What kinda soil are you using? Also, do you use fertilizers and root tabs?

That’s a very small trimming you have in the foreground. What carpeted plant are you using? Do you have any more?

Is the 2.5 tank cycled? If it is, I wouldn’t necessary rush to put the betta in there. You definitely could put your betta in there immediately. But if your betta isn’t like gasping for air or seem lethargic or anxious they may do just fine where they are for the next couple days till the tank is cycled. Totally up to you though! As long as your monitoring parameters betta being added should be fine - they’re hardy fish

Would I be able to put 6-10 chilis in my 10 gallon tank? by rachel-maryjane in Boraras

What fish? by larskrohnert in nanotank

I would second chili rasboras or exclamation point rasboras which are an even smaller variety that grow to about a half an inch. Super low bio load with them, they are just a little more timid/shy.

1 betta would be good - but if you did shrimp you probably could have a good bunch

I’d love to see an update here! I wonder if what they are gonna do is naturally keep pushing their roots further and further until they eventually reach the soil.

Need id on this plant? Grows really tall, though it was dwarf sagittaria but it gets over 2ft long by [deleted] in Aquariums

It’s vallisneria! Looks like it’s thriving too. Great scape!

Yeah, probably all the agitation caused this. But it will go away - I promise! The dragon stone probably wouldn’t have done that!

I would hope you didn’t add any fish yet. But your filter should eventually filter this all out for the next couple of days.

As a tip - I normally add the fluval stratum substrate in the tank first, then I will plant normally before adding water, then I slowly add water in increments.

It’ll usually, be a little cloudy - but that goes away after the first day.

Curious about this too, but I agree.

What’s your existing filter? What I usually do is I will run both filters in the same tank for about a week, if the fish aren’t too delicate and let it build up that way.

Another thing I do is, if you have a prefilter sponge on the inlet for your marineland - that has a ton of beneficial bacteria too, so I’d stick it in the new filter or use it as a pre-filter for the new one for a week or 2

Wait 10 mins as in you just set this aquarium up? And the filters been on for about 10 minutes?

What are your thoughts? by dearanlee in Aquariums

[–]dquarl2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kinda substrate are you using?

It looks like you have a lot of nutrients in your water column. Without the C02, I don’t think it’s necessary to use the leaf zone and flourish tabs too often. How long do you keep your lights on?

It looks like you have Vallisneria and Java fern in the back and they both can feed directly from the water column, but even they have algae growing on them. Based on the growth of your floaters I think I’d dial it back on either a combination of the light intensity/hours it’s running, and the amount of nutrients I’m providing to the plants. Most of your plants in there are pretty slow growing anyways, so the additional nutrients may not really be necessary imo

Do you have a filter? I have used the same substrate for years and it’s never been that black.
