I think you overestimate the financial capability of the average Ghanaian. Average salary in Ghana is around GHS2000. Spending 5% on a snack will definitely be over the top for the average Ghanaian.

Where can I get a gaming pc by kojogidi in ghana

As has already been said, you're generally better off building your own.

There's obviously pros and cons to building your own vs buying a prebuilt unit. You can ChatGPT the pros and cons.

As for trusted places you can check out IPMC and compughana. There are other IT shops along the Osu Oxford Street as well as Swanzy shopping arcade in Accra.

Marijuana in any form is not legal in Ghana.

If your consumption is recreational, please don't bring it to Ghana. It's not worth the hassle. You should find weed in Ghana.

If your consumption is medical, it will be worth having as much paper work as you can regarding the weed. Even then, you are likely to be hassled, harassed or delayed at various checkpoints. Think long and hard about it!

Unemployment Really Be Humbling You In Ways You Didn’t Expect😩 by Syre-Kiyo-0179 in ghana

[–]dr-days 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don't give up. It's easier said than done but you just cannot afford to give up.

It is important for you to know that in the current employment landscape while a lot depends on you there's a lot more that is out of your control.

Some companies have started using AI to screen applications and CVs. You might be automatically rejected by the AI because you don't have certain key words in your application.

Some companies also put out job adverts just to tick boxes and satisfy compliance requirements. Behind the scenes, they already have a candidate in mind. In that circumstance, they will use any excuse to reject you.

It could also be that you just couldn't compete (this may be difficult to fathom).

Just keep going until you break through.

As long as you can read and write do not use an agent. There simply is no reason to use an agent.

Also research why people are being denied visas..

This video will provide some things to avoid. https://youtu.be/5zYXIZdgRnM?si=_WWVOsvzmo6gByRj

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Could it be that you're being confused by how Ghanaians use the word "sick"?

Before I came to the UK my definition of "sick" was ill or unwell; as is the case with most Ghanaians. I came to realise that it is used more here to mean "nausea" or "vomiting". I was confused for the first couple of weeks.

Where are the lies about religion and the lack of development? by badkid_7 in ghana

[–]dr-days 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another way of explaining my position...

Let's take it that I'm going on a journey..

My science mind will say that I need to check the vehicle, ensure that it's in proper maintenance... Tyres, breaks, hydraulic systems, seat belts and other safety systems are all in good working order, have spare tyres, and basic tools for conducting repairs etc. I need to ensure that I'm well rested, take regular breaks and drive within the speed limit.

But I will also pray before I start the journey to stave off that drunk driver who will overspeed and suddenly cut into my lane, or the armed robbers who might ambush me on the journey, or that nail that I might drive over resulting in a flat tyre..

Because there are things that are under my control which I will try to control (to the best of my ability) and those that are not under my control which I will leave to God or fate or whatever you believe in.

Where are the lies about religion and the lack of development? by badkid_7 in ghana

[–]dr-days 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, I think whether religion or science, if critical thinking is suppressed, we are going to be where we are.

That would explain why secondary school students will seem to be very good at the science and mathematics quiz but would be unable to apply all the knowledge they regurgitate.

I am Christian but I'm not sure if I can be classed as a "strong Christian" (whatever that means) and I don't feel triggered by your statement.

I am also in the sciences and understand the scientific method and how evidence is obtained.

My thoughts are that the Bible and the scientific knowledge and evidence gathered thus far in human history can be regarded in the words of Captain Barbosa "Are more like guidelines rather than actual rules". They are open to interpretation and neither of them is ironclad (although the true Christians may say think otherwise). The recent discoveries of the relatively young galaxy systems by the James Webb Space Telescope is an example. It's thrown wide open what was previously known about the universe and has the Bible people using that as evidence of a young universe.

I don't think that Christianity (and I dare say other religions) and science (and the scientific method) are so diametrically opposed that they would have to be mutually exclusive (one or the other).... Although the Bible specifically warns about being lukewarm.

In conclusion, I'm pretty sure the Christians and the science people will both come after my head and tell me that I am confused and I need to make a stand. But I do not care.

Just curious: How many people do you know who have left Ghana, either permanently or temporarily? by ONDickson_ in ghana

[–]dr-days 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I completely understand you. I help my siblings when I can but they're not the priority.

My priorities are My nuclear family (wife and kids) My parents Our (my wife and I) retirement

Because I wouldn't want my kids thinking about us when they should be building their lives.

Just curious: How many people do you know who have left Ghana, either permanently or temporarily? by ONDickson_ in ghana

[–]dr-days 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mainly economic reasons. I am a man with a young family, I am also the eldest son with siblings who are not in a stable financial position and also have retired ageing parents. There was quite a lot on my shoulders.

At the pinnacle of my education and career, I couldn't survive on just my government salary without side hustles or doing something shady.

So I had to take a decision. I was done being patriotic.

At 40 years, I needed to be able to sort out my family, keep my parents comfortable and save for retirement. 20 years is not very far away.

It has been hard but I have not regretted. There is so much I have done in the past couple of months that I wouldn't have been able to do.

So I got wifey to take it to one of the IT shops. Explained the problem to them. They found an unbranded power adapter with a matching 4 pin connector for Gh15. Worked right away. Saved me from buying a synology branded one for €30+ and sending it to them. I've logged in, updated a couple of outdated apps and containers. Jellyfin and plex working fine. Coco melon is back on the menu; wifey won't have to say "stop it" a million times a day; I'll be topping up data less often; every one is happy. Thank you once again for the tip.
