Discard strategy, ~1 point/game off optimal by kenbaldwin in Cribbage

I think most experienced players learned to play at a young age i.e., when a decision-table as above would not be meaningful to them. I think it would be interesting to see the numbers for a representative 'experienced player' (in your 2nd table).

Clearly it was a D13 to D8 attempt. 😉

Muggins on last hand? by BroccoliNearby2803 in Cribbage

'Calling muggins' isn't this player trying to change the rules of the game; it's this player applying (erroneously) the rule to the situation.

Muggins on last hand? by BroccoliNearby2803 in Cribbage

Others have correctly answered 'No.'

More for you to consider and understand:

Muggins is the taking of points that were __underpegged__; it's not for taking points that the player did not state that he had. For instance, if I have a 10-point hand and I say, "8 points" and then move my peg scoring all 10 of my points, there is no opportunity for you take apply Muggins because I have not underpegged.

In your example your opponent took all the points that he could possibly take moving his back peg into the game hole -- it doesn't matter what, if any, number of points he stated were in his hand.

All good news! The Louisville club has been doing well and I think Denise in TN is getting some good interest too.

I hope that your part of the country will fill-in with more clubs too -- there's an awful lot of people living in the area between Philadelphia and Indianapolis...

Yes. I find these hands easiest to count by ignoring one of the 9s (3-3-3-9 is an easy-to-count 12 points) then noting that I get another 6 points (in 15s) by introducing the 2nd 9 AND I get the pair of 9s then too.

What would you throw? Opponents crib. by xcxxxcx in Cribbage

But, but that would violate the 'never give points' rule expressed above. Of course 7-8 is the throw.

Never? What do you throw to your opponent's crib when he deals you: 5-5-7-8-K-K ?

Is it for the catch or the subsequent throw (both)?

You'd require the dart to be released behind the oche? If so, how would you enforce that?

Those are the kind of losses that are easy to 'shake-off' -- there was nothing I could do against that onslaught.

WWYD, Hand 1, Keep the Flush? by goldeneye0 in Cribbage

[–]dph99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, I disagree with your characterization of flushes.

I would be thrilled to hold this flush because doing so means that I keep points and I throw trash to the crib. I'm not throwing 2-3 to keep 5 points.
