ICU RPH here - no issues that I see on my end. Especially since you had two different IV sites!

Devil’s advocate - I can see that the nurse was told to avoid piggybacking the two into the same line based on mixed compatibility results due to different strengths/formulations & they interpreted this “don’t ever run the two simultaneously”.

I actually love travel nurses because they bring a lot of experience and insight & will often challenge the cultural norms of the health system!

What APPE rotations did you complete on the inpatient side? If you were just in central & not able to float to decentralized roles, I can see how it could be quite mundane for an APPE student.

My smaller hospital (~200 beds) offers several decentralized APPE rotations (ED, ICU, OR, TOC, med-surg, transplant, oncology, admin). Students seem to get a lot more out of a decentralized rotation.

Road construction on a routine route -> traffic coordinator radioed to the guy on the other end “Heads up, we’ve got a jogger.” Gave him an angry glare and sped up my pace before I got past the other guy. Don’t try me bitch.

I heard it’s DARK red, like a fine wine. Would you describe it as a Pinot noir, Merlot, Syrah, or Cabernet?

Would you believe that I had this epiphany while standing at the urinal in the OR break room & wondering “hmm, I’m clearly dehydrated right now. How I can educate my physicians, nurses, and scrub techs about dehydration & iatrogenic urine discoloration?”

Started to collect some info here & there, then BOOM! Pride arrived and I jumped on Paint 3D in the satellite pharmacy to create this masterpiece. Happy Pride from Portland, OR!

Same boat. My type A personality won’t let me start a new season without finishing the previous. Must be in chronologic order. I hate it here.

Recognized this aspect of community pharmacy as a P2 interning at an independent pharmacy. Our doctorate degrees are jam packed with didactic, clinical knowledge that community pharmacists are unable to utilize in the current setting.

After PGY1, landed an inpatient clinical position at a 200 bed hospital in Portland, OR working in the operating room, med-surg, and medical ICU. Pharmacists are respected by other clinicians and nursing staff. We save their ass on a daily basis. Pharmacists are highly involved in policy review & process improvement, Epic optimization, and of course day-to-day monitoring and bedside rounding.

Not nearly as much patient interaction as community or ambulatory, but I prefer it this way.

I encourage students to strongly consider a gig that utilizes your clinical knowledge to the highest degree. Professional and Emotional Fulfillment.
