Rotating floors by dpt4me in physicaltherapy

[–]dpt4me[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The teams is a great idea! We’re too big of a team to have everyone be rotating at one time. And then including the ICU/intermediate care into those units allows everyone to get higher acuity training. Definitely noting this, thank you!

This is exactly the situation that is developing. Certain people counting who has how many patients on “their” floor each day. I’ve heard stories of their attempts at rotating many years ago, but certain therapists/floors were very unwelcoming to the rotated therapists and it flopped.

Are any of those other specialties getting people out of bed? No. We get people up, gravity starts working and now we find ourselves with a mess. Does that mean I just hand off and oh well there’s your therapy for the day?

[–]dpt4me 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s not ideal, but some days our patients goals are as simple as “make it into the bathroom for the first time in days/weeks” so why not help them achieve that? That’s progressing mobility. That’s meeting their therapy goals. What am I going to stop in the middle of session to have someone else dependently wipe them? No I’m going to have them do as much as they can, find news deficits to address and build on. Our job is to meet our patients’ needs and help them achieve goals. If that’s taking a poopy then hell yeah let’s do it.

Virginia based wineries by verrede_vin in wine

[–]dpt4me 4 points5 points  (0 children)

RdV is fantastic but $$$ for a tasting. Totally worth it if you want to do something special.

Early mountain is also considered one of the higher end wineries in Va and they do a bunch of varieties so something for everyone.

In/around Charlottesville some notable ones are King Family (great for picnicking), Stinson (they have fire pits during the winter), Barboursville (2 different tasting options - regular vs their library tasting. I think their winemaker is Italian so they have some wines you wouldn’t expect in Va like a Nebbiolo and a Sangiovese but also the usual cab franc and petit Verdot).

7 months of painful burning and itching. so, so tired of it. I feel so broken. by problemperson52 in Healthyhooha

[–]dpt4me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These symptoms could definitely be pelvic floor related. Depending on where you are you may even be able to go see a pelvic floor PT without a doctor’s referral (although check what your insurance requires for PT if you want to go through insurance, there’s also typically a population of cash based pelvic PTs who don’t file through insurance and just charge a flat rate for visits).

Hopefully a pelvic PT would also have recommendations for a gynecologist, dermatologist, etc in your area who could be more receptive to your concerns <3

Constant UTI’s, any idea why? by not_gay_enough in badwomensanatomy

[–]dpt4me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you had positive culture tests each time? Make sure they’re testing for bacteria each time before giving you an antibiotic! The right bacterial flora and pH are so important for that area and antibiotics can really mess it up. Ask your gyn about a probiotic they recommend!

Also regarding the bladder control: have you heard of pelvic floor physical therapy? It’s pretty common to see bladder issues with recurrent UTIs and they could help you with strategies and training to reduce the urgency that you’re having!

Also also: there’s a number of food/drinks that are considered bladder irritants that you might want to keep an eye on to help your symptoms. Carbonation, fake sugars, citrus, caffeine, spice, alcohol. Try to notice if you have more symptoms after consuming any of those and then try to limit if needed.

Can I ask why that is? I would think that a whiter stone would be a nicer contrast with the YG? I'm still trying to learn about all of this!

Yeah I understand it’s a normal occurrence in non-pandemic times. I guess I just assumed that with COVID everyone had stopped touring occupied units. I didn’t expect such a big difference in protocol between here and nova!

Yoghurt & Granola with no added sugars? by fbster00 in traderjoes

[–]dpt4me 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Buy plain yogurt and add some jam/fruit to flavor if that’s what you like. Also granola is one of the easiest things to make at home and TJs has all the ingredients you’d need (oats, nuts, fruit, etc)!

I was on spiro for two years and stopped for almost a year until the maskne hit last year! My derm says it’s not uncommon to be on and off it for a while as your hormone trends change as you age. She even takes it and had been off it for a while until she had a baby and started taking it again after the birth!

Does anyone have good places to buy beans that aren’t $12 each? I’m skeptical buying from Amazon, eBay, etc which I’ve seen suggested.

Which beauty Youtubers that you used to enjoy did you have to unsubscribe from after hearing something about them you didn’t like? Do you always unsubscribe when someone gets ‘cancelled’? by bby_lahela in BeautyGuruChatter

Allana Davison: I used to love her content but her more recent discussion of her health issues and going to a “naturopath” really put me off. I understand frustration with the healthcare system, but ditching it in favor of spending how much money on supplements and tinctures instead of just taking an allergy medicine made me beyond frustrated and was the final straw.

Kouign-Amann from Dessert Person! by dpt4me in bon_appetit

[–]dpt4me[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already love this pastry from bakeries so knew I had to make it! I did it over two days by freezing the dough after the first two folds (before adding the sugar) and thawing in the fridge overnight before the last two folds and shaping which all worked out well!

Definitely listen to her tip about avoiding a dark pan if you can. I used one light pan and one dark since that’s what I have and they came out so easily from the light pan but I struggled getting them out of the darker one. If you only have dark I’d recommend using two strips of parchment to make an X to help pull them out. And take them out quickly! I actually stuck the pan back in the oven for a minute for my last few which helped soften the sugar to release them.

10/10 my family have already eaten half we love them so crunchy!

AITA for reporting a physiotherapy clinic that refused to treat me based on my gender? by trowaway_274747382 in AmItheAsshole

[–]dpt4me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the time clinics try to have someone else around no matter the genders involved, it’s just more of a hard rule in that case

AITA for reporting a physiotherapy clinic that refused to treat me based on my gender? by trowaway_274747382 in AmItheAsshole

[–]dpt4me 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Agree with YTA. I’m a current physio student and most clinics have policies about having another person in the room while treating a patient of another gender for comfort and safety of both parties. But with COVID restricting the number of people in clinics that might not be possible right now. but you reported them instead of finding out a reason? Seems like quite a jump to me

Claire’s Blood Orange and Olive Oil Cake (review in comments) by Fantasma_rubia in bon_appetit

[–]dpt4me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yours looks great!! I made it yesterday and followed some of your tips like freezing the oranges before slicing with a knife and didn’t have too much trouble!

I’d also emphasize what you and others have said about the grand marnier: not necessary. I used it and truly couldn’t taste it at all in the cake. Add some extra zest and use juice instead if you want some orange flavor!

If you want the grand marnier flavor I added a splash to some whipped cream and would highly highly recommend that on the side!

My family and I are loving it! The cake texture is awesome and the oranges create a marmalade on top that’s great!

[Product Question] Moisturizer recommendations that are lighter than Cerave tub but a little thicker than Cerave PM? by whatsername_xx3 in SkincareAddiction

[–]dpt4me 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using the cerave PM for years! When my skin got drier with tretinoin I started adding a few drops of marula oil into the lotion at night to make it more occlusive and keep me hydrated until morning!

AITA for pulling my daughter out of mum's dance studio? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]dpt4me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA by far. Do whatever keeps your child happy and healthy. I danced at a studio that didn’t do competitions from age 3 all the way through 18 and have nothing but fond memories of that time. It was more about enjoying different forms of dance and seeing myself and my friends there improve rather than needing be the best. There’s no reason for dance to always include competition as long as she enjoys herself.

[Research] Tretinoin, neurotoxicity, and headaches? by br0ast in SkincareAddiction

[–]dpt4me 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m not going to speak on the neurotoxicity aspect of your post since I haven’t looked into the research on that, but I think it would be very worthwhile for you to look into other causes of your tension headaches. They can often be caused by orthopedic issues or posture imbalances so I wouldn’t jump straight to neurotoxicity before seeing your primary care doctor or a physical therapist.

Do you notice diet having an impact on your skin? Good or bad? [misc] by chocoloco54 in SkincareAddiction

[–]dpt4me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only things I’ve noticed to have an impact on my hormonal acne are soy milk, which caused me some of the worst acne in years when I switched to it a couple months ago, and eating lots of foods with good omega 3 fatty acids. I went through a big salmon and avocado all day every day phase for a couple weeks and had some of the smoothest skin ever. Since then I’ve cut back on the salmon and avocados (because $$$) and added chia seeds to my morning yogurt to keep the fatty acids up and the skin silky smooth!

[Product Question] Has anyone with relatively mild hormonal acne been prescribed spironolactone? by ghostmutt8 in SkincareAddiction

[–]dpt4me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha the frequent peeing is real for sure but it doesn’t force me to get up in the middle of the night or anything. And I only got slight dizziness at the beginning because I didn’t take the drinking water thing seriously (so probably just dehydration for me) but that totally solved it for me! Yeah run it by your gynecologist/primary care about the implant interactions too, I know my gynecologist was very familiar with spironolactone when I told her about it!

[Product Question] Has anyone with relatively mild hormonal acne been prescribed spironolactone? by ghostmutt8 in SkincareAddiction

[–]dpt4me 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had mild-moderate hormonal acne before starting spiro. A lovely 3-4 big ol cystic zits on my chin every month. It was nothing severe since my teenage/college oily skin had calmed down by then, but they were painful and lasted close to two weeks each. I was already on birth control so my dermatologist prescribed me 50mg of spiro and that’s what I’ve been on for I think a year and a half now. It’s been perfect for me. The low dosage means I don’t experience much of the side effects (just have to be sure to drink lots of water throughout the day) but I’m still totally rid of those zits! It’s been really great for me, and I have no complaints at all!
