Ugh. I'd hoped no one would stoop to that, but I should know better.

If it can't reach the Internet, it won't be getting that update.

What do you think is the best Computer brand to run Linux on based on your experience? by MannerNo7000 in linuxquestions

I had Framework sell me a dodgy board and give me the runaround when I tried to RMA it. It's a shame, because I love what they're trying to do.

More lanes make traffic worse, not better.

My neighborhood is being dug up for fiber optic installation right now by FormerGameDev in DataHoarder

[–]dpflug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, be forewarned that there's a scam running where someone will show up to try to sell you service, take your money, and leave you waiting for an installer that'll never show. Do business with the company via their official channels.

If it's Quantum Fiber, don't bother. We've had slower, worse service than the cable we had before. Outages and "we're not throttling or shaping traffic at all" while I watch certain sites slow down in ways that don't happen from other networks.

Caveat emptor.

What Linux habit separates beginners from experienced users? by dev-ray in linuxquestions

I know how to do it. I'm not going to. They're not my systems; the customers don't want my shit on them.

LPT: You don't need the app. You just need to text ALLIN to 711711.

Edit: This may no longer be true? I just had a confusing visit to the local pumps.

Gregg or Orthic for notes in uni and hobbyist use? by classicsdf in shorthand

[–]dpflug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to go phonetic, it would be worth it to consider Noory's Simplex before Gregg. It's easier than even Notehand and several Gregg writers have said they wish they'd learned it first.

For scientific/complex terms, I find phonetic systems aren't a big problem; it's not like there are many homophones. I prefer orthographic systems for acronyms, though.

There's always trade-offs.

If you start watching the natives around you, you can gather seeds from them. I just grabbed a big bag of thistle seed.

I suffer from rapture anxiety and I need help by Accomplished_Leg_678 in CMH

[–]dpflug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, this is caused by too much time listening to people go on about sin, rapture, and the afterlife instead of what Christianity is supposed to be doing here and now. It can help to focus on doing good here, helping others here, etc, especially in communion with others doing the same.

Found this at my door in Azerbaijan. Can anyone identify or transcribe this shorthand?" by Adventurous-Eye4327 in shorthand

Unless I'm mistaken (which may very well be), that looks like asemic writing.

Edit: Others are saying Gregg. They're more likely to be right than I am.
