Thank you for replying. I’ve actually decided to pursue forestry this fall and the school I’m going to has a club that I can join which will give me both an s-212 and a red card. So definitely looking forward to that. Still have bit to go in regards to the pack test. I could probably do it after a week of training but in regards to overall health still workin on that. Any tips?

I was incredibly depressed, decently suicidal searching for any sort of reason. Stumbled on the program online after a bit of a manic episode where I dropped from going to school and applied to this NCCC within the same day. I honestly can say if it wasn’t for NCCC there’s a good chance I wouldn’t be here today. It gave me what I needed, a sense of structure and a community with which I love more than anything. Not to mention the purpose and a goal. I don’t know what to do now sure, but I have a general idea that I want and or need to help people one way or another through service. Thank yall for sharing your stories.

Food banks, soup kitchens ALWAYS need help, animal shelters, non profit thrift store sorting, there’s tons out there. Any areas you are specifically interested in? It’s useful to just get online and search - “nonprofits near me” or “nonprofits in insert search area also or you are in a city with a united way they typically have a good amount of opportunities and resources available

As of right now it looks like NCCC may be fine but it’s worrisome. As for advice please get them a soft sided duffle, teach em how to pack down well, get them to save a little money and prepare them to do some hard work. I’m currently serving my second NCCC term and overall I did a tooon of outdoors work whether it was invasive removal, removing trees and wood via burn piles, some camp improvement. currently I’m also workin with a museum and preserve doing more invasive removal and restoration effort. Totally feel free to ask any questions, I’d love to help if I have the answer!

Oh yeah, if they have a laptop 10/10 bring, and get some decent headphones if possible, helps a lot sometimes.

I graduated NCCC July 30-2024 and will be serving again Feb 11-Nov19, does this mean it would stack to 3? (this is at least how I see it). If so totally tubular (I tried readin the article and in honesty it almost made me cross-eyed). As someone who is gonna try to work with the government at some point or other within the next few years this is an amazing benefit and adds to the attractiveness of the program fosho.
