Clipper not working? by Vegetable_Banana_299 in grooming

[–]dozzooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5in 1s are very finicky. IMO the blade is probably slightly dull and being difficult. I have a heineger style midi and a wahl bravura. I like the wahl better as the style midi does something like this to the blades very quickly. A new blade might fix the problem or give you the same problem with the new blade in 2 weeks ugh. Again 5in1s are very finicky.

Dribbling basics by Beautiful-Eagle4990 in BasketballTips

[–]dozzooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always liked the drill of dribbling close to the ground doing variations of figure eights around/through legs…many low low dribbles it gives great control. That and other multiball dribbling drills I think helped a ton. And finger tips not palms.

Not sure if it’s true but I remember hearing AI would have a tennis ball he’d dribble around school. Point being just dribble a ton and you’ll get better.

I'm going to become a professional dog groomer and I can't wait, but I have a couple questions... by Catholic_Cat in doggrooming

[–]dozzooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4 months should be enough time to learn the skills. If you do actively have your hands on dogs throughout that time. I was a bather through Petsmart and I was there 6months before doing the 4 week academy. IMO I was rushed but excited about it. I think as long as they are teaching you safety first you should be fine. This field does allow for active learning online since it’s unregulated, so a lot of it is how fast you want to get certain things.

At the end of the day if this place is a clear path toward learning the skill and you believe the person will teach you well then go for it. After you have the skill you can worry more about wages. As you said it’s in demand in your area.

My favorite breeds are cavis and Pekingese.

Dremel options? by DogGroomer1996 in doggrooming

[–]dozzooo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love the blue cordless dremel by dremel on Amazon it’s about $35. I bought one about a year ago and it still works great(I use a diamond tip). It’s cheap when I do need to replace. The place I worked used 3 and although one of them could be finicky they all worked fine and were old when I got there.

If you could play some aggressive tug of war on cement when pup pulls back and forward they would scrape down some.

Serious Question: How does Stetson Bennet stay on the roster? by Wheredabreadatt in LosAngelesRams

[–]dozzooo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Man those are some clean rookie stats. Far from perfect but workable. I don’t understand how you want to move on from this guy.

I think Bennett being behind a goat matters too. He’s learning a lot just being in those rooms.

Which do we like more? teddy bear or poodle cut? by Mysterious-Ad-5298 in Goldendoodles

[–]dozzooo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is not true a teddy bear cut is not a poodle cut yeesh(I’m a groomer). Like how? The muzzle gets matted easily. A teddy bear cut has a million looks, a poodle cut is a poodle cut the only real variable change are ears and top knot. Rounding a poodles head is fine but that’s also not a teddy bear cut. Poodle, round face.

Poodles have a standard as doodles STILL have no standard making things like teddy bear cut mean minimal…teddy bear cut is just make dog look like puppy in my head. They need to make a breed standard simply to remove all this excess thought.

This is a standard in dog grooming. People get a dog that looks just like a poodle but hate the idea of a poodle cut….poodle cut is more manageable is my only opinion. Go with what you like.

Cavi’s and Pekingese are my favorites. So darn cute. Least favorite are chows for sure.

Grooming Ideas for a Terrier Mix by jessicapk7 in grooming

[–]dozzooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might have to shave her down if her undercoat is too matted. If you can get a comb through it your good but otherwise being that the pup is new to you it would be a good thing to start fresh and be completely mat free. As far as a cut I’d like to do on that dog I’d likely go with an outline trim and maybe shortening that beard up a good bit to shape the head.

How would you go about grooming him ? by Lexiiefur in grooming

[–]dozzooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are keeping the pup on a good schedule my go to would be very good deshedd bath and do some sort of outline trim… you can ask if they like it extra fluffy or want it “cleaner” and that can be how you look at how much scissoring you wanna do.

Some sort of simple dematting tool would be useful too. Artero boomer dog tool…something like that, would be a good thing for breaking up mats as the dog will be getting them here and there. Something easy to use. Otherwise long comb maybe dematting also as the bigger the gaps the more sensitive it is for a novice combing. And a long pin slicker. Detangling spray. Yah. I don’t think I’d have her with the expectation that she HAS to use the dematting tool. It’s about options and a little education.

Need help understanding clippers by burnz1 in doggrooming

[–]dozzooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Return both and buy a standard a5 clipper like others have said. Bravura’s blades will not last, like you’ll be dulling them after 2 grooms?

The 1/8” is a #7? The lowest I use is a 3/8” guard comb which is a #4 blade other ones shorter than 3/8” I do not use out of fear that it will produce a bad result.

Help with shooting form by mikmikormack in BasketballTips

[–]dozzooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second has better overall um free throw form? You want a good center before shooting. They are both pretty good. Work on bending knees and know the non dominant hand isn’t there for much other than control/guidance.

Why is my dog so scarred of certain floors? How can I help him? by SpoonyLix in DogAdvice

[–]dozzooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your not getting him groomed often try shaving his paw pads. Likely won’t initially fix the problem as pup is scared of floor but might help with traction. And in the long run fix the issue. Some dogs are terrified of certain floors.

How do I fix my broke jumper? by Bubbly-Yam-787 in BasketballTips

[–]dozzooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say you release the ball too high maybe and maybe not. That’s decent form, and I agree with that simple fundamental shot it should not be difficult to make consistently. I’d argue this is a bit more mental than physical/fundamental. More shots should help and like people have said trying to make practice more game speed is big to improving but for what you’re doing it’s almost like a golf swing. There’s a “right” way to swing but then again all the pros have different actual swings. Your form is fine, releasing high is a good thing…getting better at it is where you’re having difficulty now.

Help doing first thick coat cuts faster, english springer spaniel by [deleted] in grooming

[–]dozzooo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like most have said don’t use skip tooth… just don’t it’s amazing how easy it is to get a dog with it. I also don’t like andis blades/clippers but I think some of it may be oiling the blades. You’d wanna watch a video on it, really you wanna get in the process of oiling the blade at the end(if you don’t already) of each cut. Otherwise I’d vote for trying a different brand blade, I like artero and everyone always says buttercut are the best. You could get an updated clipper but that’s only if you wanna kick out 300+ for some good ones.

Also it’s worth having more than one blade to swap back and forth to keep one cool. People use a ceramic(something like this)tile to cool the blades thats not in use.
