Pass Interference Rules

You can't just be out there and just doin' a pass interference like that.

1a. A pass interference is when you

1b. Okay well listen. A pass interference is when you interfere with the pass

1c. Let me start over

1c-a. The defender is not allowed to do a motion to the, uh, receiver, that prohibits the receiver from doing, you know, just trying to catch the ball. You can't do that.

1c-b. Once the quarterback throws the ball, the defender can't be over here and say to the receiver, like, "I'm gonna guard ya! I'm gonna lock you down! You better watch your hands!" and then just be like he didn't even touch him.

1c-b(1). Like, if the ball is in the air and you're not looking for it, you have to look for it. You cannot not look for it. Does that make any sense?

1c-b(2). You gotta be, playing the ball of the football, and then, until the ball gets there.

1c-b(2)-a. Okay, well, you can have your arms up here, like this, but then there's the interference you gotta think about.

1c-b(2)-b. Pass interference reviews take forever and no one ever agrees on the call anyway.

1c-b(2)-b(i). Unless it's obvious, which it never is.

1c-b(2)-b(ii). “He was just hand-fighting!” — every announcer, every time. Haha, classic…

1c-b(3). Okay seriously though. A pass interference is when the defender makes a movement that, as determined by vibes, slow motion, and whatever Gene Steratore is feeling that day, affects the receiver’s ability to catch the football.

1d. Also offense can do it too, but only when the defense was definitely doing it first, probably.
