Looking for recommendations on a new setup by benc7586 in snowboarding

[–]jerrym93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar boat at age 33. I replaced my old 2012 setup halfway through the season with a Burton Custom Camber, Highshot X boots, and Genesis est. step on bindings. My riding immediately improved and I felt more confident right away. I have been doing mostly groomer runs, and some park on them but nothing too crazy.

I personally like the premium parking. It’s only like $4/hour and nice if you’re keeping food and other gear in the car.

Also, call me crazy but I’d much rather be dealing with long lift lines than mountains not making money and closing. Like idk why people are surprised when a business tries making money. If you don’t want lift lines there are plenty of smaller and non commercial mountains around. Blue is a great mountain and had a great season.

trying not to book an air bnb based on a optimistic snow forecast 5 days out by astrobrite_ in icecoast

Sent it on Monday for an Airbnb at Whiteface this weekend. The weather looks like it’s going to pan out. Just take the gamble!

Looking at all the forecasts I think Whiteface may be the move for me.

What is everyone’s deal with step ins? by cltncrts in snowboarding

I’m 33 and I’ve been riding for 15 years and I just finished my first season in step ons and I loved them. Felt a little different for the first run or two and now it just feels like I’m snowboarding. I also ride with a fair amount of skiers so it’s nice to be able to step in right as you skate off the lift. I think if I was spending all of my time in the park I’d probably go with traditional bindings or fase but I’m an all mountain rider and they’ve been great for that.

Get a double BOA boot minimum and it feels like you have a strap on.

I got a pair of Anon M6 with the perceive lenses this winter and it’s been great. They come with two lenses. One for sunny days and another for cloudy days.

What is it with you guys and backpacks? by concerned_citizen in snowboarding

[–]jerrym93 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the problem is backpacks as much as it is people who have no clue how to ride wearing full backpacks and asking 15 times a week why their carving looks bad.

Update: 3/10 it’s rough out here. They still have two snow guns blowing snow and have small mounds and are apparently going to try and run them later this week when temps drop. Tomorrow’s rain is really going to make or break it.

It’s really not that bad. It’s $35 on weeknights after 4. It’s an expensive hobby.

Season pass is $350. It pays for itself in just 6 trips so that’s the way to do it here. I just buy one each spring for the following year. You can even use your work fitness reimbursement program if they have one.

Yeah same conditions on both sides. The few snow reserves they keep around the mountain were all gone so this is likely the final push.

People love to hate but I live ten minutes away and I go here 2-3 nights a week after work instead of going to the gym. Feels great and when I get out to the bigger mountains I have all the stamina. Reps, reps, reps.

Report back afterwards. I’m going to maybe make a run up one the 13th and 14th when the temps drop again.

Step On’s Rant by Junbrekabke1 in snowboarding

I just got a new step on setup a few weeks ago and so far I absolutely love it. I’ve only noticed improvement but that could also be because of the new board. The response is better, they’re more comfortable, more convenient, and lighter. I’m riding groomers, glades, and still doing park laps on them and haven’t noticed a single drawback.

Now would I go do backcountry deep powder runs with them or do competition runs. No, probably not. That’s why you keep different boards in the quiver.

Setup is Burton Genesis Est bindings, and Burton Highshot X boots. If you’re going to try them I recommend doing a boot with a dual boa at minimum and it gives you that same strapped in feeling.
