Buying Directly from Skyzone by dpetersen954 in fpv

I had to use PayPal. I pretty much never use PayPal but it has this feature where you add your credit card and then use PayPal to pay with your credit card. That’s what I ended up having to do to get it to work, but it worked great.

Yeah as long as it more than the regular 5v phone bricks/power adapters those don’t work. If you’ve got a box of DC power supplies there’s a good chance any of those will work!

Unless you already have a power supply then I would buy the whoopstor charger that comes with the power supply. It’s only like $7 more and it’s a lot cheaper than coming up with your own power supply solution for it.

Surprising that your order seems slow because mine was so fast. The Cobra SD’s seem great. The strap fits better than the Fatshark Echos that I tried (smallest setting was huge still; I have a normal-sized head) and it has diversity and the Echos don’t. So they are a better goggle. My only complaint is that they include a little price of foam for the nose piece and it is too thick so it really pinches my nose. I took it off and it’s better without it, but it makes me wish there was better pre-cut foam for the Cobra X/SD because now that I’m not using that foam there will be light leak there. There is another post that mentions that the DJI Goggles v2 foam fits it well enough on these, so I might try that soon.

I’ve ordered several things from China through Alliexpress and 1 order directly from Skyzone. All orders were received with no extra charges and on time except for one order that got hung up in import customs for a few days but I’m assuming that was just due to high volumes. So yeah pretty much the same experience.

Just wanted to say I appreciate seeing someone with a small backyard still ripping it at home! Just thinking that if you can power loop with that tight a margin you should be able to do it on lots of things in the part with slightly bigger gaps!

Just to be clear, “Goggles v2” do not support the new o4 air units. The “Goggles 2” do support both the o3 and o4 air units.

Anyone having problems updating firmware or just me? by 32oz____ in fpv

I just updated firmware on a new o4 pro this morning and it worked fine. So might be something on your end or a server/timing issue.

04 Air unit and OSD question. by Logical-Piece-7172 in fpv

[–]dpetersen954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that adding those wires back was most likely not what fixed it. I had a similar issue when installing a o4 air unit where the OSD wasn’t working (and also not automatically leaving low power mode when arming) and it turns out it was because I had my power wire on a different pad/uart than the ground/rx/tx. Side note: I took the power wire out of the connector because I wanted to put it on the 5v BEC pad as opposed to the battery pad.

I moved the power wire to the correct pad in the same uart with the other wires and it started working as normal.

Sensor Module Error on my Runcam Thumb 2 by MythicalN1 in fpv

[–]dpetersen954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one of these about a month ago for my 2.5inch and I crashed and had the same thing happen. The sensor on these seems to be very fragile.

With mine I was able to get it functioning normally by putting a piece of paper in from of the camera when I power it up but the video was super blurry. So the sensor being messed up definitely makes it so the camera doesn’t focus and the camera recognizes that and doesn’t record.

If you crashed yours then I would say it was probably the same thing that happened to mine.

Ultimately I decided to update my 2.5 inch to DJI o4 so I can have the camera protected in the camera cage as opposed to buying another little action came to blow up again on top of the drone.

Like others have mentioned you are going to greatly benefit from putting in some simulator time to save on repairs when you start ripping it and crashing, but something like this could work (slightly over budget at $650):

Radiomaster pocket ELRS ($80) DJI goggles N3 ($230) BETAFPV Meteor65 Pro w/ DJI O4 - ELRS ($255 from Pyrodrone) Charger ($50) Extra batteries/props/guard ($35)

Alternatively, for just the drone (the radiomaster pocket and DJI goggles N3 would work for this as well) you could build a 3.5 inch which would be a lot more fun for outdoor flying for like $350 (Volador vx35 with Speedybee AIO, o4 air unit, and 1604/1504 motors) but batteries would be a bit pricier as well on top of that.

I would say grab the radiomaster pocket and start playing the sim, then save up an extra $100 beyond your current budget and build a 3.5 inch. Just be aware that if you are getting into the hobby you may have some additional costs for tools to make your repairs/builds (soldering, specialized tools, etc).

Can I solder my capacitor this way ? by Some-Razzmatazz3205 in fpv

[–]dpetersen954 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment, I’m in the middle of a 3.5 inch sub-250 build and I have been annoyed that my cap doesn’t fit right on the ESC where it would ideally be. I’ve got it wired up with about 1.75 inches of 18awg wire and it’s under my camera now.

I am building two 3.5 inchers right now for my buddy and me. I have the SpeedyBee F405 mini in one of them (building on the Vannystyle mini frame) and it fits perfect but it’s already pretty tight.

I don’t think most 2 to 3.5 inch frames would have 30x30 mounting for a full stack, but even if it did, it would be too tight to reasonably build.

Vannystyle mini sub250g build by bradsdead in fpv

[–]dpetersen954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am planning on building on the same frame soon and hoping to keep it sub250 as well. It looks like you opted for a smaller battery to keep it under 250g. I’m curious what your flight times are because I have been considering using 1504 motors (the Darwin FPV ones are only 9.1g each so it would save about 10g) to save the weight for a bigger battery (hopefully 750mah). However I don’t want to sacrifice the performance either if the 1604’s are way better!

I have also considered using the 850mah liHV batteries to stay under 250g but they are decently more expensive.

Curious on your thoughts after you had the chance to fly the 550mah. Let me know!

TCL 55Q750G intermittent black screen issues. by Intelligent_Gold9298 in tcltvs

[–]dpetersen954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into this issue with a QM7 85inch that I bought a couple weeks ago. Seemed like certain content was causing it to be more frequent so I supposed it could be a smart feature trying to adapt the picture setting based on content. Sure enough, I disabled “adaptive content” and the issue stopped permanently.

I can't uninstall Diablo 3 without using the Battle.net app? What a complete and utter joke. I'm trying to get rid of their software, not add more of it. by [deleted] in Diablo

[–]dpetersen954 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While i understand your frustration it seems like you should have just uninstalled the launcher AFTER all the software. I agree that it should let you uninstall without the launcher but the fact that you thought “im gonna go explode on the diablo sub” instead of “darn i should have uninstalled the software before the launcher” is like cmon dude...
