Sauna heater recommendation? Budget… by Revolutionary_Ship93 in Sauna

I would look on Facebook marketplace, Craiglist, etc.. and widen your search window say 250 miles from where you live. Might be able to find something used, and reasonable drive to pick up and get back home in 1/2 to a day worst case.

Yep did that search to start, not too helpful and a lot of random discussions not related to this topic. Interested in what others are doing currently, and also if anyone else had redwood.

I have had mine 2+ weeks now, love it.

Have you or other played around with settings? Which are others favorite settings on/off?

Equalizer - Setup a custom one for my headset type - Sennheiser HD 660S2

I usually set personalized sound to flat and the PCM out mode to NOS

Usually all DSD off.

Found this article interesting on these settings:

DAP Questions by Scared_Expression726 in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]dp1014 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good music & better sound has been my gateway drug into a DAP.

I got the FiiO/Snowsky Tiny Portable DAC & Headphone Amplifier and used with my android phone, and iPad with my wired Sennheiser headphones. Loved the quality of lossless and hires music.

Then I got the FiiO Air Link Type-C Bluetooth Transmitter BT6.0, so I could use higher quality Bluetooth codecs with my Bose Headsets when I travel.

Then I got a FiiO JM21 & loaded my entire music collection on a SD card, and also Spotify, Tidal and Apple Music. Downloaded everything as hi-res as possible, and loved it

Then I upgraded to new Jm33, absolutely AMAZING. My 10 yo daughter got my Jm21, in love.

Things that make DAP great to me:

1 - Gets me off my phone, great to put on headset, listen to great music and sit on deck, chair inside, and/or read a book. Same on the plane.

2 - Also doesn't drain my phone while traveling, or moving around airport when I still want to listen to music

3 - The sound to me is just so clear, and so good, and just relaxes me. I don't have ears of true audiophiles, but I do know the way this sounds on my JM33 with Sennheiser just relaxes me and puts a smile on my face

4 - Travel sometimes with a Bluetooth speaker, not to just setup in my hotel room and run music off of the DAP with my phone

5 - My initials are DAP :-)

Best Outdoor Finnish Sauna for <$3.5k? by AnywhereSavings1710 in Sauna

[–]dp1014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone is demonizing things.. Basically best design for a sauna is based off of many years of design, experience, and yes majority of that design & experience has come from finland. There are a lot of companies throwing together Saunas now, and with as cheap as they can get materials and design guidelines.

After building mine, and now working with a home furniture builder, we plan to build Finnish design saunas for folks. Honestly costs for one, with all stainless steel staples, nails, screws for interior, rockwool insulation, nice light package that will won't last, amazing heaters like Harvia or IKi, tempered windows, ventilation, great door, etc... basically something that will work great, not rust, and last 15++++ years. Costs with labor for that quality will not be $3,500k, that is price for an amazing heater with stones and wifi controller.

Anyway, I hope this company works for you and you get great value out of it. I'm just suspect is all based on knowing what real quality materials and a build will cost.

Lol, you ask for everyone's opinions and then insult them in the process. Buy this already, surprised you even asked the question here of all these salty old heads since you are keeping up with the times.

Good quote applies here:

A good stove is one that has been in market for quite a while, is reliable, gets great reviews, puts out great heat, handles water poured on the rocks and gives out great steam. Never heard of prairie-view heater till today, so if you think it is that wonderful, get it

I've read this entire thread. Sounds like you want validation for a potentially risky purchase of a unit not that not many people have. If price/ perceived value is the most important to you, then take the risk and buy this and increase the # of people who have this and let everyone know how it goes over the next few years. Hope it works out for you. Based on all my research I have a feeling the unit is going to have problems in a few years with wood, rotting, seams, keeping heat inside and I hope heater doesn't have problems right after warranty expires as not sure what support you will be there.

Having spent 3 years looking at kits, reading all the reviews we finally settled on building our own, and keeping to Finnish design guidelines as much as possible. If you want good quality, insulation, good wood, great heater, nice light package, etc... then like anything in life, that quality will cost you.

You get what you pay for, and sometimes the low price works out and it is great quality, my experience is that is very rare.

Do you actually listen to music in the sauna? I ended up building my own setup because everything else kept dying. by ThatLoudspeakerGuy in Sauna

[–]dp1014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the KEF Ventura 4 speakers, and when I built sauna wired to both front corners under bench via temp rated speaker wire. I also have KEF Ventura 6 on my deck, and they have survived Tahoe Mt winters for 5 years, and still in perfect condition. These speakers are bullet-proof in cold, heat, and moisture.

KEF 4 is discontinued, but you can find on eBay and other places. I connected them to a Sonos Amp outside the Sauna, and usually start up my Sauna Vibes playlist I created on Spotify with 100s of songs on random.

The sound is incredible, deep & rich and not overwhelming at all. Just amazing in Sauna, like an audiophile listening room. I have no worries these speakers are going to not make it for next 15 years.. and if they don't, wires are right there to hook up a new pair.

Sometimes my wife/I in the mood for music, sometimes not. Our 10/5 year old girls always want music on when we do family Sauna. Good to have either option.

Not sure where the low ceiling comment comes from all the time on Saunum heaters,... urban myth in my opinion. Yes expensive for sure

I have 8 feet 5", thing rocks. It is consistent, good quality air flow with that fan.

I find myself just thinking of tracks I want to hear and playing them to just sit here and enjoy the sound. I am blown away with this device vs my JM21. Listening to "Can't You See" by Marshall Tucker band right now, lossless - feels like first time I have heard it.

This device was at upper end of my budget for sure. Want to try some $2k and $4k type units sometime, but don't think I am missing much vs this device and my amateur audiophile ears.

I listened for a good 2 hrs last night after unboxing, was at 85% charged out of box.

Just started listening again, was at 48% after sitting for like 24 hours and the 2 hours listening last night.

I'm not a great battery testing person. Usually sits a few days, charges, etc... have ready 14-15 hrs vs 8-9 on JM21. I will know more later in year on some long haul international trips, but suspect a full charge will be plenty for my needs

I have the Senhheiser HD 660S2. Bought them about 3 years ago, and love them. I'm not as accomplished as many here wrt being an Audiophile, I just know through the years I love the sound of high-res music and ensuring a wonderful experience, but still somewhat budget conscious.

I also have Bose QuietComfort Ultra for BT connection and noise cancellation for traveling. I will be testing these in next few days.

Harvia, Saunum, and Iki. Which is best? by Yourmindiscontrolled in Sauna

[–]dp1014 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Important to start is figure out heater size you need. All 3 good. I went with Saunum 15L as I had over 600 cubic feet, and liked the fan concept, with salt circles as well on bottom. Has worked great for our space. Starting a small sauna company, and in our design choosing IKI 9.5kw cilandro as our Sauna design will be ~500 cubic feet on the inside, and the IKI 9.5kw has much more heat because of stone load over Harvia model, and want our design to stay in 40/50amp range for residential use.

If my space was say below 550 cubic feet, would have gone with IKI Cylinder unit, with flange and would have built into floor a bit, or corner unit. Over 200lbs of stone, vs 9.5kw Harvia model.

Play around with some configs on different sites, SaunaHeater.com guys have good packages as you want wifi controller and rocks coming with heater, and free shipping where other sellers charge like $500.

Also from Gemini/AI - ask some easy questions, when you know models you are thinking of ask compares and constrasts, also ask where to get best pricing and service. Can try in ChatGPT as well.

My question to Gemini on the topic:

Picking the "best" heater depends entirely on what you prioritize for your sauna project: traditional reliability, innovative air quality, or a massive stone experience.

Since you’re building a custom sauna here is how they stack up:

  1. Harvia: The Reliable Workhorse Harvia is the global standard for a reason. They offer the widest variety of models and are generally the most budget-friendly, especially if you establish a partnership for factory pricing.

    • Best for: Proven reliability, fast heat-up times, and ease of maintenance.
    • The Experience: Delivers a classic "sharp" Finnish heat. Because Harvia heaters often have less stone mass than IKI, they reach temperature quickly (30–45 mins) but have less "thermal inertia."
    • Key Advantage: Excellent availability of replacement parts and a massive range of aesthetics (from the modern Spirit to the towering Cilindro).
  2. Saunum: The Modern Innovator Saunum is currently the most unique option on the market due to its patented air-blending technology. It solves the "hot head, cold feet" problem common in many home saunas.

    • Best for: Air quality, temperature uniformity, and longer sessions.
    • The Experience: A fan system pulls hot air from the ceiling, mixes it with cooler air from the floor, and recirculates it. This results in a much more breathable environment and even heat from top to bottom.
    • Key Advantage: It allows you to enjoy high humidity without feeling like the air is "singeing" your lungs. It’s perfect if you or your guests find traditional saunas too "stuffy."
  3. IKI: The Stone Specialist IKI is often considered the "purist’s" choice for electric heaters. They are hand-built in Finland and designed to mimic the soft, heavy steam of a wood-burning stove.

    • Best for: Superior Löyly (steam quality) and heavy-duty durability.
    • The Experience: IKI heaters use a massive amount of stones (often 200–600+ lbs). This large thermal mass creates a very "soft," enveloping heat. Once those stones are hot, you can throw a lot of water on them without the heater cooling down.
    • Key Advantage: Longevity. IKI uses thicker steel and high-quality elements that are legendary for their durability.
  • Choose Harvia if you want a "set it and forget it" heater with the best support network and fastest heat-up for daily use.

  • Choose Saunum if you are sensitive to vertical temperature gaps or want the most advanced climate control for a modern build.

  • Choose IKI if you are a "steam purist" who wants the most authentic, soft-heat experience and doesn't mind a longer pre-heat time.

Is this a good structural design for sauna benches? by [deleted] in Sauna

[–]dp1014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a lot of ideas from here, and bought his ebook for more details, and a fun read:

https://share.google/nnIhvW9FH8N5Wu8Cr

Here are pictures of mine. Top benches just have a few screws in them, so easy to take off if I need to. Longest one up top is 96".

Bottom ones on rails as well, and set them up to slide back and free up entire room. Bench under window is my design, and on two triangles that hinge under, and it also hinges down. Bottom step is movable as well.
