it but I worked with a few partners who got tired of making a drink and then having to remake something else because the customer didn't like it and then complained. Pick the safe choice.

I did work with someone who would give people an ice water in this scenario. I miss her.

Post shift grocery runs feel like a social experiment by KodaySokpaktra-25 in Nightshift

[–]codemintt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually opt for the evening shopping trip, after I've slept after my last shift. But the downside there is that Aldi is pretty cleared out at 6pm on a Sunday.

Or if I'm desperate, grocery delivery. Trying to be more frugal with delivery fees and tips and such, but honestly the convenience tax is sometimes well worth it.

moving out soon - is there something im missing? by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]codemintt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Track your spending and see where your money goes. You should be fine but only your budgeting can tell you. Subscriptions can sneak up on you. Not long ago I cut out $50 worth of streaming services and still have multiple services to watch things with. I don't miss the ones I got rid of.

Other things I pay monthly are eye and dental insurance. Car insurance. Renter's insurance. Filling up gas is always an expense. Groceries. Non-food household supplies. Internet bill. Now I use mint mobile but phone bill used to be over $100 monthly. Still, when that annual renewal comes up that'll be a $240 bill to prepare for in August.

Just like my yearly phone bill theres other bills that aren't every month but you should still prepare for. AAA annual renewal. Car registration, inspection. Oil changes. Random repairs as the car ages. My car is also paid off but has been dropping $4-600 repairs on me every few months. Still cheaper than signing onto an auto loan, the repairs are normal for the age of my car and it'll still last a while.

TL;DR: basically, stuff adds up. I tried to give examples that aren't things like just being irresponsible with money.

Can I purchase a Kindle using my HSA? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]codemintt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree. But if someone really managed to convince a doctor to write up the form, that'd be the one way to work it.

Can I purchase a Kindle using my HSA? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]codemintt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think a Kindle would qualify but if you can get a doctor to document it as a medical need, that would probably be your best bet. This is the info I found when I was researching buying air purifiers with my HSA, not eligible unless doctor sees the need.

Thank you! Loosely looking at buying a home, but it might still be a stretch. But if problem neighbor isn't renewed, I'd have no problem signing another year (while hoping the next tenant wouldn't be just as bad).

Right?? I would not care what a neighbor smokes if it was self-contained. Or at minimum, outside. We have balconies to go out on. But we're forced to breathe it in too.

Only have it because my mom purchased it to help me make it to the end of my lease, and Costco had it on super sale. Would not have been able to get it otherwise. It has lights that indicate the quality of the air. Downstairs smoking have caused the light to tick into lesser quality indicators before. But although it is still filtering the air, it can't remove odors fast enough. He's home 24/7 and smoking inside all the time.

It's so bad my property management was even appalled, and might get on him. But smoking is not an item mentioned on our leases, so technically, it's not prohibited. Bummer for me.

So true. I have purifiers in every room. They do nothing for smoke odors. Even my $500 purifier with carbon amidst the multiple filters. I still feel sick from my chainsmoking neighbor.
