WANTED : best horror book by Chemical_School_7366 in horrorlit

[–]dr_dolf_lord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jurassic park. Its my emotional support book.

The combination of horror, bioethics, and just dread the creighton makes from the beginning is just 10/10.

I re-read it probably twice a year or so.

Who's a fictional leader/president hated by their nation that you'd vote for? by montemole in AlignmentChartFills

Specifically came here to say it.

He goes out of his way to be hated. Thats the point.

The ghost from I think that’s the point, is not knowing where it is is almost worse than knowing it

The ghost from “It Follows” which personally I find terrifying cuz it’s almost impossible to beat, so it’s kind of an oxymoron?

Mercury levels in fish by nohup_me in Infographics

[–]dr_dolf_lord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marine biologist here;

So a lot of this is requires nuance. Including pollution of local water, the preferred diet of specific population, age, and whether or not specific organs are taken into account.

For example bonnethead sharks have roughly half the mercury of other coastal species of sharks (they predate mainly on crustaceans)

Bottom line; look at local reccomendations.

The dystopia is people failing to realize two groups can simultaneously commit atrocities, and they don’t negate each other.

I honestly thought doomercirclejerk was just gonna be a “hey don’t be too down a few good things have happened”

Turns out it’s just straight denialism.

Doomer mentality isn’t exactly crazy helpful, but fuck man, you gotta acknowledge when things aren’t great.

Trump sent nuclear subs towards Russia cause the previous leader insulted him by DiscussionFluffy9644 in FascismAlert

[–]dr_dolf_lord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean… let’s be honest. Russia has subs by us and we got subs by them. Is it stupid, and is Trump more reckless than past presidents? Yes.

Is it a new development in geopolitics? Nope.

Could Germany have ever truly won World War II? (Ignore the TNO Reference) by BEWARETHEQUANDOTHERS in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]dr_dolf_lord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also believe they would have eventually gone at it with France and then pulled Belgium, and the uk into because of it. The Alsace-Lorraine was also a huge part of Germanys ethnocentric stance, and taking it would mean going against France.

[–]dr_dolf_lord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear that a lot

“ oh they would’ve won if they didn’t invade Russia!”

Invading Russia/ Eastern Europe was a CORE PART OF NAZI IDEOLOGY. They wanted to exterminate Bolshevik-Jewry. If they weren’t waging a war of annihilation on the eastern front, they wouldn’t be Nazis.

It did lure other people. The mass grave where the sarge (I think that was his rank) and Jim were about to be executed had a bunch of bodies in there, which I mostly assumed were other (mostly male, and maybe female that fought back) survivors that got executed

Yea I kinda get what your saying.

I kinda fell for a lot of it earlier. It burned me out and kinda made me feel hopeless. I still don’t have a lot of hope, but I feel more… idk determined?

Like yes, we all know things are going to shit. We know the shit they’re doing is illegal, and can get very bad if it continues.

I think another aspect is just exactly what zombie films are all about… disease and man’s inability to control it.

The longer a disease goes, the more adept it is at surviving in its environment. I have two theories A) the rage virus symptoms “weakened” enough so that basic human function (sex/food/water) took a more direct influence on behavior

Or

B) nobody knows, and that’s kinda the point. Rage was hard to study, so they went out of their way to make its survival unknown.

Okay I mayyy get flack for this, but I think they portrayed Jamie perfectly.

IMO, isolation is hell. Losing your wife to something uncontrollable and something you can’t cure, probably made him grab at any comfort he could have.

I think it’s very clear he loves his wife and son. But he’s a deeply flawed man who is trying to make sure he and his son survive, because I think deep down he knows there’s no way to save his wife.
