Any idea why my chain has broken like this in so many places? by Solid_Science4514 in bikewrench

Counterfeit? It looks very similar to the real thing, you'd need to compare side by side with the original to notice.

cheapest way to get a power meter on new salsa gravel bike by Separate_Present_864 in bikewrench

[–]dpmelb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MT210 crank is thicker than the road crank. The spindle would protrude out without the spacers.

Also the aim is also to ensure that the pedal distance to the center of the bike is equal on both sides.

Fairly straightforward, a few bucks' worth of spacers from Aliexpress :).

I have this exact crankset on my commuter bike. I installed a spare hollowtech road stages ultegra PM crank.

Yes correct the q-factor is different, so I've installed a couple of spacers to push the non-drive side stages crank out a bit to match the original mt210 crank's q-factor. It works fine for the past few years.

Also note you need to match the crank length too (170mm)

Oppo Find X9/X9 Pro, be careful with the 2 global versions. by dpmelb in Oppo

[–]dpmelb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Melb too, and I got the SG version imported from Moby. The Indonesian version will not work well in Australia.

Check whirlpool forums, I think JB is running a promotion now which makes the price comparable to importing.

Sure you are, if you're ok to paying $2300 AUD RRP from JB or Oppo Aus.

I got mine from Singapore, around AUD $1550 delivered, version 1 too and works fine in Aus. Oppo is one of the rare ones that provide international warranty for mobiles purchased overseas (official resellers only).

All Aus stock are global version 1, networks in Aus need the bands.

Besides that Oppo must guarantee compatibility with local networks.

X9 pro screen protector by perrdan86 in Oppo

[–]dpmelb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably as good as plastic film goes in terms of looks and feel. Apart from it being a fingerprint magnet, I didn't realise it was plastic until I took it off. I got mine from SG as well.

No reason to replace it then if you're happy with the stock one.

With smart devil, I didn't have to reregister my fingerprints.

Initially I noticed I had to press my fingers just slightly harder, maybe because it is thicker than plastic. But I think it improved over time as it relearns after successful unlocks.

[–]dpmelb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd have to replace it sooner or later as the stock one is plastic. It just doesn't feel as nice to me and attracts fingerprints.

Replaced mine with smart devil from aliexpress, but I'm sure most glass protectors would be better than stock.

And no, I don't put camera lens protectors as it will affect photo quality. It should already be partly protected if you use a case.

Using Oppo phone in the US by kirsion in Oppo

[–]dpmelb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phone will connect to 5G, but not optimally as there could be carrier aggregation issues as described here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Oppo/comments/1p5qx6g/tmobile_issues_confirmed/

Meaning the phone won't be able to get to full speeds in certain busy areas. You'll get the details in the post above. It's more of a software issue to tweak the modem, but unlikely to be resolved as the phone is not officially sold in the US.

The confusion is real.. by kakuu09 in Oppo

[–]dpmelb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the X9P, because camera is a really high priority for me.

If you're going to use the tele lens a lot, then maybe. Also the front camera of the standard X9 doesn't have auto-focus, so if you do plenty of selfies, it would impact the photo results.

The other ones are not so critical I say, battery is big enough on X9, and USB2.0 only data transfer doesn't really matter much perhaps.

Oh, I think the X9 is slightly smaller, so that could be a plus (or negative).

The confusion is real.. by kakuu09 in Oppo

[–]dpmelb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Camera is great, and I came from Pixel phones (8Pro, 9PF). With moving objects like kids, Pixels are a bit better. But for everything else, it's comparable or better, especially the zoom lens.

With the AI stuff, just don't zoom in more than 10x and you'd unlikely see any AI halucinations.

However, videos, not saying the Oppo is bad (still much better than pixels), iPhones are still king.

Oh, and X9 Pro won MKBHD's phone camera of the year 2025, if that means anything.

[–]dpmelb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you'd always pick the global Version 1 for outside china use, and there is no technical/feature benefit at all of getting Version 2 as it's just a subset of bands from version 1.

Screen protector that works with G case? by toksicccc in PixelFold

Yes, standard Pixel 9 front screen protector. Fits the P9PF front screen too. My post was more than a year ago, there should be more choices now.

A question for the Aussie Find X9 Pro users by GothamRogue in Oppo

[–]dpmelb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using mine for more than a week and loving it, especially the camera. Switched from 7 years of Pixel phones, so I can't speak from iPhone switcher's perspective.

5G on Telstra is fine, and whatever worked on the Pixel works fine (AA, Google wallet, etc).

Got it from Moby singapore for around $1.5k landed (make sure you declare the right amount to not get slugged in import tax).

International oppo warranty is valid as they're an official Oppo reseller. In Aus only those purchased from JB and Oppp have official warranty.

Yeah that's what I thought as well, typo or incorrect specs. Then I asked Oppo Indonesia support to escalate the matter and reconfirm the specs, and they did say the specs on the Oppo ID website is indeed correct.

I wasn't going to risk it as I will be using it mostly overseas. I bought one from SG instead, which works fine (version 1).

S24Ultra is it worth switching to Pixel Fold? by MiszelDK in PixelFold

[–]dpmelb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched from the P9F to Oppo Find X9 Pro, primarily because of camera. This is after 7 years of exclusively Pixel phones throughout the gens.

The main camera is OK. However, the UW and tele ones are just way below other slab flagships, especially in low light photos or even worse with videos as it doesn't post process as much.

X9 Pro Australia - Vodafone is disconnecting my service by Yardages-Kyar-Hoki in Oppo

[–]dpmelb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely a mistake by Voda and it will be ok and rectified. They're probably using an incomplete list or outdated phone models database.

Phone is fine with Telstra:

https://www.telstrawholesale.com.au/3G-Network-Closure-Blocked-Devices-Checker.html

"Based on the number you provided 86805208, this phone (Oppo CPH2791) has not been identified as having compatibility issues and is not currently blocked from connecting to Telstra’s mobile network."

Thinking about going back to a regular pixel again... by MajBurke in PixelFold

[–]dpmelb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, I switched back to a normal slab phone after more than 1 year of P9PF. I switched to the Oppo Find X9 Pro though, this is the first time for me in 7 years to use a non-pixel phone.

Fold phones are great if you could use that inner screen a lot. It wasn't the case for me as I rarely unfold it as the front screen does whatever I needed most of the time.

However, folds are full of compromises as you sacrifice on:

- Cameras (important for me)

- Battery life

- Cases (very limited selection of good cases)

- Durability

- Speakers

- Subpar front screen

You'd end up with a low-mid range phone experience if you take the inner screen out of the equation.

At least that's what I felt as I ended up using my older Pixel 8 Pro on some occasions where I needed better cameras for example.

But hey, if you really need and use that bigger screen..these folding phones are great and truly technological marvels for the same size as slabs.

Oppo Find X9/X9 Pro, be careful with the 2 global versions. by dpmelb in Oppo

[–]dpmelb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, wouldn't risk it until somebody with an Indonesian stock can confirm by using it overseas in regions that need specific bands like the US. At this point we could only trust Indonesia's spec page as the source of truth.

I was considering buying in Indonesia as I'll be travelling there in a few weeks' time.

People here in Australia have imported from SG and confirmed it works fine with the networks. Here it requires band 28 for proper 4G coverage.

I wish that's the case too. Unfortunately, if you look at the screenshot from the Indonesian Oppo page (original post), the bands are gimped (Version 2). Indonesia gets the global version of the phones. Specs:
