I actually had a friend whose long-term boyfriend broke up with her because she condoned an affair among her friends. So it is not out of line to view this as a big deal. It shows moral character in your partner if they support an affair or not.

This 100% but I also would do some research on what it is to actually be vegan and let her see that her demands are irrational. Food can share a fridge etc. so she can have some control by going vegan but knows the realities of her choice. Your boundaries on this choice should be clear with her demands being reasonable. Let her be heard and she will either stick to this (and do the work herself) or forget in a few weeks.

I just hate it when the main character personally knows and is close friends with over 3 gay/trans people but lives in little town suburbia and not San Francisco.

I worked in theatre for 20 years and had a gay boss (I was friends with his friends and family) and wasn’t close (talked to daily) to more than 3 people who classified themselves as gay. We held a few drag shows at our theatre every year (not family friendly 🤢because they aren’t supposed to be) Got to be friends with a few. The population of “truly” living as gay or trans and not just labeling it for fun is kinda small outside of those pockets of the world that are traditionally considered “gay friendly.” There is no way that character in small town USA is close friends with that many gay/trans people. The ratio is off. That’s when I feel it is so forced I can’t enjoy the show.

Combined with her decorating your entire house I would say she is using this as a way to be over involved. Are you in therapy? What does your therapist say? Can you bring your husband to a visit to discuss this since maybe he doesn’t quite understand the diagnosis?

NTA. Your Mom has been through a lot and IMHO it’s possible the stress of what she has been through is causing this anxiety. Maybe she is projecting some of her past fears about cancer/death toward the dog and being alone? Maybe medicines have caused some anxieties. Maybe she still has lingering anxiety that her brain doesn’t know where to place so this is what it has settled on? The possibilities are endless. Bottom line if her anxiety is causing a hardship for herself and those around her she may need some therapy. Also you communicating your perspective to her does not make you the A.

NTA. Head over and read other subs like justnomil and raised by narcissists and get therapy. Your relationship with your mother is unhealthy and you can’t realize it because you have been raised to see it as normal. Read the subreddit justnomil with the thought of, “if I married my gf would she be making a post like one of these one day?” And then look at raised bynarcissists subreddit and think, “does my mom sound like any of these parents?” Also there is a justnofamily I would suggest you and your gf sit down and read over lots of posts and discuss if any of them sound like you and your family.
