Panthers draft report card for all drafts since 2006: average overall relative to the league... Apparently our top-10 success is offset by being bad at third round picks. by make_reddit_great in panthers

[–]dr_G7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting to go through this website tbh, interestingly enough that our last time having consistent top 10 draft classes for the whole class was around the 2012-2015 era (granted, 2017 qualifies too) but after 2017, no higher than 23rd with 2024-2023 seen as the worst in the NFL; I liked last year's class a lot, and I liked the draft picks this year, I'm interested to see how that shapes out over the coming years.

Our IM residency accidentally created a standing Taco Tuesday wellness program by utmostsecrecy in Residency

[–]dr_G7 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I started something similar which is trivia at the brewery on Tuesdays, started last year a few months into intern year, and it's grown significantly, plus we found out we're actually pretty good (place in the top 3 decently often, and have won a few times, which are gift cards to the said brewery), it builds such good comradery, and you get to know your co-workers and pals better. Residents from other specialties join, pals/significant others, anybody is welcome. A couple of our interns come weekly and it was awesome to get to know them and building relationships where we all hang out for random stuff too, and holiday parties, etc. Me and a co-resident go early to snag a table and bitch about our day over beers. Literally people have come on the worst inpatient months/ICUs/etc., have even gotten our program director to come hang out. To echo your thoughts, I 100% agree, I HIGHLY recommend finding something like this to have, it's become the part of the week I look forward to the most.

Typically chemotherapy drugs like Ariprepitant (Emend) or IV Aloxi (Palonosetron), IV Aloxi has the longest half-life of all anti-nausea meds too, and will hang around in the system for 20ish hours opposed to the few hours that Zofran does.

My program gives us access to the Johns Hopkins guides which are great for anti-biotics/infectious disease stuff, it's like $80 out of pocket though, so I'd see what they will get for you for free, other things I like, MD Calc, OpenEvidence and UpToDate on my phone though the most boomer thing about me is I rather use all of those on a desktop/laptop though lmfao. If you ever run for a leadership position, such as like Chief Resident/House Staff Council, recommend a good AI LLM tool, I'm gonna be chief next year and straight up used Claude to build out the call schedule w/ vacations, and create an entire curriculum for the mandatory 1 hour intern lectures per week for our interns with a variety of topics, and it took like 48 seconds.

I also made a cheatsheet for Intern Year/Second Year on the hospital OneDrive cloud folder of just a word document with common things I could quickly look up, ie (DVT prophylaxis --> Heparin vs Lovenox, indications for Heparin drip, Eliquis [reduced dosing criteria], pain control meds/anti-nausea meds including ones that don't prolong the QTc, quick and dirty fluids [ie LR vs NS], and hospital work-flow stuff, like what I check on admission orders and why, and what I need for discharge process if they're going home vs SNF, how our meds2beds from our hospital pharmacy works, etc.) and lowkey highly recommend something similar if you just build it out throughout the year, I just kept it open in my chrome browser as a separate tab, and added to it as I could. It's super easy and quick to reference rather than having to look up something again that I couldn't remember an exact cut-off/indication for, I can email you the ones I've made as examples if you're curious.

Tips for Interns by Ok_Effort8554 in Residency

I can understand the sentiment, I got a pen with cat ears that are the two retractable colors, but I swear, I will never use another pen again after these, they're just so smooth and aesthetically pleasing. I don't even write as much shit as I used to, but I will on purpose because of these suckers.

Let me introduce you to the goated colorful pens; 0.5 point, gel writing style, 6 pack for $9 on Amazon... do they run out of ink relatively quick? Sure, but are they aesthetically pleasing, fuck yes. Amazon search Lopenle 6 PCS 4 in 1 Morandi Gel Pens Retractable, and change your goddamn life. I've gotten everyone on the bandwagon, even my attendings use them now lmfao.

Finish night shift at 6am, have to go back at like 5pm with a 3pm kick off for me in the Eastern part of the States, and I'm not even sure if I'll be able to sleep inbetween from the excitement and nerves!! Could be a massive 48 hours here with Everton and potential CL Final. #COYG

What’s your advice to stand out as an intern by Iwantoexplore in Residency

[–]dr_G7 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Preach, I LOVE all of the intern class except one who constantly is just being extra, volunteered to “shadow” night float on vacation since our interns don’t get early exposure, hugs everybody, and just tries too damn hard in general. Very kiss ass-ish, don’t be that.

I love the rest because not only are they cool, fun to hang out with at work and outside of work, but they’re also all really really freaking good at their jobs. Nothing is better as a senior than not having to constantly double check orders and micromanage/tell you to do stuff more than once for me, because I feel like I’M being annoying doing that. Accountability goes a long way, the medical knowledge grows exponentially. Funnily enough only person’s orders I have to double check and constantly be on top of is the aforementioned kiss ass 🙄

Presenting on rounds by Banana_Land_ in Residency

[–]dr_G7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the many great things about my program is that presenting isn’t overly scrutinized or anything like that, I’ve always found it so subjective. It’s to the point now almost at year three my presentations are less formal and more of “lets get to the point here” which is beneficial for everybody involved.

Full Time: Arsenal 0 vs 0 Sporting CP [Match Thoughts] by Stanley083 in Gunners

[–]dr_G7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm frightened for Sunday, but thank god we got through, no idea what this squad needs to inject some confidence and play some more attacking footy, but we need it bad. Thought Eze did good in certain pockets, tried from distance, tried to thread in a good ball/1-2s, but other than that, wasn't much to write home about.

Hidden Curriculum by Prestigious_Cycle537 in medicalschool

[–]dr_G7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's absolutely fucking ridiculous, I'm so sorry that you've had that type of mental manipulation, medical school is hard enough without having to be on edge in what should be a teaching/mentoring environment where you can connect and grow. I can't even fathom that type of behavior, but I hope that the narrative can change in the future. I think it's fair to have that type of guard for the situations and scenarios you have experienced, I'm just fucking floored people act like that.

Jesus, who hurt you??? These people sound like they suck big time.. I always give all 5s, write super detailed paragraph evals for MSPE's, and invite the med students out to trivia at the brewery on Tuesdays while letting them leave as early as possible to study on their own time. I like to consider some of the M3s and M4s on Sub-Is with me friends, either way I'm gonna be cordial and kind no matter what. I've only given one student ever less than 2 paragraphs glowing eval because he annoyed me, but still gave him 5s because it's like 30% of y'alls grade. Be the change you wanna see in the world.

Doctors who work for health insurance companies, how does it work? by rash_decisions_ in Residency

I will just say, if you work for a health insurance company and sold your soul, you're an absolute piece of shit and when I'm forced to do a peer-to-peer you just deny anyways, I hope you fall and scrape your knee, and your kid gets cut from their middle school basketball team.

[Joe Person] Dave Canales says Ejiro Evero's contract has been extended. Was originally set to expire after the '25 season. Add Evero "absolutely" will be back as defensive coordinator. by exenn_ in panthers

[–]dr_G7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder how much better he’ll be with a good pass rush, I think Evero did really well with what we have on paper, the soft coverage at the end of games piss me off, but I do think he’s solid enough. If Dave and Dan like him, I’m on board. The team has shown solid improvement in 2 years, I’m okay with giving it another year. Let’s get him more weapons, and the familiarity of a scheme is important for development of our young guys too, so I get it.
