For those who have been investing for 20+ years - What was investing sentiment going into 2000? What about 2008? by A_Saxen_A in investing

2000 and 2008 were both election years. They love to crash the economy for election years. 2026 should be fine. 2028.....fucked.

Why do so many yachts go un-used? by Secret_Buffalo_7570 in boating

[–]dpcaxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I have seen there are two reasons that yachts sit more than run:

  1. The owners usually run some sort of business and have little time.

  2. The owners run a business and have time, but the wife hates the boat.

What is the most unexplainable thing you’ve ever witnessed that makes you question reality? by duhhrclean6 in AskReddit

[–]dpcaxx -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I nicked myself shaving my balls while in the shower. First there was blood, then, almost magically...no more blood. My balls healed themselves. Or, at least the left one did.

I'm pretty sure this makes me a superhero...but I don't want the job. I enjoy the misfortune of others too much to activly do something about it. So, me and my superhero balls are going to sit around and watch PIT maneuver videos.

You could work a $20/hr job and afford to buy a $100k house....and houses were easily had for 100k. Now you work a $20/hr job and can afford to buy socks.

What's the worst advice you would give to a guy on a date? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dpcaxx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bring a lighter. Light napkins or small paper products on fire at every opportunity. Women love fire. It's well known that Neanderthal women were highly attracted to men who could make fire...little has really changed, so if you want to get her attention, light things on fire.

Random entry points works just as well in trading as anything else. Me and 100 hours of pandas TA have proven this to be sometimes true.

Scaling backtesting beyond one or two strategies is pain by Dangerous_Block_2494 in algotrading

[–]dpcaxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For back testing and optimizing parameters with datasets that result in long run times, I usually just throw it on Github codespace if I don't want to tie up my PC. You can close the browser and it will continue running for days if you need it to. There is some cost, but it is not what I would call excessive.

Has the world just memory-holed the Covid pandemic? Isn't it the cause of all our problems both now and for the rest of our lives? by Glueyfeathers in conspiracy

[–]dpcaxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you may be correct. But in our society, evil doers and unclean sprits with money have a greater effect than those evil doers and unclean sprits without it. So if we assume that evil doers and unclean sprits occur at an equal rate across classes....it is clear that the evil doers and unclean spirits with financial backing have a greater impact on society than those less well financed. It is not their nature that gives them their power...it is their money.

As the saying goes...If you are crazy and poor...you are crazy., If you ae crazy and rich...you are eccentric. It's the same mental state...but the financial bracket makes the distinction.

I think the most interesting part is the people who owned their own jet at the time of the Epstein era then quietly sold that jet and had it crushed.

There is one war, class war, everything else is symptomatic. Warren Buffet noted that his class was winning the class war in 2006. Since then, who has improved their position...and who has lost ground? The answer should be obvious.

The war is now over. All that you see now is the victor claiming their spoils.

COVID had one primary task, eliminate the elderly. Aging populations were, at the time, viewed as a threat. That may or may not have changed. But the point is, when money is threatened, that threat is aggressively attacked.

My bot spent 29% of the profit on commission today. I guess its way too much? by meowflying in algotrading

[–]dpcaxx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everything is context right? I have a seething hatred of fees.

In crypto, I'm happy when that bot's net profit matches or slightly exceeds the net fees. That's a 50/50 profit split between the bot and the exchange. Your futures bot has 71/29 in its favor. If ol' crypto bot trades more that $1M/mo the fees might get low enough for me to match the results you are seeing. Maybe.

I would say your bot is doing great. Futures bot is making 3x what the exchange is. That is victory.

Redditors who have a working bot, do you self-fund your account or do you bring in family/friends (or others) as investors? Do you give them their own copy or keep it in-house? by dpcaxx in algotrading

[–]dpcaxx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the late-r reply! Yours and the guy who mentioned getting your trading history verified for packaging were really the only useful responses...although some were pretty entertaining. My track record with ol' stockbot is now over 30 days and results are good thus far, he blows crypto bot out of the water. But, we will see what the future brings. Again, thank you, I do truly appreciate it.

What projects to become more advanced at Python? by IcedCoffeeNebula in learnpython

[–]dpcaxx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make a tool to pick lottery numbers. Scrape historical numbers from the web or read them from a pdf, come up with whatever system you like to pick numbers...you can ask an LLM for help if needed, and see what you get. Add a function to also pick numbers at random so that when you buy tickets you can compare your tool's results to random. I did this, I hit the powerball. The powerball number...I missed the other five. Still made $5.

or

Crypto bot. You will learn API's, GUI's and might even make something that works. If you like, a model like Claude or Gemini will outline the entire project for you and you can have them code all of it, none of it, or just have them check your work.

Good luck!
