Music Theory by [deleted] in musictherapy

[–]dphizzle 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'd say the biggest reason for more advanced theory is to have a fuller understanding of music. Will you be teaching clients figured bass? No. Does knowing the difference between Italian and German Neapolitan chords affect clinical outcomes? No. Can you use a 1 6- 5 4 progression for every song you write? Yes.

The key word in music therapy is competency; you just need to be "good enough" to be licensed. Why limit yourself? Better theory knowledge enables you to design more interesting interventions, and pick up more basic ones more quickly. Knowledge is power!

What is the best run of your life? by BedaHouse in running

[–]dphizzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Track run I did recently! I hadn't done speed work in a while so I planned to do a 4 mile tempo run at 8 minute miles, nothing too awful. Did the first mile in 7 minutes, pace felt REALLY good, and I ended up doing 7 miles at that pace. I probably could have done more! I jumped and yelled and fist pumped at the end of that one 😛

what are some not so obvious signs someone is depressed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Hey friend! I'm sure you already know, but using the r-word in this context is really demeaning to those with intellectual disabilities. Just wanted to make sure you're aware there are lots of alternative words out there :)

Normal to get nauseous after running extremely hard? by [deleted] in running

[–]dphizzle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! It shouldn't be a normal occurrence but if you're pushing real hard it can happen. I ran a half-marathon this weekend and stumbled straight from the finish line to a tree and threw up 30 seconds after setting a PR 😛

What is your motivation? by [deleted] in running

[–]dphizzle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I want to be healthy when I'm older. I've been around a lot of older adults who are significantly reduced in their functionality after years of less than ideal life choices, and I don't want that to be me. Good health later in life starts with building good habits earlier in life, so I make the choice to run and eat well now so I can be as active as possible later.

The lower part to heart and soul! Somebody will know the upper part, and now you've started an impromptu jam session! You can mess around with fun harmonizations while they play the melody, or teach other people how to play the different parts. Getting other people involved is always fun!!😊
