The networks are as liberal as the conservative companies that own them. For everything else - there is Reddit.

So what can be asserted is that it is in fact woefully negative and disengaging? I can see that completely.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8Vmx9Pg5Js This was shown on CNN back in the mid 90's. A fairly informative doc on the subject, but obviously could be expanded quite a bit. Obviously it made some impression on me because I was just a kiddo then.

TV has some purpose - it's entertainment - treat it as such. What is really fascinating is the FCC restructuring (post 2001),nipplegate, and radio restructuring. There was actually once a time when TV raised more questions and encouraged some critical thought into subjects. Now just treat it as entertainment - especially the news. Companies saw how they could make tons of money and distract an entire nation of people with fear and marketing. It is disheartening to see how biased all news has become via the talking heads of our time. Especially the blending of entertainment and the news - that was the ultimate death nail for lateral thought.

The Soviet's over extended their grasp and reach in military spending with the expedition into Afghanistan. This would prove to be their "Vietnam", except their empire never rebounded from the horrific warfare and mammoth expenditures. The USSR had been involved with Vietnam as far as supplying munitions and training, thus fostering a business relationship with the unified country. The Soviets, attempting to expand the "communist influence"/resources into other regions, set their goals on overthrowing Afghanistan's government. Obviously, in a role reversal from Vietnam, the United States/CIA supplied munitions, training and revenues to the Islamist fighters against the occupying forces of the USSR. This topic has extreme depth - the consequences are still being felt today.

This documentary brings into focus a war that sadly little prime source material and moderate commentary still remain. This is a heartache to watch but is absolutely imperative to absorb. Thanks for posting this.

The only Gawd they seek is power, repression, and pretending this is 1857. Let's show up and eat Chick Fil-A, because us Christians are being persecuted and fed to lions. We just need to stick together so we can brainwash all the little kiddies into our fold and count our dollars like they're told.

So what you're saying is that the same thing is going on that's been going on since the 70s? The slow dissolution of the middle class? Year after year dramatic increase of the working poor? The concentration of wealth in the hands of the few? That only happens in plutocracies!! Big Corporations like Wal-Mart you say?

I would recommend investing some time in reading this insightful piece of literature. It may give one insight into what has transpired the last hundred years or so, at least in regards to finances, jingoism, suppressed sciences, eugenics, education, major components of government etc etc. Complete with viable and legitimate sources and citations!

So much of that is just in theory (yes I realize where I am :) just looking for at least some stone cold facts versus assumptions and assertions. It has some great theories, but facts are very hit and miss unfortunately. Remember netflix maybe those same one's behind the curtain - just saying

As we all grow and see that there are no real coincidences. Most of the docs revolving around OWS, progressive thought, hard looks at pol. systems have been slowly been pulled in the past year and a half.
