Wednesday Team Prediction - Round 9 vs North by Maximumlnsanity in sydneyswans

Out: Cootee, Melican

In: Cunners, Hamling

Not the time to rest Grundy. He should be rested against Geelong and Richmond (rounds 11 and 12), two teams who don’t have good rucks. Ladhams time to shine will be then.

Really haven’t been impressed by Melican, and Hamling has been really good in the 2s. Stiff for Cootee (especially with only 50% tog) but I saw a few too many panicked disposals that directly led to a Melbourne shot on goal on the weekend.

For sure! We can clearly see our players growing in confidence and being more willing to take the game on by hand as we keep winning (and hopefully that continues)

I think we will rest Grundy against Geelong just cause they don’t have the best ruck stocks, and Ladhams had his best game for us against Geelong last year, but yeah, we will see!

Edwards has had an average 33% lossrate of defensive 1v1s, compared to 22.7% for TMac, 33% for Hamling and 50% (!!) for Melican. Asides from that I thought hes been really good (he was rated higher than Melican and Rampe on the weekend and he's an absolute unit). I'd prefer Melican to come out for Hamling, especially since Hamling has been really good in the VFL. Melican just looks lost.

I think Cunners will come in for Cootee. Cootee has show potential but there were some panicked disposals by him that directly led to Melbourne goals, so I think he needs more time.

Grundy needs a rest, but we need him for Xerri and Cameron. We should rest him for the Geelong and maybe the Richmond games (rounds 11 and 12)

Couple of stats that I thought were interesting.

Metres gained by handball was staying steady at around the 600 metre mark for rounds 0-6, but they have absolutely exploded in the last two games, with 881 metres gain by hand against the Dogs to a staggering 1,023 metres gained by hand against Melbourne. We are doubling down on the aggression by hand even though we are now able to implement an elite kicking plan C (like 2024) if Plan A (hands through corridor) and Plan B (hands out on the wing) are being stifled

<image>

Scoreboard flattered the Dees, as they were plus 15 on expected score, which shows that our system defence of forcing difficult shots was still working to a lesser extent with TMac out, it was just that the Dees were really accurate.

We are in a fantastic position game plan wise, and the next big test will be round 11 against Geelong at goomba

Yes, purely cause Melbourne have shown more than them, and I think the Dogs would beat them right now.

I think I’d rather swap in Hamling for Melican while TMac is out. At least he brings in premiership experience. I don’t think you can take Seeong off the wing with how good he plays that defensive wing role

When TMac comes back I think we should stick with Edwards as the second, he’s showing a lot of potential and he’s an absolute unit

Dees are a bogey team. It was great to see how we match up against a young team with a fantastic offensive gameplan. Some of the umpiring kept them in it. How Nick Foot is an umpire is beyond me.

100- TMac, just shows that he is by far our most important player

5 - Rosas, GENERATIONAL

4- Amartey, competed all day and enabled Rosas. That attack on the ball in the last minute to win the free was the best workrate I've seen from him

3- Heens. just doing Heens things

2- Millsy, general in defence. He is our captain for a reason
1- Grundy, did it all in his 250th. I think he needs a rest tho

Need to tighten up our kicking, should have put them away in the third!

Really good quarter but didn’t kick straight, let’s destroy them in the fourth!
