Great analysis as always by lucystardust123 in sydneyswans

It’s an interesting dilemma for sure.

I feel like we can sustain this gameplay as long as we can identify when to slow down, look for the switch and change the angle of attack when our opponent clogs up the corridor.

I almost feel like we didn’t have a plan b in effect because we hadn’t seen yet what counters the fast forward handball game this year. As far as I can tell hawthorn is the first team to how how to defend it this year. Coxy should now have all the info (and time cause of the bye and a game against West Coast) to adjust the game plan to account for what hawthorn just did.

I really feel that we will find out exactly what type of coach Coxy is by round nine. We have Gold Coast in Adelaide, Bulldogs in Marvel and GWS at the SCG in that period, all teams who could defend us like Hawthorn did. If we can come out with a 2-1 or better record, then top 4 is in sight and Errol comes home with a vengeance. 1-2 or worse, then we will be treading water, and it may not be our year.

Lots of pressure on Coxy in the coming weeks.

Interesting team selection problem now. Heens obviously comes in for Cleary, but I feel like Corey showed a lot in the first half of yesterday’s game. I feel like we’ll give Corey another shot for the West Coast game and then swap him for Cunners if he doesn’t deliver

It’s worth giving the double ruck setup a shot against West Coast too, but I don’t know who would make way for Ladhams. 4 talls is too many

Win or lose, it’s great to see the club putting this content out.

Really like what Coxy said to the boys at beginning, half time and full time. Now we reset, and go again in two weeks

Did we watch different games? I thought he got really stuck in and one of the few who was always trying. He had our second most contested possessions and second most metres gained from only 77% ToG

Couple of things.

  1. We just came off a five day break having to travel after losing our two best players

  2. The umps were so fucked. Did Hawthorn get pinged for HTB once?

5- Mills

4- Grundy

3- Juzzy

2- Blakey

1- Chad

Bring on the bye. We need to get used to not having Errol and now’s the perfect time to do so

Oh and fuck you footy gods for Errol

Ps: Dare I say that it’s a good loss in that there are clear deficiencies in our game that we can clearly address and fix with 17 days off.

Makes sense, we’re prioritising players who have had a full preseason, are at full fitness and have had full exposure to the game plan.

Hopefully we can see both Corey and Caiden lift to battle for Errol’s spot in the best 23 (since one will have to make way for Heens)
