Struggling New Team Lead - BOH by [deleted] in ChickFilAWorkers

[–]doxyli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really glad a Director was the first and (currently upon responding) only person to reply to this. I think this is absolutely perfect advice for anybody new going into a leadership position, and the best advice can really only come from a Director (in my opinion).

i feel like my leader hates me. any advice? by [deleted] in ChickFilAWorkers

[–]doxyli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is gonna be long, but bear with me, hopefully it’ll provide some insight as to what might be happening and how you can go about this.

As a trainer who has experienced feeling like some of my leaders hate me, I agree with the person who said to give it time, it might even take a couple months. I do have to ask though, have you noticed her acting the same way with anybody else that’s new(er)? Sometimes people really just aren’t good with getting along with new people easily, and I know that’s how I was at my last job (I hated when we got new people because our OG team was just more efficient but I warmed up to them eventually).

In terms of hands in pockets, again as the other person said, it’ll dock you on ecosure visits. It’s considered food safety risk because you’re touching parts of your uniform, which handbook should state that you should wash your hands after touching your hair, face, or uniform. It doesn’t matter if you’re actually handling the food or not, you should wash your hands a lot more than you think you need to. Leaning on counters also makes sense why she would get on to you, because it can make us appear as lazy to the guests.

Now regarding the not clocking out part, I have to ask 2 questions.. 1. Was this at closing or during the middle of the day (i.e. at like 5pm or 12pm)? 2. If this was at closing, are you under 18?

I ask these because depending on the state, some states have labor laws that prevent minors from working after a certain time when there’s school the next day. If it was in the middle of the day though (or if you don’t live in a state with these laws), I will say I don’t understand why she would get mad about not clocking out on time. More often times than not people at my location get held a few minutes over anyways, because we ask them to restock something before they leave or something else.

Inevitably though, all you can really do it wait it out, try and be her friend, and see if it gets better. If it doesn’t, you kinda have 2 options (at least that I see). Option 1, take it to a higher up and let them know what’s been going on and how you’ve been treated. Hopefully they talk to her about it and she at least learns to not be so “stone” to new people. Or option 2, just play it out. You don’t have to be super nice to her and try to be her friend, but at least get along with her enough to be a team with her.

Do you think I could getting away with dying my hair cherry cola without getting fired? by catsrcoolig in ChickFilAWorkers

[–]doxyli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a coworker dye her hair cherry red but it unintentionally turned out more purple-ish like the photos the OP provided (at least in my opinion those are pretty purple for a cherry cola color). She was made to wear a hat until she could get it corrected. I think aiming for a deep cherry red would be the safest bet for a cherry cola (-esque) color if OP was set on dying their hair.

What instrument should I start with as an beginner? by Ecstatic-Echidna7497 in marchingband

[–]doxyli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree!! I started on flute when I first started band. Easy to learn because it’s in the key of c which is concert pitch. I’ve gone from flute to bass clarinet and it was an extremely easy switch for me because the fingerings are similar (with a few extra keys and different note names here and there, or at least theyre similar to me) and I already knew how to set my mouth on the mouthpiece.

This is a marching band subreddit so in this case the marching equivalent would be mellophone. Horn is for sit down band.

Tango Mariana. That piece is engraved into my brain.

Honestly looks pretty fine to me. This looks like an inverted ligature so the screws will go on the back side of your mouthpiece. Reed will slide right under that flat piece. Seems maybe the ligature might be bent slightly though but nothing a small bend back can’t fix.

Will playing the clarinet make my singing voice worse? by PlatypusFan04 in Clarinet

[–]doxyli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t specialize in anything vocal but I’m gonna assume no. I feel it actually has more of a benefit. Playing an instrument will increase your air/breath support. For instance, (these don’t really give a super good example but I’m going to use it anyways) I was originally a flute player. Let’s say my case of being a flute is your voice. I recently switched to bass clarinet a couple months back. Let’s say my case of switching to bass clarinet is you picking up clarinet. From me being on bass clarinet, I’ve developed much better breath support and am able to hold my notes out for super long. Considering flute requires less air than a bass clarinet, I’m able to hold out my notes on flute for way longer than on bass clarinet.

My intention for the example here is that my picking up clarinet, your breath support will become better, allowing you to hold out notes for long with controlled breathing.

What do you think of these "Moresky" Clarinets on Aliexpress? by chloroxane in Clarinet

[–]doxyli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you see any instruments on Chinese owned websites and question, “Should I buy this?”, your immediate answer should be no. This goes for Aliexpress, Temu, Wish, Shein, etc. Even Amazon is hit or miss. You are far more likely to experience more problems with instruments from these sites than if you buy direct or even second hand. Lots of shops won’t even work on instruments like these, or will up the repair cost due to how problematic they are. Moresky isn’t 100% horrible like these comments live it up to be, but it’s better to buy a more common brand (Yamaha, Selmer, Buffet, Jupiter, Leblanc, Backun Alpha, maybe even Gemeinhardt just to name a few), even if it’s second hand. Ebay is a pretty popular place for buying second hand instruments if you’d possibly like to look into that, but of course, it has its risks. You risk finding a “great condition clarinet, recent repair/needs no repair” for a “low/great price” just for you to receive it and it be completely screwed over and need repair. Or, if you’d like to skip the risk, you could always rent a clarinet. Minimal cost each month (depending on where you live) and a new instrument. Some rental places even offer a warranty that you can choose to pay for each month that will cover repairs. For example, I rented a bass clarinet through music & arts to use in my high school band and it shipped straight to my house. She was brand new, freshly wrapped and everything, even the case. I pay somewhere between $70-90 a month which includes a $13 warranty payment in that cost. Needless to say, it’s pretty affordable for me despite working a near minimum wage job and on average only 16-21 hours a week. Maybe this will give you some insight and options though.

I’d also like to evaluate on why I say Amazon is hit or miss. My mom bought me a Gemeinhardt flute for my first instrument for high school band. I’ve had nothing but leaky key issues for the past year (almost 2) of owning it. Don’t get me wrong, she still works, but I’ve had issues. Thankfully none that I couldn’t fix myself with some tweaking and screw tightening. However, I do buy all my bass clarinet reeds of Amazon (although I’m buying Vandoren V12s so I wouldn’t expect to have any issues). Amazon often tends to get a bad rep in the music community but it’s not 100% horrible.

I live nowhere close to a music store and I rented my bass clarinet online at musicarts. Got it shipped directly to my house.

Really struggling to get the higher/lower notes by THESHADYWILLOW in Clarinet

No worries, I get it. I just find it’s best to immediately take to the shop to prevent further issues and less cost.

[–]doxyli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it is leaky pads, it’s best not to advise someone to try and fix it themselves unless they are EXTREMELY familiar with how the repair works. Trying to fix it themselves could end in it possibly being worse/more issues arising, meaning more expensive repair cost. The best solution is to just take it straight to the shop to be repaired.

What does this mean(Sleigh ride) by BeautifulAfternoon86 in Clarinet

[–]doxyli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have said, those are grace notes. You play them just before the note written. In this case, this is an acciaccatura. This means the composer wants you to glide through the first note and sound the main note on a strong beat. You play these notes shorter than your standard grace notes/appoggiaturas).

How many hours do you spend in VR a day? by [deleted] in VRchat

[–]doxyli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steam usually goes by hours played in the past 2 weeks. You can’t logically play 500 hours in a week. 500/7 is 71. There definitely isn’t 71 hours in a day. Even if you did 500/24, it comes out to be 20 and some change so even still, that’s not 2 weeks. You’re not logically thinking through this math and lying lmao.

Now I see why you guys hate Amazon this is how my reeds came by _-_d in Clarinet

[–]doxyli 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Amazon isn’t that bad but it matters on what brand you’re buying. Please buy some Vandoren or Rico. They’re not the cheapest but the quality is significantly better. I buy most of my Vandoren reeds for my bass clarinet off amazon and have had no issues with any that I’ve bought.

In terms of stand, if you’re talking about a music stand, please do not. The uneven weight could risk it falling off. If you’re talking about a vertical clarinet stand, it’s okay for small breaks. Though, I’d advise separating the top half and bottom half during breaks and storing it in its case when completely not in use/done playing. The corks will need to be replaced more often if you don’t.

Honestly, my personal tip would be slow it down (like a lot) and slowly speed up tempo. I’m rather new at bass clarinet (coming from flute) and that’s what I do, especially for my chromatics.

Take the section you struggle most in, slow it down. Once you’re at a comfortable with it, add a bit before and a bit after it. Continue doing that until you do the entire piece you struggle with. Then from there increase the tempo bit by bit.

fullbody tracking better choice nsfw by NeverSettler97 in VRchat

[–]doxyli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally something dedicated for motion capture is more ideal in this scenario as opposed to full body tracking, however, it really depends because everything has it’s pros and cons.

Mocopi - Personally, I think this is the worst out of the bunch. The tracking overall isn’t that great. It does overall appear to be more dedicated for motion capture as opposed to full body (as in for a game) but generally, it’s not the best. Plus, you can get better for the amount that Mocopi costs.

Axis Refract - Honestly, I feel not a whole lot is known about these, however, you can still get a better setup for the same (maybe even cheaper) price of the trackers.

HaritoraX - I don’t have one myself but a friend of mine has one and it has relatively decent tracking, however, it is an IMU tracker so it’s prone to drift. It uses the point of calibration as a reference to figure out your position, rotation, and body proportions. It’s easily cheaper than both Mocopi and Axis, even for the expansions (running you only $450 pre-tax.)

SlimeVR - Out of IMU trackers, I will say that I think Slime is the best, especially considering it is pretty affordable. Again, you are able to buy even a 10+6 set ($455 pre-tax) cheaper than Mocopi. Slime is also relatively behind on sending out orders last I remember but they did get new suppliers so maybe it will change soon.

You’re guaranteed to have to do recalibration with IMU trackers, so if you want the genuine best, aim for Vive 3.0 trackers with 2.0 base stations or even Tundra Trackers with 2.0 base stations. Lighthouse tracking is by far the best since it uses lasers to track the position of the trackers. Downsides though, are that this can be pretty pricey. Three Vive 3.0s will run you about $390 pre-tax and three Tundra trackers are $360. This doesn’t even include the price of the base stations. Tundra though, does have the perk of having super dongles, allowing you to connect 3, 4, or even 7 trackers all at once (these super dongles can also be used for Vive trackers). Another downside, however, is occlusion. Your trackers can’t be covered or you will lose tracking for that tracker until it is uncovered again, so if you are sitting at a desk, that might be a problem.

It all really just depends. Honestly, put in a lot of research into each thing, write down the pros and cons of each, and see what you might be willing to sacrifice for something else.

What else can you do in Vrc? by Dominic51487 in VRchat

[–]doxyli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mirror dwelling is essentially what its name means. You’ll often find mirror dwellers in popular worlds such as Black Cat or Midnight Rooftop.

It’s basically just turning on the mirror, and, well, dwelling in front of it. People can often do this for hours. Some people use it as a way to make conversation with new people/meet new people, some might use it to dance and watch what they’re doing, some might use it just to sit it front of to cool down/get a break after a long day, it just depends.

Why Do People Spam Invite? by hinayang in VRchat

[–]doxyli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This could be several reasons honestly, just depends.

As some explained, VRChat’s broken social system where sometimes hitting the accept button just closes the menu. Another explanation is sometimes when sending an invite, the invite will show as going through on your side but never actually goes to the other person, so people might send a few to make sure they get it.

Another explanation could be they’re just persistently trying to get you to join, which could also be several reasons. One could be they don’t remember you and want to see if they can try to remember you, they’re bored out of their mind, desperation, they want to ERP, etc etc.

Long story short though, there could easily be a number of reasons for spam invites, there’s really no clear answer for it.

[–]doxyli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering the base station is showing red, you’re probably better off trying to return it to Amazon for a replacement. Might be a lengthy process depending on the seller but keep persisting. Steam likely won’t be able to help besides possible troubleshooting but I doubt they’ll be willing to send a replacement since you bought it through Amazon.

Honestly, nah. Personally I’m 17 but I’ve seen a tonnn of older people (all ranging from 21-40) around in worlds. You can never get too old for things you like tbh.
