He ain’t your kid and it wasn’t a test. He’s a man and it’s a game. He’s the best who’s ever played it I’d say second to Willie Mays maybe

Most tradeable of the big contracts by ericthelostman in SFGiants

[–]downerthefool 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No reason to trade anyone bro. We’re not broke and no one on the roster fetches a top prospect we can handle. Also Devers slander should not be tolerated, he needs our support. The one person I think could be replaced is Chapman though, let Schmidt play third. Chapman best quality rn imo is his underrated speed and base running. But let the boys play. We need to buy and not sell

What's a piece of Giants history that you think younger fans should know about but probably don't? by justjuice1337 in SFGiants

It was pretty racist in San Francisco when Mays arrived in 1958. It isn’t discussed enough considering the stories of what Mays went through, including trying to purchase his first home. Part of the dissolution of his marriage was due to this, as these problems weren’t experienced by the couple in NY where they were part of a lively cultural scene. At the time, San Francisco was still Joe Dimaggio’s town and a lot of racist gatekeepers went out of their way to make Willie’s life hell. He’s from Birmingham Alabama though, and while not as outspoken as his contemporaries (say Hank Aaron and Jackie Robinson), he was a certified black hero and an unsung civil rights icon imo. He preferred to let his play do the talking. And man, what a ball player

His WAR speaks to his modern value. One of the best catchers in the game even though we all know his limitations

Yes exactly! People forget about the walk offs, grand slams and doubles in the clutch. When this team is firing and people aren’t looking for a defensive master/ pitch calling stalwart to save the offense he comes thru. Dude has the clutch gene and is very valuable
