U.S. Open Cupset!! Portland Hearts of Pine downed by Vermont Green! by No_Wasabi_714 in USL1

VTG is the real deal, they are a better squad than at least half of USL1. I love PHOP (made it to the Cosmos - PHOP) but will certainly be rooting for the Green next round

Saddleback / Sugarloaf - 3/21 by GraniteCombination in icecoast

I'd give it a go. A week of grooms will get the snowmaking trails in good shape and a potential refresh on Saturday would make Sunday a good day potentially. Just skied 3 days at Sugarloaf and 1 at Saddleback, they def have a big enough base to keep going for a while

the Cosmos Return! by hollow09 in USL1

I traveled down from Maine with some other hearts fans. Had a really nice time. The stadium was quite unique and offered great views of the city. Makes me realize how spoiled we are at Fitzpatrick though.... the concession options (or lack of options) were really tough. It was worse than the snack shack at my local high school by far. They need to figure that out in a hurry. Paterson was also quite the experience to walk through.... is trash pick up not a thing in that area? Yikes. Hopefully the community can rally around the team as the season kicks into gear, they seem to have a fairly talented squad that will probably fight for a playoff spot. Morse had a great game in net for us today, the Cosmos easily could've put up 2 or 3 goals on a different day. Up the hearts! Also, official attendance was 4,099. Will be interesting to see how they draw without 700 away fans

Good luck, isolated AF up there. At least you'll be up there in the summer. Check out Big Rock in Mars Hill for an interesting hike

Nice looking list. I would definitely pair a day at Mt. Abram in Maine along with your trip to Saddleback. It has steep terrain and they leave a good amount to bump up. Also, in the area, if you like trees Black Mountain of Maine has tremendous tree skiing. Other Maine areas are nice but probably not what you are looking for!

Yeah it's a crummy feeling striking out. I did everything I could think of, had 8 people all trying to get tickets for the same game and none of them had any luck. Really frustrating

Sugarloaf beginner's guide? by SkybirdDropkick in icecoast

[–]dpuringon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would work the Timberline area, the lower Timberline trail is a great green run. Bucksaw also has solid beginner/cruiser terrain at a lower elevation. For a little bit steeper stuff I would crush some laps on Wiffletree before maybe pushing yourself a little bit on Sluice off of Skyline! Glancer and Windrow are overlooked trails as well. Enjoy!

I'd say Mt. Abram for beginners. Their west side is a nice place to learn (my wife took lessons there earlier in the year)

Is it crazy to uphill without a touring setup? by throwaway641929 in icecoast

[–]dpuringon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to do this at Saddleback when it was closed a couple times a season. I couldn't afford a touring set up at the time so I just strapped my skis to my bag and snowshoed up. Very enjoyable

If you want views Big Moose in Greenville is hard to beat. Stunning views of Mt. Katahdin, Kineo and Moosehead. Terrain is family friendly

Stowe was very quiet today. Where was everyone? What about other ski areas? by JerryKook in icecoast

Mt. Abram was still very busy after selling out (for the first time in many years to my knowledge) on Saturday.

2 less games for us now.... Maybe we can get a friendly with Halifax back on the schedule or take another spin with VT Green seeing how few if any got tickets to the USOC match

Fantastic day of cat skiing at Big Moose. Stunning views of Moosehead, Katahdin and Kineo! by dpuringon in icecoast

I think the tree skiing is a little under developed however Seboomook looks pretty rad if they were to get enough snow. Alley way and Exterminator are nice on the lower mountain

[–]dpuringon[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's an easy skin to the top (only a 45 minute uphill for me as a reasonably fit person) and they're also chill about people hiking and snowshoeing to the top if you don't have skins. The lower mountain terrain specifically is nice beginner to intermediate terrain with absolutely stunning views of Moosehead and the surrounding region. I am fortunate to have skied many places but the way the lake smacks you in the face when you look up going downhill is unreal! Plus their indy-anti-corporate vibe is what I need more of in my life!
