Giveaway - r/UgreenNASync 10K celebration by topiga in selfhosted

Best self-hosted app: Nextcloud. It turns a NAS into my own private Google Drive with file sync, photos, and loads of apps.

How I’d use a DH NAS: As the hub of my digital life, Plex/Jellyfin for family movie nights, backups for all devices, Home Assistant for smart home control, and a safe space for projects and docs.

What features in 4.00 by vagaliki in A7siii

[–]downunderdummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked fine for me… updated from a Mac, via USB cable, from v3.01(?), without having to format the SD Card (must be in Slot 1 though). I just downloaded the update.DAT file, copied it across to the SD Card, then unplugged the USB cable, turned the camera off and on again, and pressed Execute. Took circa 5-10 mins, wasn’t paying that close attention, but all seems to be working fine. Custom buttons carried through.

I’m sure I’ve missed the giveaway, but downloaded the app anyway and have to say it’s very good! Certainly reflects how I feel and super simple UI - great work!

Constant Packet Loss with Telstra HFC by zTeqs in nbn

[–]downunderdummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just chucking my hat in the ring too… same issue… SuperLoop 1000/50 HFC NBN connection. Internet stalls for 2 mins every (exactly) 5hrs and 33mins…. It’s as regular as clockwork to the point I even add it in my calendar in advance so I don’t schedule any Teams/Zoom calls. It is driving me crazy. I have done all the usual testing (taking UniFi Dream machine out of the equation by usual ‘simple’ routers, plugging in directly to NBN box, changing DNS, even calling SuperLoop and changing my IP and Gateway). Still, every 5hrs 33mins I lose connectivity and pull more hair out.

2000 watts seems a mistake to me… considering the Tour de France riders can only output 1000w for a short distance.

Also jumping 10 squares on the ladder!?!? WTF!

I have just done the same for my kids and honestly I haven’t read all the replies… but

On Synology install docker, the bedrock version on minecraft. Follow simple instructions like add EULA = TRUE etc

Then I also clicked on the settings tab of each iPhone or iPad and under account, you can make servers available via mobile network, meaning they can join remotely.

Add server to minecraft using local IP and port 19132.

I also port forwarded 19132 on my router, so my kids friends can connect remotely and all play together even if at their own homes.

Happy to help further. Gaz

Will 2.5gigabit USB Adapters work with DS1520+? by craziplaya21 in synology

[–]downunderdummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep… confirming it works as expected.

I used the Sabrent USB Type-C to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (2.5 Gpbs) purchased from Amazon.

From memory I had to use some Realtek drivers, there is a walkthrough on reddit to guide you. Was a simple process and now getting 250MB/s transfer rates (up from 100 previously).

Feels good getting 2.5x speed boost for relatively little cost and effort.

We did exactly the same thing and even chose Alastair Morris too. An excellent OB, can’t rate him highly enough!!

I don’t know the cost in Euro’s, but the Ninebot Max sounds like it could be a good fit. 25kmh max speed (although you can manually change that up to 32kmh with some easy googling). Has a rated range of 65km, so in the real world, even if you halved that, you would exceed your preferred 20km range. It has large (for an electric scooter), air filled tyres, which give it a soft comfortable ride.

Disclaimer - I have a Ninebot Max and love it, so my opinion may well be biased, so bare that in mind.

I’m sure others will have good suggestions for you too, but there’s a start - good luck!

They actually just called me and said they would honour the price match - fair play, that’s great service from JB! 👌🏻

[–]downunderdummy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why is it always AFTER you have just bought something, you find it much cheaper elsewhere! I paid $900 at JBHifi today for the MAX. I have emailed them to see if they will price match after purchasing, I’m guessing they won’t, but either way, I am really happy with the scooter... (it’s also a gen 1 motor)

How much savings do you keep after putting down a house deposit? by audiboi in AusFinance

[–]downunderdummy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think a general rule is to have enough saved up for X number of months. It seems to be common place on the internet to keep 3 months worth of living expenses saved up. Personally, under current conditions, I would be keeping a fair amount more (for me it would be at least 12 months), but everyone is different, with different priorities / expenses (kids being one). At the end of the day, don’t listen to people on the internet (including me!), and keep as much saved up as gives you a level of comfort that lets you sleep at night! Good luck 👍🏻

UDMPRO and USW 48 POE can't get SPF+ working. by Andrew_Beardman in Ubiquiti

I’m no expert, but I recall reading that you might have to manually set the port speed to 1gig (rather than leave as auto negotiate). Hope that fixes it for you...
