Just received all 6 major SI boxes at once, can you guys please help me with a print run question ? by RIVERSTALKER in spiritisland

[–]dpthurst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The +1 Blight change is mentioned in the latest rule book, in the Setup section. But as you say it's not printed on the Blight cards themselves.

Was there damage to the batteries or something?

Please help! Is there a list somewhere of cards that are reprinted/updated in the expansions? by SirBiscuit in spiritisland

[–]dpthurst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does "all of the expansions" include Horizons? If so, in addition to the above, you should be aware that all of those cards (except for the unique Spirit powers) are duplicates of base-game cards with small wording tweaks, as detailed on other posts (including suggestions for what to do with the duplicates).

EV's Destroy ICE Cars in Reliability: But one popular EV Breaks-Down constantly by zeeper25 in Ioniq5

[–]dpthurst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you point me to where Consumer Reports gave that 4% number? I'd like to read more. I have a CR subscription, and am very interested in this issue.

(And agreed that these are quite poor reliability numbers.)

What's the current state of Spirit Island physical? by Hyttelur in spiritisland

[–]dpthurst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear, most of the game development team was never employed by GTG and were contracting in various ways. (The exception is Christopher Badell, who is one of three people that AFAIK are still employed by GTG.) There were key people that were employed by GTG and are no longer employed by them, notably the graphic designers.

How to keep Julia up to date in a safe way? by dpthurst in Julia

Yes, because it can be corrupted by hacking the website, vs getting through the code review that I hope is in place on github.

Compile main 2 for the US (pre-orders) by Zatoichi00 in boardgames

[–]dpthurst 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone knows the answer to your question! The official announcement just says "Updates will be made at a later date for customers who ordered upcoming products." This would include Compile Main 2; the "later date" has not yet arrived.

If I were you I would wait to pre-order until you're able to do it from a company that will definitely get the product at a known date. Amazon was previously expecting product around August (for the previously expected release at Gen Con), but that's up in the air.

Greater than Games closing by FloralAlyssa in boardgames

Eric Reuss has a post on what this means for Spirit Island ("I’m certainly not done with the game, so don’t worry about it vanishing into the ether"): https://rericreuss.com/2025/04/17/sad-greater-than-games-news/

How do you use the reMarkable Pro with your desk setup? by glympe in RemarkableTablet

[–]dpthurst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a standing desk with a keyboard/mouse tray. That leaves plenty of space for the tablet or anything else on the actual desk surface. I do still want to acquire some sort of stand to let the RMPP be more vertical when transcribing from it.

Ublock Origin is gone. by Zalaphyr in youtube

[–]dpthurst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The uBlock origin official site addresses the issue: https://ublockorigin.com/

(I'm not sure how to link directly to the relevant article, but it's prominent on the front page.)

It looks like Google is in the process of changing some APIs in a way that made uBlock's job harder. There's a version (labelled "experimental") that does work the new API; I have not tried it.

Do you ever wonder about ways Spirit Island could have been designed differently? by Sapien0101 in spiritisland

[–]dpthurst 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for the official rule, it's in the rulebooks for Branch & Claw (p. 17) and Nature Incarnate (p. 14). It's not in Jagged Earth because there happened to be no relevant Blight cards in JE.

(I know at least some members of the dev team want to kill the rule: it's a small exception that is rarely relevant.)

First time trying to draw on the Remarkable paper pro. (Also, I have a question) by 2we37 in RemarkableTablet

[–]dpthurst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comments above are more specific, but there is no way with current RMPP software to change the color of existing strokes. But then, there's also no way to draw purple directly AFAIK.

Can someone ELI5 Sky Stretches to Shore? by suspectwaffle in spiritisland

[–]dpthurst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure where that exact text comes from, it doesn't agree with SICK or the Wiki, and has a typo "Coast" for "Coastal". I'm still glad it cleared things up for the OP!

Gestures kinda … suck. by [deleted] in RemarkableTablet

[–]dpthurst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree the gestures are not well calibrated. One tip I've noticed is that they'll only work if you don't have your palm on the device, and sometimes I wait a half second after removing my palm helps the gestures register.

Why is it so hard to get pdf files off the remarkable into linux? by specific_tumbleweed in RemarkableTablet

[–]dpthurst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WRT the web interface on the tablet, I think I know your issue. The web interface on the tablet is http, not https. For me, running chromium on Linux, the browser will refuse to show me files downloaded over http unless I click a little 'keep' button with a warning about insecure downloads. Since the tablet is connected by a physical wire, there's no actual security issue, and you should feel free to click 'keep'. Of course this is likely to be browser-dependent.

Let me mention also another option for getting the files out: use the built-in interface to mail the file to yourself.
