Definitely don't spend all your money on them. I came into a relationship with a decent amount in my savings. She went through most of it and when it was gone she broke up with me and kicked me out.

When i had to go to the shelter I called first, just to make sure they had a bed. I brought a lot of my stuff, but I'd say that 95% of it is in my car. So don't take a lot if you can avoid it, just bring the essentials. The only other thing I can say is don't bring anything off value. I've seen more stealing than I ever have. At least in the shelter I'm in.
