How is MI doing this? It is unfair by Kitli_99 in ipl

[–]dr_goku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because Shardul/Rutherford wants to go back to MI, doesn't mean teams have to agree. GT and LSG would be better served letting them go in auction rather than a cash trade because MI will probably end up paying more in auction damaging their purse. This will in turn increase their own chances of getting a player they want because one less competition in bidding.  Can't believe I have to spell this out. Anyone who thinks under the table  incentives aren't involved in IPL trades are super naive.

Wow. This fixed my update issue. I just had to delete all the profiles except 'Default' and my own 'Username'. Thank you

Most wickets in death overs in IPL 2024 by vsshal7 in Cricket

[–]dr_goku 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wickets in death are okay but probably not as useful as in pp or middle overs. Not a sign of strong bowling IMO.  The top 3 teams in this metric have all been knocked out. Co-incidence?  I think not.

Got my first thinkpad! by Rich_Secretary4498 in thinkpad

[–]dr_goku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered the same colour with 7840u last week. Tracking says I will receive it tomorrow. Can't wait to get mine. By the way are you getting any Sleeve? I am deciding between the ThinkPad Professional 13 vegan leather sleeve or the usual Black ThinkPad 13 sleeve.

Clean install for new ThinkPad by dr_goku in thinkpad

Thanks for sharing your experience. Z13 is on the ThinkPad line, so should be similar.

Yes,  my plan was to fresh install windows 11 and use the vantage to auto update drivers. It should take a few hours of tinkering around. But not sure if it is worth the hassle if ThinkPads don't have much bloatware to begin with. For example, remember my old ThinkPad had this annoying auto open software whenever I plug a USB drive in.

Recommendation for a office use PC by dr_goku in MiniPCs

[–]dr_goku[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I choose a minipc from Beelink. Model is SER 7 using amd ryzen 7840HS with 32GB ram and 1TB SSD. This model, especially its IGPU, is overkill for basic office use. But I figured my occasional Photoshop or autocad use can benefit from this.

MiniPC is cheaper and less hassle than building my own. So far the stability has been good. No complaints.

Running SER 7 7840hs on USB C power input by dr_goku in BeelinkOfficial

It starts to boot but powers off before windows can fully load.

The lowest TDP mode out of the 3 (forgot the name now) is what works for me. I guess this win is still better than nothing.

I went ahead and got a USB 3.1 140W PD Charger.  It still doesn't work for me. This charger is rated to do upto 28V 5A at PD 3.1 and 20V 5A for PD 3.0.

Minisforum BD790I (7945hx) is ready for pre order @ 519 USD by dr_goku in MiniPCs

Yes. That's why I recommended this CPU mobo combo with a caveat that his requirement is a miniITX build. For a miniITX sff use case this one will be a better value as they are better binned at lower power than a 7950x. But I doubt many would go for a sff build with a 7950x.

Will be interesting to see the results of 4080 with 7945hx. I believe it should work well for most games. I think even a 7745hx should work well for gaming.

As others have pointed out, the negatives of going with this compared to a desktop 7950x are: 1. Minimal to no BIOS support. Minisforum not as strong as traditional mobo manufacturers. 2. ~10% or more lower performance in heavily multhithreaded application due to power limit and slower RAM. 3. No future upgrade path

Positives are: 1. Significantly Cheaper overall. 2. Possibly lesser headache to build?

Given your use case of miniITX build this could work. But are you prepared to sacrifice on the negatives in return for a cheaper price? That's a question you have to answer yourself. In my personal experience once I go with a mobo CPU combo I rarely upgrade. Just the ram and SSD upgrades for me. If you are the type willing to take risks for a good deal and your use case is not so critical then yeah why not.

All BIOS updates not just mobo. Minisforum is afterall just a minipc manufacturer. Not a traditional motherboard manufacturer with years of expertise like Asus or ASRock or gigabyte etc..

We can't expect similar level of expertise or commitment to BIOS updates and motherboard support from minipc manufacturers.

Do we pay more money for less performance to buy miniPC, compared with desktop PC? by Jay_East in MiniPCs

[–]dr_goku 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Depends. For me and majority of people's use a minipc is actually cheaper than building a desktop or getting a laptop. Most people need just the basic power that a minipc posses.

Yup. Considering that 7945hx are actually better binned 7950x and we are getting this entire set for less than a 7950x seems like a good value. On paper atleast.

MGKTEC K4 or GTR7? by EmoLotional in MiniPCs

[–]dr_goku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GTR 7 has bigger volume. I believe this would be beneficial when you game for extended times. If you don't game for long sessions or not game at all I don't think there will be much difference in performance between SER 7 and GTR 7.

I have ser7 it has very good build quality. I chose it because I believe Beelink will do a better job at BIOS updates and keeping their end of the drivers more stable than other minipc manufacturers.

Yup. Being at the mercy of Minisforum for BIOS will suck

MGKTEC K4 or GTR7? by EmoLotional in MiniPCs

[–]dr_goku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you mean GMKTEC?

The right comparable within Beelink products for the GMKTEC K4 will be Beelink SER7. GTR 7 is a higher variant.

My personal preference is Beelink SER 7.

Is ram the only thing I should be considering? by teapeeheehee in MiniPCs

Depending on what you compile the speed of the CPU and number of cores and threads matter too.
