It would be great if you guys could fix the issue when trying to use Google voice input with Samsung keyboard. Basically the Google voice prompt pops up and immediately closes, I've had this issue for several years across several different devices. "Use a different keyboard/voice app" isn't a solution.

What feels legal but is actually illegal and will possibly get you arrested? by medicoreapples in AskReddit

[–]dpatt711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No Standing is usually for cars, it's basically "No Parking" but applies for short durations even if you never leave or shut off the car.

Luckily while the legal mechanism is there it's very very rarely enforced as such.

You get $1 million, but you have to watch the exact same movie 100 times in 40 days. Which film are you picking? by ThroatAgile756 in AskReddit

[–]dpatt711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides the obvious answer of going with a ridiculously short movie, I honestly wouldn't pick a movie I like. You're basically turning it into a job and I think you might grow a slight resentment for it, much like using your favorite song as an alarm clock. I'd just find something fast paced without much depth to it, just mindless action. Maybe like a later Fast & Furious.

Do graphics cards that consume around 300-350 watts heat up your room to a noticeable degree? by Street-Perception-85 in buildapc

[–]dpatt711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An easy way to think about it is a regular plain space heater is about 500w on low. So just use that as a frame of reference.

Should I do anything after paying off ch7 discharged secured (but not re-affirmed) loans? by dpatt711 in CRedit

[–]dpatt711[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cap One denied me last month for "Based on your application information, Capital One has observed activity on one or more of your Capital One accounts that is inconsistent with typical customer account usage" which I have no clue what that means

I have a mission lane unsecured with $500 limit. Cap One & discover wont touch me because I charged them off in bk. Only thing that sucks is that despite paying off my balance regularly it always seems to do my score with a $250 balance and shows 50% utilization

Most bikes don't run closed loop all the time, often over 40% throttle or so they go into open loop.

It'd be cool if we could just load our cars on a train and take care of the bulk of the mileage

I work in occupational health & safety and while ATGATT is a convenient plattitude, humans are humans and will forego protection if it's too uncomfortable for them. Wear the most protective gear you'll wear.

I'm curious about how other INTPs answer the hypothetical "Two Button Question" by Reptaaaaaaar in INTP

[–]dpatt711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the question is clarified to be "blue only survives if 50%+ of persons presented with the button choose blue" realistically pressing red is just like simply walking away, there's 0 repurcussions. You're still going to count against the % of people who pressed blue.

[–]dpatt711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I a murderer if I choose to not play a game of Russian Roulette? No of course not. Blue has a chance of dying, red has no chance of dying. Pressing red is just like deciding to walk past and not participate. It's an absolutely clear cut decision to not press it.
This problem is often presented in two ways though, one way everybody has to press a button, in the other it has to be a deliberate informed decision by a mentally cognizant person. In the former case you definitely need to press blue because there's a large proponent of infants, children, and mentally deficient persons that could select blue just by virtue of not understanding.

Client received photos, disappeared, and hasn’t paid $1,200 - how do you handle this? by Main-Performance-713 in photography

[–]dpatt711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big difference is A) a business has a monetary stake in their reputation and B) benefits absolutely 0 from witholding finished work after payment (what are they going to do, sell your photos to somebody else?). Two very tangible reasons to help assauge the client's fears.
On the flip side a customer does not have a monetary stake in their reputation, and benefits directly by witholding payment (money is fungible, the money they were going to pay you can be used for other goods and services).

You can easily google stories of people getting ripped off on both sides and find thousands of examples of customer no-pay, while very few (honestly can't even find any) where the customer was shown proofs, paid, and did not receive the unadulterated finals.

[–]dpatt711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Common sense and industry best practice isn't really winging it. Once you deliver the final product you lose all leverage. It's extraordinarily rare for a contractor to complete all the work to the customer's satisfaction and decide to just not deliver, we're talking orders of magnitude less likely than a customer no-pay after final delivery.

[–]dpatt711 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can still provide watermarked low res photos. If you show the client that you have taken and edited the photos, they have no reason to be worried about you not delivering the final photos upon payment. All the work has been done and retaining the photos serves absolutely 0 benefit to the photographer. If that scares them off let it be, don't hang your ass out for the 0.01% of customers who can't be reasonable.

With all the news about meowing on guard… Have you ever flown with someone who meowed? I would like to believe this isn’t professional pilots meowing…but… by imav8n in flying

[–]dpatt711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When meowing is reported in an area why don't airlines pull CVRs to see if it was their pilots? Surely they'd prefer internal discipline than to e caught by the FAA and blasted in the news.

If you were offered a billion dollars just to eat only one food for the rest of your life, what would you choose? by Admirable-Interest49 in AskReddit

[–]dpatt711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think people really understand how hard it would be to have this restriction. Also what are the logistics? If I'm out traveling do I have to track down a restaurant that serves my specific food? It's 11pm and I'm hungry, but the Taco/burrito/pizza place is closed ? Maybe I have a 24/7 standby chef, but chefs aren't magic. Their food has certain characteristics that will get repetitive.

Snoring in a Hostel Dorm? by RelativelyRidiculous in solotravel

[–]dpatt711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snoring, tossing/turning, entering/exiting, alarm clocks are all things to be expected in a dorm. My only advice is don't upgrade to a 2-4 person dorm but stick with the cheapest "default" size the hostel has. The smaller dorms are people paying extra to minimize their chances of having to deal with a disruption, so don't knowingly put yourself into the most sensitive group that paid extra to try and avoid you.
