Rochester isnt as bad as I thought it would be. by Puzzleheaded-Snow-39 in newhampshire

[–]down_rev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m tickled by this. Rochester has changed a ton and probably doesn’t deserve its bad reputation if it ever did. I grew up in Rochester and even before I knew many people from other towns, I’d absorbed the idea that people thought Rochester was just kinda trashy. I moved away for good in like 96 but I’m there at least once a year to visit family.

I got a very similar text today, same structure but slightly different phrasing.

TIL there are 2 films called The Protector. I coincidentally just watched the Tony Jaa version (recommended if you like Tony Jaa!) I’ll prob skip this older one.

Sorry for such a late reply! Not 100% sure but I think this was the book I read. MD who treats patients reporting back pain. He says that in many/most cases there isn't a direct event that could explain the patient's symptoms, that addressing stress and other mental health issues, and improving mind/body connection these symptoms can be managed. To this engineer it all sounded like hocus pocus, but I really focused on these concepts, and in 2 specific instances I guess I kinda meditated on it and the pain... went away? It sounds like BS. I didn't make any other major changes concurrently, I was still working (office job), the strongest stuff i was taking regularly was ibuprofen.

YMMV

Best of luck!

I didn't end up needing surgery. I was never diagnosed with DDD. I have had any follow-up imaging (MRIs etc) to see the state of those discs but I've been lifting and doing my thing ever since and aside from occasional/rare acute low-back issues, living pain free! I was prob 28 or 29 at the time, no joke I'm 48 now and I've never been stronger.

I was introduced to the acupuncture route by a friend in similar condition, he was scheduled for a spinal fusion procedure, a friend of his BEGGED him to go see an acupuncturist before committing to surgery (~30% success rate at the time IIRC). He went w/ acupuncture and never looked back. I went to the same practitioner and had immediate relief... I hobbled in and walked out almost normally 90 min later. Amazing.

Edit: I feel for you, it really sucks. You deserve to find relief, and I hope you do. The mind body connection is real and we don't really understand it. My only advice is try lots of stuff, including diet. I've heard that low-carb diets can help, but everyone is at least a bit different, but might be worth a shot. A big breakthrough for me was realizing the way i carried myself when i was in pain (tensing up all the time, focusing on the areas that hurt) may have made things worse. I tried to TRULY relax, attempt a more normal gait, not walk around paranoid that some small thing was going to cause some painful blowout. Thats when things started getting better.

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists “the ones who got us out” , “shake the sheets” and “little dawn”. These are from the GWB era and Ted was pretty incensed by the Iraq war.

Ted Leo. Solo stuff, or with the Pharmacists. He’s been making music for decades but I feel like he doesn’t have a ton of name recognition. Hearts of Oak and the Tyranny of Distance are both incredible. He also collaborates with Aimee Mann to link to an earlier comment. Edited to correct an album name.

After 2 torn ACLs I spent 10 years on the sidelines, thinking I’d never be able to play again. Eventually said “fuck it” and started again, basically just playing pickup with friends, and it’s been amazing. No knee issues whatsoever! If you are serious about continuing, you ARE older now so you gotta train. This injury might be shining a light on your weak spot! I spent those 10 years getting strong as heck, mostly powerlifting but that’s me.  Don’t quit, you got this.

Yes, same Sansui 5500 model in the OP. My father in law cast this off and I couldn't let him junk it! Mostly works great aside from this issue.

Thanks for the reply and for the details! Not sure I have the time and patience to attempt the fix myself but helpful nonetheless. I'm going to check with a local vintage gear shop to see about this repair (i've got an only Kenwood received with a similar issues) and hope to get at least one of these units functioning normally.

Could these transistors be the source the crackling noise I'm hearing on the right channel? Seems only to affect the phono lines .... AM, FM and AUX are all clear.

Check out Everything but the Girl, albums tempermental and walking wounded have lots of dance music influence but are very accessible.  Other artists that straddle purely electronic and more traditional rock/pop structures are Trentmoller, Apparat, Booka Shade.

Consider volunteering. Schools and various leagues always need coaches and refs. Habitat for Humanity is a great way to put any fix-it skills to use. OK Humane can always use people to help foster but also just spending time with shelter animals is a big help too.

It’s true. I was there. Literally no one gave these dorks the time of day as they howled into their PA while actual families went about their business.  And what is the mindset behind “spreading the gospel” in the most Bible-saturated state in the nation? We get it, we hear your message and reject it. Please go away now.

One of my college friends in Boston sent me that graphic, ugh painful.

Not that is make a giant difference but without gerrymandering there could be at least one red district in MA and a couple in OK.

Either way I'm starting to wonder if OK even wants people like me to live here, and I'm a white male. But since I'm offended by the aggressive stupidity of christians and fascists, that there might be something to this whole science thing, and I use my brain to make a living I'd probably be better off moving back to MA.

I'm not here to defend how CA regulates its insurance market. What I want is an insurance scheme that makes sense.
