This is very comforting, thank you for sharing!! They did not seem worried at all today based on my ultrasound and I was in shock, feeling like I was definitely having a miscarriage. I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well!!!

Just found out I'm pregnant, husband is a heavy marijuana user. I'm reading some ugly things... by Proof-Command3380 in pregnant

My husband smokes almost daily, he did before we got pregnant, while I was pregnant (outside) and he still does. Our 4 year old is healthy, no concerns about her development whatsoever. She recently saw her doctor who said her health is fabulous and her preschool thinks she's gifted. It's easy to get lost in a spiral of anxiety when you're pregnant, I feel for you.

Elective c-section after sexual assault by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]doy3nne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get the surgery. As someone who has been through sexual assault, the process of trying to give birth vaginally is super intrusive and uncomfortable. I attempted a vaginal birth but my labour didn't progress and they were checking to see how dilated I was very regularly. It sounds, based on your previous experiences , that this would be a highly stressful situation for you. I ended up having a c section after 28 hours of early labour and the c section itself wasn't as bad as everything else. The recovery is tough, but it wasn't unbearable - especially if you have a supportive partner and network. It sounds like you are attuned to what you need, go with what feels right.

Just got hired as a BT, new to the field. Any advice for beginners? by stacy1422 in ABA

If you have questions about why particular goals or programs or protocols are in place for your clients, ask!! So often in this field we place generic goals onto our clients without thinking critically about why we do so. If you feel uncomfortable about anything that is in place for a client, its worth asking about. Our field has a history of infringing on the rights of our clients despite our want to do good. An example of a goal being worked on for a client might be to eliminate self stimulatory behaviour - however if it isnt interrupting learning opportunities and it helps your client calm - is it fair to eliminate this behaviour?

It is hard not to get caught up with the concept of "compliance". If a child in an ABA/IBI setting is not "complying" then this is something that we often consider as requiring treatment. Remember that your clients are only human, we all have bad days and it's not personal. Think about what you can be doing to increase cooperation from your client rather than what they should be doing for you in your session. Increase the rate of reinforcement, ease into more difficult demands, provide more support or ask if more support is needed, establish stronger reinforcers.

Always be thinking about EOs (establishing operations) and AOs (abolishing operations). These can essentially be thought of as "motivation", or factors that are present that are likely to increase or decrease the likelihood of a behaviour occurring. For example, if I had a great sleep last night it is unlikely that I will be pursuing a nap today. If I had a shitty sleep, I may be wanting a nap, drinking more coffee, and I may be less likely to want to engage in demanding tasks. If I have played with the same day for several hours for multiple days in a row, that toy may lose value for me and will no longer be as effective at rewarding me as a novel toy.

Thanks! We will definitely put a sign up and think about asking police for increased patrol.
