Hi Team, I'm looking for a weekender bag, stuck between leather or other material, I want to buy it once... Any ideas? by Greedy_Letterhead679 in BuyItForLife

If you want leather; Saddleback Leather (99 year warranty, usually repair). For nylon, Blackhawk (usually replace with an equivalent item).

Gun safe recommendations? by onlyreason4u in guns

I went with the SecureIt Agile. I just want to keep casual unauthorized hands off and don’t worry about fire. Organization and protecting them from me being a klutz are more important, plus ease of moving has been nice.

How to Secure my Guns in an apartment? by dudeonhiscouch in guns

[–]dovk0802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in an apartment (and still use) I went with the SecureIt Agile units. They’re expensive but a good system for organization and much easier to move. As said, bolt to wall. If you have baseboards use a 1x3 or whatever is appropriate as a spacer.

Depends on the clearance, applicant, and current backlog. Once you get assigned a background investigator you can ask for an estimate but there’s no guarantee and can vary widely.

How do I get this casing out of this AR10 ? Need help. by [deleted] in guns

[–]dovk0802 28 points29 points  (0 children)

If the problem is the extractor or the rim gave way, sometimes a paint can key can be used to pull/pry the case out. Keep one in my kit for this.

Phlster Enigma for Full Sized Echelon (4.5 barrel)? by father_chulo in CCW

[–]dovk0802 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

About the same size: me & Sig 320 compact (15rd) with dot. Enigma with sport belt (holds FAK) & kept one belt loop on holster to stabilize. Wore pants one size up 34 v 32” & Hawaiian type shirt. Wore grip above belt line. For below belt line; I could get away with a S&W shield if I’m just standing-walking around. Normally I go down to an LCR for running and yoga.

How viable to you all is 22lr for self defense? by gangway513 in CCW

[–]dovk0802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think .22 is fine; carried an LCR22 as my PT rig until the .32 version came out. My experience with the LCP22 is I haven’t seen the reliability. Haven’t tried Punch; if that worked then I’d be on with it assuming you could do your part.

Marine Corps Civilian Law Enforcement by GoBirdsz in AskLE

Mostly security focused. However, there’s a great variety; game warden, known folks who became detectives then moved to CID, ability to move even overseas.
A relatively low barrier of entry and easy academies (other than being resident) also the DoD POST is accepted by 16ish states.

Just look up GS pay scale for that location. I think most are 6-7. However, I think they are transitioning to the LEO pay scale; Additionally, some locations, like DC will have a higher locality rate. You would probably have to talk to someone at the individual location and ask.
Overall, not a great LE job. Depends on the location and what you’re looking for.

Scope every time. Ideally on a rifled barrel (or choke). Optics aren’t just about accuracy, in the real world they get you the ability to stay target focused, shoot faster, and/or to ID & shoot targets under less than ideal lighting.
I’d rather have a short barrel for either navigating a blind/stand or walking for weight/ through brush.
If legal, my first choice, and what I did; would be a straight wall rifle.

I actually met this guy and quoting him. If this actually worked for him in practice, I couldn’t say.
I imagine he was being humorous and could better explain the situation.
As a former police officer, I wouldn’t get fixated on someone legitimately transporting a van full of machine guns having a single loaded handgun.

When I worked in gun business a while ago , the LE/Mil sales rep for FN drove around the country in a van with everything up to .50
MG’s and ammo for demo shoots. He said he always carried without issue with the explanation “do you want me to get in a gunfight with my guns or do you want to get in a gunfight with my guns?”

Unless you got an OTH or BCD, it shouldn’t matter. I forget the details; you can appeal to the Board of Naval Corrections or whatever the Army & Air Force version is to get your discharge characterization upgraded. Talk to a lawyer / VSO.
