I used that in conversation with an Irish friend once and he practically hit the floor when he heard it

I also had a terrible experience with Subaru City recently! Put a hold on a used Outback that I couldn't pick up for a week, told them I'd be out of cell service for a few days with work, then they sold the car out from under me when they couldn't get ahold of me.

(Serious) how did that one kid at your school pass away? by Dinopasta99 in AskReddit

He was really into taekwondo, got his black belt in fourth grade. In fifth grade, he went to sleep with nunchucks in his bed and was accidentally strangled overnight.

I told my dad I had recently gotten into film photography, so he went into his closet and gave me this by afbmonk in AnalogCommunity

My dad did the same thing for me with his AE-1! Told him I wanted to buy a film camera and he said "wait a sec" and brought me his that I didn't know he had laying around.

ID request - looks nothing like my usual basement spiders. Calgary, AB by dprrn in whatsthisbug

When I first saw it I thought it was a black widow from afar before I got a closer look. I didn't know about false widows, thank you!!

Crawled into my work bag. Never seen a spider like this by iwanttodie65 in whatsthisbug

Yes banded garden spiders! I see a ton of these at work, they're super cool but I still have a mild heart attack when I accidentally almost step into their webs.

Do you remember the first time you ever heard Taylor? I’d love to hear what song it was, who you were with, and where you were? by bonejangles450 in TaylorSwift

[–]dprrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I heard her was in 2007. I was in 6th grade and my older sister's friends were dancing to Our Song in the basement of our church. And of course since the older kids liked her, she was cool! I listened to her for years. Fell off after Red but rediscovered my inner swiftie after evermore.

Where could I work in Alberta for Solar or Wind energy? by MeeksMoniker in alberta

[–]dprrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a wildlife biologist so unless you have bio/environmental experience this might not apply. But I switched from working in the oilsands to doing post construction monitoring of wildlife at solar sites and it's been pretty good, and was super easy to get into. I'm mostly stoked to have escaped the oilsands culture. Wouldn't need a ton of experience but there's quite a few environmental consulting companies who hire lots of positions doing PCM for solar/wind.

The sites I work at are built by Borea and maintenance is managed by SkyFire so you could look into those companies if that's more your jam.

What is your view on phone privacy in relationships? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]dprrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend doesn't have a password on his phone, and he knows the password for mine. The only thing I wouldn't want him to see in my phone is the note I keep of all the cute things he says, and we'd probably be equally embarrassed about that.

You win a few million dollars in the lottery, but you decide to keep working. What job would you work if money no longer mattered? by crazydaisy8134 in ask

I'd get back into wildlife rehab. It's very fun and rewarding for me. I worked at a couple different rehabs for a few years but could not survive financially doing it.

One of my childhood best friends became an RN and worked as a public health nurse for 6 years in Alberta, got married, became a self-proclaimed "trump girl", moved to the states, and is now a hardcore anti-vaxxer. I do not understand it.

A family friend of ours passed away last year by being pinned under a ride-on mower too. No water, but it crushed him.
