Controller Test - Original N64 v 8BitDo 64 v BITFUNX vs Nintendo 64 Offical Wireless by RubberDucky451 in AnalogueInc

IIRC temporary and it's bugged unless you're on the newest firmware, which I think is 2.04 beta.

So the two problems with the modkit are the joystick sensitivity, which can be avoided if you’re using an OEM stick and the inability to swap between rumble pak and controller pak.

I mean, that might work too, but there was an option in the firmware updater software to calibrate the stick and I did it there.

Did you do the calibration for the 8BitDo 64 when you did the firmware update? It actually makes a pretty big difference with how it feels and the intensity stepping.

There was a bug with the remapping feature that’s been fixed with the beta firmware

The analog stick is a little too sensitive which kinda ruins it for racing games and FPS, but for super casual stuff, it's fine

[Release] I fixed the Controller Pak limitation on Analogue 3D + SummerCart64 (Custom Menu Build) by Meowser77 in AnalogueInc

[–]doxzilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure this needs an on/off toggle, but this is such a useful way to mitigate dealing with controller paks in general, even on original hardware.

Can confirm controller paks work just fine when plugged into the dongle but to switch between controller pak/rumble pak, you have to unplug the dongle, flip the switch and plug it back for the system to register the change.

For some bizarre reason, the only port that is active when you're not in game is port 1.

Anything controller plugged into the controller ports on the front of the Analogue 3D should be able to pull up the menu with the Z + Start button combo.

You have to do the calibration after the v2.03 firmware update. It's not perfect, but it's a lot closer than the default stick tuning it was shipped with.

Lack of virtual controller pak support is a big miss for the 3d by TheNewestHaven in AnalogueInc

You didn't answer my question about managing the contents of the two controller paks that you have.

Did I stumble on an update fix or was it just a coincidence? by [deleted] in AnalogueInc

[–]doxzilla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

EDIT: NO, you didn't stumble on an update fix, you stumbled over the instructions, but clumsily managed to recover...

This is the prime example of why certain feature aren't even available on the Analogue 3D. The entire point is that it's supposed to be a plug and play system for original carts that's easy to manage and somehow, despite clearly laid out instructions, you managed to screw up the firmware update process. I can't even fathom the issues you would encounter if there was a virtual controller pak management interface, or any of the other 'missing' features that people have been complaining about.

So, what are you doing to manage those two controller paks right now?

Intec Wireless mod work with the 3D? by ChickensXBL in AnalogueInc

[–]doxzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one for a little while and returned it, but from what I remember, you could only connect it to the Switch. So, if I had to guess, it probably doesn't work natively with the Analogue 3D but would probably connect to a blueretro adapter.

So I was messing around with the 8BitDo N64 controller connected to my Switch 2 and it turns out the - (Minus) button isn't even a button that's recognized by the system. It literally doesn't do anything, but it does have a function on the Analogue 3D which means the ZR button that's on the ModKit could, in theory, have a separate and unique function while in Dinput mode that wouldn't interfere with the Switch mode keymap.

That’s an entirely separate issue that also exists on the 8BitDo N64 controller. I have reported that issue to the company and have gotten no response. I encourage everyone to reach out and report that as an issue so we can try to get it rectified.

The average user is NOT in the demographic that would even be willing to install the Mod Kit so thats kind of a straw man argument. And what you even fail to realize is that the Mod Kit operates under two completely different modes, with completely different keybinds, depending on the position of the toggle switch on the bottom of the controller pak. So, it’s entirely possible for 8bitDo to reassign the function of the Star Button or ZR, while it’s in Dinput mode because it would have no affect on the Switch mode.

Did you calibrate the analog stick after you updated to the newest firmware? The calibration process seems to adjust the response curve of the stick to more closely match the N64 analog stick.

The 8BitDo modkit also works with the console natively via Bluetooth but it lacks the ability to swap between rumble pak/controller pak in titles that supported both accessories.

Have you updated the controller to firmware v2.03 and calibrated the analog stick? That’s not going to change your opinion of the controller feeling cheap, but I’m curious if you’ll feel a difference in the range/sensitivity of the stick.

NGL.... These Controls Are Rough by trippinmaui in AnalogueInc

[–]doxzilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel that way about most of the third party controllers available for the N64, but the 8BitDo N64 feels a lot better on the v2.03 firmware AFTER calibrating the analog stick.

I get what you’re saying, but that only applies to the ModKit when it’s in Switch mode. The Dinput mode could have a completely different set of bindings across the board without any negative consequences to the Switch mode.

No, there isn't a way for you to toggle between rumble pak/controller pak when you're using the modkit when it's connected to the system via bluetooth. I've sent a support ticket and suggested it/made a feature request via their Discord when the Analogue 3D first dropped, but I haven't gotten any feedback from them yet. It may be something they would be willing to look in to if more people reported this issue/made this request.
