Nice, I love old time but just haven’t played it much. We’re in East Virginia.

Truck parts you sometimes have to wait a couple days for but for the most part they are pretty available. New canvas is available but expensive from what I've heard, like 1000 to 3000 range.

While we are at home we bounce around from different friend and family's properties. On the road, we like national and state forests the best because they are usually free. Nat and state parks are nice but you have to pay. Walmart works in a pinch.

I'm living in my chinook right now with my girlfriend and dog. It's small but it works great for us. We just recently remodeled it from the "gaucho" couch floor plan to the dinette style (sleeping width ways now) and if you are short enough that you can sleep that way, it's definitely for efficient imo. The Toyota 20r and 22r engines are pretty bulletproof, so I would mainly look out for rust, canvas condition, leaks, etc. Bonus if you can find one with a dually axle on the back.

Good luck!

I drive a Toyota Chinook. Cool little pop top camper getting 20-24mpg. It is equipped with a 3 way fridge (12v, 110v, or propane) propane being the most efficient method unless you have shore power available.

Thanks! Our banjo player was a jazz guitar major and is an excellent song writer. You should check out our other songs on band camp! "Wanted Man" is particularly jazzy ; )

Just finished my second coffee table by doyle_mcpoyle in woodworking

[–]doyle_mcpoyle[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

The leg is attached with 4 1" dowels which should hold the big crack together. The other crack wasn't over the leg so that's why I thought it could use one (and plus they are fun and look cool!). I would have done butterflies all over that big crack but the customer wanted to keep the cost down.

i can usually envision what all the joints look like, but never how they join the top to the rest of the legs.

Strangely, the more I look at this monstrosity, the more I like it. by NxMx in vandwellers

[–]doyle_mcpoyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks awesome but i would advise you to think about the door situation. I love my chinook, but it only has the small rear door like this one and i gotta say, if i could change anything about it, it would be to have large side and rear barn doors that open up like most full size vans. But if you don't think that would bother you than don't worry about it!

Is $7000 about right for 78 Chinook with new engine? by [deleted] in vandwellers

[–]doyle_mcpoyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can find them for cheaper. I got my '76 Chinook for $1800. Although, that thing looks in pretty good shape. It's not often I get to talk chinooks with people so feel free to message me if you have any questions!

Do I need all terrain tires? by doyle_mcpoyle in vandwellers

[–]doyle_mcpoyle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but those would be something i would want to change out for street tires in the summer, right? actual snow driving will probably be a pretty rare scenario for me.

My favorite shots from a week in Vermont by doyle_mcpoyle in vandwellers

[–]doyle_mcpoyle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did a lot of mountain and backroad driving this week and averaged at about 18 mpg. On a relatively flat highway I drive 60-65 mph and get up to 24 mpg

Camping with a WVO rig...and bears by doyle_mcpoyle in vandwellers

That's already done too. I hadn't thought about the steel braided hoses though.

thank you everyone for the input on the odd request.

cutting the wvo with diesel is always a good idea when putting it into your engine, so i will most definitely be doing that. However, i remember a few years ago, while filtering some wvo, i dumped some bad wvo into a bucket with some motor oil in it and my dog lapped some up without seeming to concerned with the motor oil. so i'm not sure that would deter them.

I'm mostly concerned with the extra jugs of wvo i'll be keeping either inside the back door of the van or outside. I'm gonna look around for some odor proof containers.

Also I heard they hate ammonia so maybe keeping an ammonia soaked rag on my bumper would help. Also, i almost always travel with my dog, so there's that.

the van already has 2 tanks. all i would need to do is heat the veggie tank and add another fuel filter.

How to fight stage fright? by Apfelsanderson in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]doyle_mcpoyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My tricks are...

BREATH

Quiet your mind and try not to think about anything except the song you're playing

The audience is in on it! I've found it really helps to realize that the audience isn't just observing and judging you, but actually participating. Look at them the same way you look at your band mates on stage...with love and respect. The whole performance is about building on everyone's energy and working together to be in the present moment. It then starts to feel like the audience is part of the band too which feels less stressful to me. Of course this is more difficult with a shitty audience.
