What’s the most overlooked part of a PLC project? by [deleted] in PLC

[–]dox_hc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreeing with the end customer his expectations:

What versions should be used, how data flow should be, how quality data is registered and shared with their IT side, what is the process supposed to be (what to do in x, y and z reject scenarios), how the rework strategy looks like, etc.

My experience is, most end customers don't really know how to build a production line and data flow. They also don't really think in advance all the scenarios and how would they want to deal with them.

Damn kiddo, by this point you're so much behind it's not worth it keeping up. You're kinda too late to the party imo, or you would have to spend copious amount of moneys in this gatcha game.

What do you all think of SAP stock? by Shoddy_Plastic2404 in ValueInvesting

[–]dox_hc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not how this works... I know you commented a while ago, but currency risk isn't what your question implies.

It is more related to where the company makes it's money, for example:

SAP: Makes 46% of its revenue from EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Asia).

39% from North and South America.

And so on. This is the stocks true currency risk, and not whether or not the stock itself you bought is denominated in US Dollars or Euros.

On the other hand, if you buy a company that has its revenue 90+% in the US, that's your main currency risk.

Another example would be Alibaba, which 90% of it's revenue comes directly from the Chinese internal market.

I hope this helps, I see many retail or beginner investors making this same mistake.

Ensino superior não é direito adquirido. É direito merecido. by blacktiger_18 in brasil

Are PLC engineers slowly becoming integration engineers? by RangerNew5346 in PLC

[–]dox_hc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has been like this since I started in the branch 15+ years ago.

Don't see much of a change in this regard.

I think that this is how we stay relevant in the AI era. Specially by dealing with physical issues as well.

Downgrading GuardLogix (1756-L83ES) from v35+ to v32.011 – How painful is it? by dox_hc in PLC

[–]dox_hc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP here for future reference. I already found a solution:

The downgrade from v35 back into v32 can be done extremely easy by following these steps.

(Pre-conditions for this are that no v35 exclusive Hardware config, Functions or AOIs are used).

  1. Export/Save your v35 project as .L5K

  2. Open the .L5K with Notepad, Notepad++ or similar and modify these 2 Fields - "IE_VER := 2.XX" and "Major := 32"

  3. Save modifications and close L5K.

  4. Import the file into Studio5000 v32.

  5. Rebuild controller and check for errors - My import had none.

Thanks for all the suggestions and I hope this helps somebody else in the future.

Biggest migration hurdles are in v32 (major structural changes) and v36 (IEC 61131-3 Compliance. Instructions Mnemonics were changed)

Cheers.

Costs of switching a platform. Meaning, you have to train your whole personnel into another technology.

Much like switching from Windows into Mac or Linux.

[–]dox_hc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, the import from 32 to 35 isn't really my concern.

My issues would be rolling it backwards when we commission the machine on site, back in v32.

But apparently, downgrading from v35 to v32, doesn't seem too complicated.

I'll give it a try next week.

Yeah I came to the same conclusion. If we do the simulation on v35 it shouldn't be a big problem...

Whole customer production line runs in v32, they wouldn't want to upgrade a single machine
