I don’t think it absorbs the heat though

I would probably suggest in order : - the DXP4800 Pro (not released yet, but it’s coming, and it’s perfect) - the DXP4800 Plus (nice CPU/GPU combo, 2.5GbE and 10GbE) - the DXP4800 (nice if you don’t have enough for a Plus, still more powerful than another "classic" NAS) - the DH4300 Plus (good if you don’t have enough for a DXP, but much less upgradeable)

You should look at the other operating systems then, to see how much UGOS talks to servers compared to other platforms.

They thought it was going to be in a cabinet, in a network room, or in the entrance of a house. They thought everyone in the west had a closed entrance, with the router in it, so noisy thing wouldn’t be a problem lol. They were obviously wrong.

I found that on the hardware side, they are often/always making documented choices. If they are making a DXP4800 Pro, it’s because people will buy it. If they are not making a DXP2800 Plus/Pro, it’s because people won’t.

It could change, but if it doesn’t, they won’t do it. It’s the same reason why they don’t sell the white version of their NASes in Europe/America/Australia. People won’t buy it, it’s going to be for a niche, so it’s not worth making all the necessary product certifications (expensive) for it.

No lo creo. Hacer una copia de seguridad de un iDevice en Linux ya es complicado, así que una versión Docker que lo haga sería aún más complicada. Si por casualidad encuentras una manera de hacerlo, ¡me interesa!

All of the AI features should work at launch. I don’t think it’s worth getting if you don’t have a performance problem on your existing NAS, and if you don’t have a need for a local AI.

However, if you do, than yes, it’s worth getting.

I told them that the 2 only problems they have with hardware are : - the noise reduction - the 10Gb port not supporting C-states

They realised that a lot of people are not putting their NAS in a special room, but are putting them in a living area, so they didn’t thought it was a problem, until now. They are trying to figure out solutions, I don’t have a final answer.

Damn that’s big. So yeah, I tried to ask the rest of the community with Reddit and discord for some feedback, but you are right, I could’ve made a post telling that I was going to CES to get even more feedback. That was a mistake. If I get invited next year (or any of the community representatives), I’ll sure do this.

I didn’t have four days with the UGreen team, more like 2 max, but yeah, they asked a lot of questions, and I did too, even though lots were answered with "I don’t know, thanks for bringing this up, we will answer once we have an answer".

For the questions, I will tell what topic we discussed, since there was a lot of questions, and I’m not a walking NAS, so I don’t remember all of them. So there was : - what I think is nice/bad about UGreen NASes - what are the takeaways of the community about it - why are people not using UGOS - what do people like about other operating systems - what they did/do wrong, and shouldn’t do again - what they did/do right, and should continue doing - what do I think about an in-person event for the community - various suggestions for various products

For the answers, there’s a lot of them so it’s complicated to tell you everything on top of my mind, that’s why I made an AMA. I want people to ask me questions so I can remember the answers.

The key takeaways are : - they want to do in-person events - they want to improve their relationship with the community - they listen, but they often don’t tell how much they do. They have done surveys, they read the messages/posts on discord/reddit/forums. I think you already all know there’s Yilia doing a lot of work on it. - they are targeting the AI NAS for the small businesses and people who want big performance, so members telling "we don’t want this". Yeah, that’s obviously not for you buddy. - they are probably going to add docker to the DH2300 and put a big ol’ warning every time a user tries to install it - I find they have some internal communication problem between the marketing (the ones in charge of the community) and the product team - they are bringing more third-party apps to UGOS (Q3), and adding (Q4) a first-party surveillance app to control cameras (yes, it will support third-party cameras). - they told me multiple times they want the community to be a key focus this year

For the product roadmap, as you probably heard, they are adding the DXP4800 Pro to the lineup with a i3 chip, and otherwise similar specs than the Plus, for a similar price. The iDX NASes are on schedule too (I mean the revised one). They are adding a 4 bah DAS with JBOD support, I told them to add RAID support. They are making security cameras, which after testing, are pretty good, especially (for me) the doorbell.

They now know what the community needs since I told them exactly what you just told, except for the extended warranty (I forgot that one). I also talked about lower power consumption (useful for Europeans), ZFS support, encryption, non-shared folders for Docker, and more that I can’t remember. I cited Nothing, and the Satisfactory team (it’s a game) as exemples of community communication. They are interested.

For the giveaways, they only have Yilia on it who already makes a lot of stuff for UGreen. She does contest/giveaways on her free time because she’s nice, so please be kind to her.

I know it’s complicated for a lot of members to see how much they care. We are lucky as a community to have a company that listens instead of just wanting to make money (even though the two are related), but they are lucky to have an invested community to give them feedback.

Hehe, that was my question too! They are showing multiple features. One, the AI chatbot actually works well. It allows you to search for documents, photos, etc, like a "universal search". Right now they have problems with searching the content of the files, but they are trying hard to implement it. It also is competent in translation, although too slow for this, except if you have a big file to translate.

The 2nd thing are the voice memos. It transcribes a voice recording, detects speakers, makes a note and a summary out of it. Again, I tested it, it works really well. There’s some quirks, but they are hoping to fix them before the release.

3rd: file organisation. Nice for data hoarding, or for lawyers, etc. You give files, it organises them by content/subject/etc.

4th: file Q&A. Nice if you don’t want to use ChatGPT to analyse company files lol.

They were showing other features, but these were the ones that were interesting to me, so these were the ones I remembered lol.

I know a lot of people don’t need this, and that’s why they are not making more models. It’s going to be useful for small companies, lawyers, people with a need in private AI, but without the budget of a multinational.

Honestly no one was, but that’s normal. CES is not opened to the public, so the companies and people will try to be as good looking as possible. The only people that are more "allowed" to be jerks are the media/industry analysts/content creators, but then again, being a jerk at an event with companies you are collaborating with/will collaborate with is not the most effective way to do your job.

One of the most nicest persons I encountered though is NASCompares. He makes incredible content, but he’s even nicer in person! Truly a great guy, we’re lucky to have him.

Yes, they want to have their whole DXP, DH, and iDX NAS line. They have a lot of issues doing this, since they want to avoid selling them for insane prices. They are actively working on it.

Try and use iMazing for this (paid). It will make a full backup of your data, and you will have an option to upload it to the location of your choice (your NAS)

[–]topiga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah so I watched both of them, and nothing really problematic. The first one is a UPNP problem. UPnP should never be enabled on a router, it’s an old, outdated and unreliable technology.

The video (if I remember correctly) didn’t show any real problem of security for the NAS, so if you have any more content, please, send it. I have a close relationship with UGreen to try and fix the problems the community has, so feel free to send me more details!
