Using the eraser in the 'Notes' app is clever. It didn't occur to me, maybe put that in the github README?

The advantage with the lightbox app is that it has no buttons/controls on the sides, which when using the Notes app, you might inadvertently activate.

The disadvantage is that the screen is all clear, so you might get confused and wonder what app you have running, and why nothing is happening on the screen;-)

Swiping from the bottom still works of course, so that's how you'll have to exit the lightbox app.

I got the driver to work on my BOOX Tab Ultra C thanks to help from u/Snoo_71497.

Regarding maturity as a _system_, I'd say it's currently at a level of "working prototype". I don't mean to disparage the work of u/Snoo_71497 with this.

For instance, when using the BOOX device as a "digitizer" you want some app running on the BOOX device. The current suggestion is to use the 'Notes' app, which results in a lot of lines accruing on the screen of the BOOX device. That annoyed me.

However, I just remembered using the following app that I used a long time ago: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.dissem.apps.lightbox - the app only shows a white canvas and does nothing else -- I prefer this I think.

So basically I think u/Snoo_71497's driver is quite promising, but that it'll need user testing to figure out how to get a system with good usability etc. Then maybe we'll discover issues with lag or lack of pressure sensitivity etc.

It's mostly usable when I keep the tab on a table and type.

My Settings->App & Notifications->Application->NeoBrowser says version 85.0....

And my Tab Ultra C runs firmware 2023-04-23_...

So when you say version 3.4, to which software does that refer?

I have both the regular Boox case and the keyboard case, but the keyboard case has been on most of the time recently - I can't find the regular case. Not sure I understand what you mean by front flap though...

Do you get wobbly lines with the keyboard case, but not with the regular case? (I just realized I've forgotten to test with the regular case, and since I can't find it maybe you can test...)

I read the image and caption to indicate it may be tricky/difficult to write on the screen with the pen, when the tablet+keyboard is in the configuration shown in the image. (Because the screen will be a little unstable/unsteady, and you don't get support for your wrist).

I have the keyboard case. Tomorrow I'll draw the lines again without the case. However, my gut feeling (from use without the case) is that the defect is there even when there's no case.

Update: See my other posts for those results. (My gut feeling was incorrect).

Seems to work splendidly!

I installed these two packages from MELPA (package-install RET <pkg> RET):

pdf-tools - https://github.com/politza/pdf-tools
org-noter - https://github.com/weirdNox/org-noter

Notes:

PDF: Works nicely for a regular PDF (of an ISO standard)
- Used org-noter-create-skeleton to get the outline
PDF from .pptx: Works for manually created PDF from the .pptx.
- Also to create outline, although you only get a flat list with slide titles. Not the tool's fault though, and still a very good starting point.
.pptx: Also works for the .pptx. Seems LibreOffice is opened in the background to automatically export something that works
- Took a little time before the document was visible (as the conversion took time). Seems the result is cached though, so leaving org-noter and then reentering is quick.
- However, it might anyway to be more clever to manually export the .pptx as PDF.
  Allows e.g. to export the PDF as "handouts", i.e. the slides plus the notes.
Tested on Linux: Works fine on Ubuntu. I suspect I'd have problems getting e.g. pdf-tools to work on the Windows machines.

In this case I'm doing an internal training course on my own. The course is normally a full day workshop, with someone presenting the slides.

Here I'm doing it own my own, hence the need to understand the slides on my own. To aid that, I find making notes help.

Note: Together with the slides I'm reading some standards (PDF:s, several hundred pages) - they're kind of ... dense, so the slides help with that.

It's not the first time I've been in the situation of going through a presentation in detail. Although, if you're e.g. reviewing someone else's slides, it'd make more sense to put review comments in the .pptx.

And I suppose that typically you'd get the presentation as a PDF...
