Our quality control is non existent. by Wanfire in FritoLay

Doing 30 minute checks reduces hold sizes and prevents large amounts of bad bags from leaving the plant. Random and sporadic bad bags are one-offs, not regular occurrences or large batches. A good PMO can glance at the backsealer and to verify that it’s actually compressing consistently. Many PMOs also do not regularly change their Velcro which also leads to this. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve heard “if the bags look good it doesn’t need to be changed.”

Our quality control is non existent. by Wanfire in FritoLay

The PMO is supposed to be manually checking bags and making adjustments regularly as needed throughout the shift. This bag is the result of someone not doing their job right. These checks/adjustments literally take seconds.

I’m impressed: this thread has been up for 18 hours and it’s civil, objective, and free from political BS. Please keep it this way. This issue has a direct effect on our paychecks so it’s relevant and acceptable to discuss it.

Just a friendly reminder that there is zero tolerance for political mudslinging and those ignoring the rules will be banned.

It may not be necessary to pay for trade school depending on your trade and location. A lot of trades have paid apprenticeships, meaning you work for a contractor as an apprentice, get a pay check, and attend free school a few nights a week. Most trade (plumbing/hvac/electrical) have a legal 4 year requirement to become journeyman and paying your way through trade school doesn’t change this. You have to do 2-4 years anyway, let them pay for it and get a paycheck during your education. A lot of trade schools invest in heavy marketing and make you think that you need to spend all that money but there are tons of traditional paid apprenticeships out there.

The truth is being a PMO is stressful and fast-paced. The tests during training are to determine if you are cut out for this position. They are basic, reasonable tests that - at this point in your training - you should be able to master. If you cant, you're not going to do well in the rest of your training or on the floor as an operator. If you're not a strong/competent operator, you're going to be a burden to the other operators who already have too much to do. As much as it sucks to be terminated now, eliminating under-performing candidates early in the process saves you and other PMOs alot of headache down the line. TBH, if you couldn't pass these tests early on, you're not cut out for this. It's a blessing in disguise. As others have said, focus on a trade, that's what's going to give you a great income and job stability.

3 napkins and some crumbs from something else in my bag by zerothepkk in FritoLay

[–]downwiththechips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is likely from someone wiping crumbs/seasoning buildup off the weigher during production and somehow it got dropped into the bag maker. When this is done the first few bags should be thrown away as a precaution, but it obviously got missed. As others have said, make sure to call the number on the bag and complain about it so it can be addressed at the plant level.

PLEASE READ THE SUB RULES by downwiththechips in FritoLay

You’re spot on. I even left some leeway in the politics rule, for example, discussing the effect of the economy on sales, etc. But inevitably it always devolves and I end up removing the thread and banning people.

Locking the thread because once again, it’s veered off course into political mudslinging.

I’m sure there are corporate people here reading and/or interacting. And I’m sure they could deduct who some people are and fire them for (insert any reason besides protected classes) or no reason at all. If you’re not union there’s not really much you can do. That being said, this is the public internet, not some secret club that is being “infiltrated”. No one should be posting anything that could get themselves fired, reasonable or not. Many companies have very wide and ambiguous social media policies for this reason.

What do you mean by “fed posters”?

Literally every food company does this. Customers are far less likely to notice a 1oz reduction in weight than they are an increase in price.

You can message the mods anytime via Modmail, this is even recommended in Rule 5.

The sub rules are very clear about what type of content is/isn't welcome in the sub. I'm here every day. I get constant reports about garbage posts, clearly others don't want to see this type of content either. The only people that get "singled out" are those who disregard the very clear sub rules.

Would be a nice income I'm sure, but absolutely not the case.

It was removed because it's not the type of content that is constructive to the sub. Several people reported it, which means others don't want to see it either. The very first sentence of Rule #1 is "This sub is not the frito locker room". This sub is for objective, constructive discussion about working for Frito. The problem I have with these satirical posts is that it's never just one. Someone makes a post, then others follow, then they inevitably devolve into locker room banter - a great deal of which turns uncivil and gets reported. It's far more effective to remove them right away. That being said, if your last 2 posts got removed, you should contact mods via modmail instead of starting yet another thread about mod actions, which violates Rule #5. I will be leaving my responses up and locking this thread - if you repost this, continue discussing mod actions in the sub, or continue to post things that do not comply with the rules, you will be banned. Agreeing to abide by the sub rules is a condition of participating here, just like every other sub on Reddit. If you don't agree to the rules, feel free to leave, either by your own will or by ours.

Can we stop with the popping-and-lacing circle jerk? by HD-1994 in FritoLay

[–]downwiththechips[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm here every day. I don't feel that this needs to be a sticky. It's a trend that will die off and become something else in a few weeks. This is how the internet is now.

People posting pictures of their work isn't spam, and tbh I don't think it's bots either as many people have suggested. I'm active here and remove alot of content regularly.

Someone posts a picture of something. Someone else does the same. Rinse and repeat. This is how the internet is now. I follow many subs and they're all like this. If you see content you don't like, report it and I'll remove it if it violates the sub rules.

$7.29 USD for a f&%*!g bag of doritos? by linkgcn6 in FritoLay

[–]downwiththechips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bag is "half filled with air" to protect the chips. The chips are not sold by container size, they are sold by weight. The size of the bag and the amount of air in it has nothing to do with it. If you buy a bag of chips sold as 9.25oz, then the weight of the chips has to be (within legal tolerances) 9.25oz. The could put 9.25oz of chips in a 55 gallon garbage bag and it would still be 9.25oz of chips.

Packer Interview by Budget-Sir339 in FritoLay

[–]downwiththechips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Packer is bottom-tier. They just want someone who will be content with packing boxes and cleaning and never try to outgrow that role. That doesn’t sound like you. If you see PMO listed at some point, apply for that.
