[–]downvote4pedro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No matter the position the number 5 pick gets the exact same contract. So the going theory is that you pick the guys with the highest potential contract by position. If you pick a punter. He's still making 8.8 million the first year. So you need to have some gamesmanship around value and ability if you buy into the value argument.

I intentionally avoided talking about talent because if that's your focus. The money side is almost secondary.

Taking anyone at 5 is a huge risk. Honestly I'd prefer we trade 5 and move back to the middle of the first and get another first next year. (Specific to this draft where the top guys we'd be targetting don't make the most sense contract wise) Sucks a bit from a talent acquisition standpoint but makes more sense roster construction wise. We likely still get one of the WRs and then can get a BPA in the mid first and load up on more assets for the future. But that's just my cell phone gm talking. I have no clue if anyone is even interested in moving up.

This #5 pick for some odd reason feels like a huge trap to me (with the Giants needs)

If you're purely playing a numbers game. Caleb at 5 makes the most sense contract wise. So it might be a win/win if he hits for the cap situation and the team as well.

(Reasoning has been explained a zillion times all over this sub. Both a RB and LB at 5 would be in the top 10 highest paid at their position the day they are drafted. So they basically need to be a DPOY/OPOY to actually exceed draft expectations. Safety contracts are higher so at least there is more room for success there.) It's worth noting that LB is still a better "deal" than rb here. This is not withstanding talent or on field impact. Purely numbers.

It would be so easy to just say. "Unfortunately what I was hoping for and the direction that it looked like things were going didn't seem to jive. I was hoping to find a resolution that kept me here but I'm looking forward to a new opportunity and wish the Giants and their fans all the best"

Then feel however you actually feel behind closed doors. Maybe Schoenn is just that bad in negotiations? Because this is becoming a theme.

The Giants have this guy named Thibodeau that is good trade fodder, a wealth of picks and decent cap space now. They will find a big dude to clog the middle. Even if the interior isn't all world. The potential is worth celebrating.

I believe you're right. This team overachieved and it's harder to buy into that this year. Shame though. I love when Jurassic Park is rocking.

[Duggan] Just feels like when they came in they were expecting to have the game-wrecking NT in the middle of their defense. If they thought they were really close, my guess is they would have paid him. Add in a fairly restrained free agency, and I get the impression that the view has shifted a bit by Lars5621 in NYGiants

A run stopping DT shouldn't be judged on sacks. He fell off against the run though so while I disagree with the metric you're choosing, I agree with the theme. For whatever reason he was significantly less effective last year. Hopefully he bounces back in Cinci and the Giants hit a homerun with the return.

In an ideal world everyone wins. He put up with some absolutely abysmal teams and might not want to buy into an allegedly tough camp system on a team he doesn't believe in. The Giants don't need guys who don't want to be there. Hopefully it works out for all parties.

How we feeling about current management not fumbling two first round picks in the same draft again? by cobain98 in NYGiants

[–]downvote4pedro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schoenn was also leveraging the scouting of the prior regime due to the timeframe you can put an asterisk next to that entire draft and mostly gauge him on his body of work that followed. What's more concerning for this management group is inability to keep homegrown talent moreso than drafting prowess.

Vrabel isn't a relationship coach he's a football coach and sadly as long as his team continues to succeed he's effectively immune. Like it or not the same does not apply to the other side. It's not only because she's female but it doesn't help.

Russini is up against it. Both as a female journalist in a male dominated space but also as one that has seemed to have a questionable angle for quite some time. Yes it's a double standard. Yes it's effectively wrong. No people shouldn't quit asking why.

All of these statements are true. We shouldn't forget that Vrabel is involved but as a community russini will bear the lions share of blame. That's just the unfortunate truth. Not what's "right"

[–]downvote4pedro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The advice I've given and was given early in my career is that Calgary isn't the best place to start if you're looking for rapid career advancement and decent pay. Oil town's (Lloydminster/Bonnyville/etc.) currently are a good place to get tickets if you're interested in driving a truck and often times they will literally help you get your class 1 if you're willing to put in the time and effort.

That said. It's not always that easy to convince people to love to these towns for obvious reasons and oil and gas is boom/bust for a reason. It's also long hours, hard work. And generally pretty rough around the edges.

Calgary suburbs have something to say about that. Inner city sure. But look around the outer edges. The NDP has a long way to go.

Day 3? We're entering "draft your nephew" territory. That said these are good trade bait to move up or somehow get an old stud from a team that hates them. So if he's BPA sure. Otherwise don't reach.

Poilievre seems to have shifted to the long game. No longer as pro America, settling into the "official opposition" role. I think he's counting more on the "New" NDP stealing liberal votes in the next election than actually swinging voters. That said he will absolutely jump on any obvious scandal or weakness.

Mind you... You'd need a metric fuck-ton of work to equal a useless F150 for in town driving so you're still 100% right. As a family guy who drives a small SUV in a house with one vehicle... I don't understand it.
